: Challenger?
kokanee13 09-19-2008, 04:19 PM Ok guys I have a brand new 08 GC SRT8.....My buddy at work has a 08 SRT8 Challenger. He's got a K&N cold air filter, but that's about it. I have 400km on mine, he has 5000. One other friend has a new Infinity G-38. Who is going to win this race? O-60, quarter mile, and first to 100mph and back to 0. We have a runway at work to play with, so we have 2 and a half miles to play with!!! Anyway I'm going to lose my 300 bucks??
Grip Grip 09-19-2008, 04:25 PM I think you'll win against the Challenger to 60MPH, 100MPH, and the 1/4 mile. I don't know anything about the G38. I didn't even know they were out yet.
YoungMedic23 09-19-2008, 04:31 PM the challenger will whoop u on the quarter on the top end. My jeep had cai, exhaust, and tune and my dads 300 srt8 still passes it up around 80
U will lose the the quarter to the challenger.
You will win everything else
G35/37/38? is no competition
aplatero1984 09-19-2008, 04:41 PM ^+1 I agree! but from a dig the Jeeps are just so nasty!:D
grocery gtr 09-19-2008, 04:50 PM Go For It Anyways.....
Grip Grip 09-19-2008, 04:57 PM I thought I read somewhere that the automatic Challenger was a dog in the 1/4, and had an ET of 13.6-13.8?
Grip Grip 09-19-2008, 05:08 PM Edmunds claims the '09 manual is slower than the '08 auto, unless I'm not reading this right:
"The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its 425-hp 6.1-liter V8 and six-speed manual transmission accelerated to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds (5.2 seconds with 1 foot of rollout), then reached the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds at 103.0 mph.
This compares to the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its five-speed automatic that achieved 60 mph in 5.1 seconds (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout) and completed the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds at 107.5 mph. "

Dr.Steve 09-19-2008, 05:10 PM sweet stats anthony, I think this guy'd be safe, run 'em both, and paypal anthony 300 of the loot!
cobrakid 09-19-2008, 05:38 PM ...pull your ABS fuse, front scoop mod, 180* stat, auto stick it and let it shift itself, flat punch it from a dead stop,
and you will whoop the Challenger from a dig.
The Challengers are about 2-3 tenths slower than the Jeeps.
I saw one run last Saturday...13.7...13.35...13.25.
The Jeep all things being equal should run 13.0-13.2s...unless you
got one like mine and run it in great conditions.
The Challengers do pull hard from about 35-40 on....but if you stomp him bad off the line, he will
probably be toast.
G38 ????
cobrakid 09-19-2008, 05:42 PM ...P.S. you have 400km on it right now......so it is safe to run it hard now.
Run the crap out of it from now until you race it!
If you have some time before you are to race them....try to change the oil...first change is good at 500-700 miles on a new vehicle.
Use AmsOil 0w-40 Euro formula, and leave it a quart low.
I am hard core, and YOU WILL WIN if you follow these few tips.
Good Luck if you choose to accept this mission on behalf of Jeeps everywhere that won't get a chance to mop a Challenger up.

+1^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^the challangers 3.05 gears make um slow off the line.but just pass the 1/4 ur screwed! if it had a track package on it, then it would have to be the challanger! because of the 3.92 & a 6 spd. manual.
Barney's SRT8 09-19-2008, 08:08 PM I have raced a Challenger from a dig, it was my buddies dad and at 100mph I was ahead about a car length. The jeep just launches so hard it is a tough task trying to catch up.
SRTYA 09-19-2008, 08:26 PM the challenger will whoop u on the quarter on the top end. My jeep had cai, exhaust, and tune and my dads 300 srt8 still passes it up around 80

^^^^This is true with the 08 GCSRT8's they are way slower than the 06-07 Jeeps. Proof is Barney's post below, look at his results in his 07 compared toYoungMedics sloooow 08 against his dads 300 SRT8... :D:D:D:D

kokanee13 09-19-2008, 08:45 PM Well good info guys! I will be fun win or lose! I'll video this one and post it for you guys...god we have too much time on our hands at work! Does a CAI matter if its always -20 up here! Northern Alberta?
RichieRacer 09-19-2008, 11:21 PM i raced a one on the street till like 45 it was neck and neck.... it didnt pull like the gc though from a start
navyavi469 09-20-2008, 12:56 AM I've never raced the two side by sde, but I did drive a Chally for a few days. The Chally is a slug... gearing is horrible. You will whoop the chally off the line, to 60, and probably a car length ahead at the 1/4 mile.
ColdSRT 09-20-2008, 02:41 AM My chally and jeep are dead even as far as performance mods. I have not raced them against eachother. I can tell you the jeep pulls hard out of the hole. The chally is tough to stick with the runcraps but once it catches it pulls long and hard up to 130(so far). The jeep falls off early but I don't know if it falls off enough to give up the holeshot advantage. Fun as hell no matter what you are driving. Go get him and have fun either way.

Watch the video. That car was a 6 speed (which all have 3.92 LSD rears), and its performance was subpar. So many people think manuals are so great and their performance is so much better then automatics. Its just not true anymore. IN the 70's, 80's and early 90's, maybe, but with the introduction of the latest 5-8 speed autos and electronic controls, autos perform just as well as, if not better then, the manuals.
We are still the fastest of the SRT8's. It will be about the same as all the chargers and 300's I've raced, they go down by 2-3 car lengths off the launch, and crawl back to within a car length at the end of the track. The challenger is a little lighter but you should still consistantly pull off a win. Just past the 1/4 traps he'll pass you by.

true however we have the torque mgmt w/autos & I belive the manual's don't, plus with dr's & a higher rpm launch with the manual could launch as well as us! dunno..guess will have to wait & see...where did you see the video? it's rumored that the track pack chally can be a possible 12 sec. car off the show room floor!

Dude that makes absolutely no sense at all . . . the six-speed has 3.73 gears for crying out loud! That sucker should RIIIIIIP!!
Funny how even in the article they stated the engine seemed "doggy" compared to the automatic '08 they tested before. Wonder if they got a dodgy motor (no pun intended).
1/4 against the Challenger should be a win, just like the GCSRT8 vs. all the other SRT8's. It's close though. From a dig you'll blow him away to 60, your lead will be shrinking (or nearly gone) by the time you hit 100. The LX's have way better top end than we do.
Dunno anything about the G38 but if it's anything like the G37 you should have no problem smoking his azz.

At least add a CAI to have the same mods as him. But you will beat him up to the 1/4 mile with no problem, the key is the launch you'll have. Traction control off, auto stick in 1st and let it shift by itself, and no need to power brake, just punch it on go.
Good luck!

I agree that test made no sense! woohoo! ya buy a 09' that won't beat a 08' I still think they should have introduce the challanger srt8 with more hp..the car's body looks sick as hell' but us Jeep srt guys can beat them..many people spent 10k over msrp:eek:...just to be as quick as the 300c & chargers:eek::eek:
kokanee13 09-22-2008, 12:24 AM Well, boys It happened. I wish I could spit out some numbers for you, but I can't. We did this by marking off a 1/4mile on the runway. And the rest was by done by trust. Off the line was a no brainer. To 60mph was not close, I was ahead by a car length, the 1/4 was close..but still had it. Now the 0 to 100 to 0. I think the bigger boots on the GC helped stop that big ***** to another win. So GCSRT8 3to0 the G-37S was no comp! 3 to 4 cars behind. The video did not turn out well, too dark. Will do it again in the day when a few more mods are added to all 3. Thanks for the help boys.
