: What kind of fuel mileage do you guys REALLY get?

I'm currently driving a C6 corvette, after owning a 405rwhp lightning, 460rwhp cobra, etc, but I have a dog on the way. I'm going to sell the corvette for something that is a nicer daily driver, more room for the dog, but something still fun. I've been toying with the idea of the TBSS (i really don't want to hear any GC vs tb bickering), an srt8GC or maybe some sort of bigger diesel truck.

Anyways, after reading one fellows sig on here it said his truck was getting 45L/100KM or 5 MPG. Is that about normal for them?

I don't have much problem "paying to play" but I drive quite a bit and it'd be my daily driver. The display on my corvette says 16L/100kms (quite good on gas) and when I was in my friends TBSS he was getting about 18L/100 kms. Seem pretty good for a truck, even though I know they are slower.

ANYWAYS, enough rambling, what do you guys usually see, fuel consumption-wise because although the srt8 GC is my favourite of the bunch, it might not be right for me.

I normally get 12.5 give or take, mostly city driving.

I average about 14 mpg with a mix of about 70%/30% highway/city driving.

So what's going on there is some serious pedal mashing. Put an egg on the gas pedal and you can nurse 16mpg or better down the highway. 11.5-13 in town.

Heh I remember silverbullet telling us about that . . . he got that during his break-in period. Alot of people believe in breaking in a new motor by leaving it in PARK and letting it rev at 2500-3000RPM for 10 mins or so, then switch to a lower RPM and do it some more, then back up to 3K, etc. Silverbullet was doing that and read 5.15mpg -- PM him I'm sure he'll love telling the story, he works for some "go-green" environmental cleanup company so we all got a kick out of it

so that doesn't, in any way, represent what they usually get?

i've been posting similar stuff on the TBSS forums and they're saying about:

i get like 11.5 all city and driving like a *******... but driving normally in city i gotten up to 13 seen 18-19 on highway at 80mph about 15 overall

If they aren't too far off from eachother, I know which I'd choose...

Nah definitely not representative of normal driving. I don't think I've ever seen under 12mpg and I drive like a bat outta hell. I've only taken the SRT8 on a road trip once, Wichita to St. Louis, MO (~400 mile) and got around 15-16mpg on 91oct with wife +2 kids & gear, driving 75-80 most of the way.

Most of us here refer to it as "smiles per gallon" since you can't get any better SPG than with the Jeep SRT8! Seriously, you'll be way happier with a Jeep -- it's faster, better looking and the crew here is way cooler :)

Seriously -- go test drive one, launch it from a dead stop. You won't be able to wipe the grin off your face. The TBSS doesn't even compare.

I get a solid 16-16.9MPG on the highway; about 10-12MPG in town. It was a little worse during the first few thousand miles, I've got 6500 miles on there now.

Hahaah Shane,

Mortimer was correct. I was 'breaking' in the car at the time the photo was taken. I was keeping the rev's on the car above 1500 and below 2500 for about 30 mins before continuing to drive her like I stole her. That was the reading on the computer after the first 30 mins!!!!

It gets better, but what I see now from city stop and go driving is an average of 25 l/100 km's. This is strictly city driving. Mix in some highway driving, then I get about 23.5 l/100 km's. This is all by the way driver her easy! Drive her hard in any way, the milage gets worse.

Yeah, it's not great but hey, you only live once. I've only got 2200 km's on her so that's part of the reason as well

i get 12.5 mpg mostly city, but was up to 13.8 mpg city an hwy and one day she decided to drop down to 12.5. Mind you i have 10k miles on the odometer, anyone experience that before?

I don't have any idea and would not have purchased any SRT if I was concerned with MPG.

BTW-I hate the looks of the TBSS.

7 is cool with me.

12.1 mixed driving. I get a mix of 24mpg with the 6 speed vette. You can get 30mpg on the highway easily. The TBSS was just as bad or maybe a little worse then my Jeep.

/\ yah i just checked the TBSS site and they're all giving similar numbers. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll start looking through your guys' for sale section.

you would be crazy to not spend a few extra bucks and get the Jeep. In my mind after owning both, the Jeep is at least 2 times better then the TBSS in every category except towing.

What do you Canada or metric guys see? I'm more used to L/100 KM.

You're probably right. They seem to be quite a bit faster too. What can they be had for now? I'm not in the biggest rush, could I find one for 26-27 USD?

In canada they're like 50CAD. Hell, sticker on a c6 convertible is 93 CAD. gross

I've got a 6 speed and I'm only seeing about 16mpg (I think that's what it worked out to be). My DIC shows 18.8L/100 KM. For some reason I like to drive my standard cars harder.

Google does conversions quite well, just type in "13mpg to L/100km" and it'll pop right up

I think used 06's can be had for mid-twenties. I highly recommend buying new though since most folks drive the $hit out of these things. Nice thing about used though is if the dealer can certify it you can get a Chrysler 7/70K warranty (or maybe it's 8/80K? can't remember)

13 mpg worked out to 18L/ 100 kms. that's what my DIC says on my corvette. I'm not sure about the whole US gallon vs Canadian gallon, but that's interesting.

Someone find me a blacked out and slammed GC! hahaha

I'm not worried about gas guzzlers per say, I've just read tons of material saying that these trucks were REALLY bad. I think I even saw one on a top 10 gas guzzlers article.

It all depends on how you drive it.

Typically I see...

12.5 avg.

Cruise control doing 70 on the hwy. I get 15-16 no problem

Yeah I remember that article . . . can't remember which magazine wrote it. Had the Jeep Grand Cherokee (all of them -- not just the SRT8) listed as the "most gas guzzling SUV" Can't find it now for the life of me . . .

Pre and post mods - stock vs 426 I get around 10 - 13 in town. Best I got on long trip was 17, but I haven't been on a long trip in quite some time to compare. I would also urge everyone to get out a calculator and run the #s when you fill up rather than relying on the average MPG on the information center. Mine right now is showing 14.1. Can't beat or argue with mathmatics.

My last 10 tanks have been consistently 12.5-12.8 with about 98% city driving. I'm on the freeway maybe once a week, if that!

Yeah, it's a little high for me. My EVIC usually reads around 13.3-13.5 whereas my calculator says it's actually around 12.5-12.8 MPG.
