: My Jeep may have saved my hide tonight...

I was on my way home tonight passing by the local mall when I got caught in the middle of a 4 car accident. I was nearly the 5th. I was traveling in heavy traffic at about 45 mph in the far right lane. I was approaching an intersection when some idiot who was in the left turn lane at the light decided they wanted to go straight and pulled right into traffic. The car they pulled in front of swerved to the right striking the car next to her and in front of me. This left the small pick up on my left with nowhere to go exept into me or the two now stopped in front of him. I had a car to my right in the turn lane so I was also heading right for these two in front of us. So we both locked up our brakes and this is where everything changed. All I remember was that I was stopping really fast and the poor truck just kept sliding towards the two ahead. I was almost to a complete stop when I think he noticed I was no longer next to him so he started to go right but made a last minute decision to try and split the difference between the cars in the left turn lane and the two in front of him. He ended up hiting one of the cars on his left before he made it back into his lane. Meanwhile I had a Navigator closing in fast behind me with his brakes locked up. Luckily since I had stopped so quickly the car that was on my right was no longer there so I floored it and jumped into the open lane, going around the two stopped in front of me and through the intersection. I turned around up ahead to go back and make sure everyone was alright and see if they needed a witness, the Navigator followed. As I approached the accident scene I was relieved to see that nobody was hurt just shaken up a bit. The four that were hit seemed to have only minor dammage since a rear end accident never occured. They all decided to pull off up ahead and wait for the cops and didn't seem to need us. The guy in the Navigator said something kind of funny to me although it didn't seem like it at the time. He asked if I drove for NASCAR or something because he'd never seen anyone avoid an accident like I just had. He said I stopped so quickly that he thought for sure he was going to hit me even though he was a good distance from me when it all happened. I gotta tell you my Jeep performed flawlessly. I never once lost control of her even durring the panic stop. I've never felt more confident driving in a situation like that than I did tonight even though I was shaken up quite a bit myself. This SRT8 is an amazing vehicle and I consider myself very fortunate that I was driving it and not my wife's Ram. I don't think the outcome would've been quite the same esspecially for the poor people in front of me that I would have undoubtedly slammed into. Here's an interesting fact about the whole thing. The idiot that caused the accident drove away without a scratch and nobody got a plate number, doesn't it figure!

Glad to hear nobody was hurt. Be careful this time of year, lots of shoppers driving like idiots!

Dude thats an awesome story! I had sweaty palms just reading it. It's great to know we have such a tuned and balanced vehicle. I've driven mine hard into turns and in empty parking lots, just practicing emergency maneuvers like we had to do for EVOC training when I was a police officer. This thing outhandles and outperforms any vehicle we ever had in the fleet or for patrol.

I'm glad that you are OK and that nobody was seriously injured in the MVA.

I have to agree on the congrats. I am still waiting for delivery and the more you wait, the more you start to question and look at other vehicles/options.

I would like to print that story and read it any time I have any doubts about my choice to get one of these trucks!

Big Brembos and high hp for the win. :D

Those big Brembos are the reason that I hooked up my rear fog lights as extra turn signals and brake lights - we need to give vehicles with lesser brakes more warning that we are stopping

Got to give you props too man....the jeep is awsome but it takes a pilot to perform that way under pressure. Thumbs up to you both!

all the srt vehicles have excellent brakes but braking is not something that sorta gets lost on forums when considering performance
