: First trip to the drags
TonySRT8 09-10-2008, 11:55 AM I'm going to the pittsburgh raceway tonight. I've never did an office 1/4 mile yet.
I want to get a timeslip before I get a predator and CRM tune.
I'm currently stock except for a BWoody 4" CAI and Jet 180 t-stat.
Question I have. Any tips on getting used to the tree? I'm also going to be racing against a stock TBSS (if he shows) and want to do us proud.
Thanks for any hints tips I can get.
Tony
SkyeHighSRT8 09-10-2008, 11:59 AM This is a good read.

TonySRT8 09-10-2008, 01:16 PM Cool, thanks for the link.
I'll post some slips tomorrow.
gregg 09-10-2008, 01:20 PM good luck tony. let us know how the springs launch
TonySRT8 09-10-2008, 01:26 PM When I was at my friends shop today getting my springs fixed. An older guy was there getting his TBSS oil changed or something.
Rob (friend/owner) said to him that my jeep is faster than his. He said "I don't think so". Which rob said, "I've drove both and I'm telling you its faster" Then before I knew it rob said to him "why don't you bring it to the dragstip tonight and race his jeep". So I guess that was his way of finally getting me to the 1/4 mile strip.
I've kept telling him I would go but wanted to wait until after I get my CMR tune. But I love to have fun with the jeep so I'm game.
He also wants to race me in the 1/4 mile against his 06 GTO since I beat him so bad in the 1/8 mile airport flashlight drags :D
SkyeHighSRT8 09-10-2008, 01:56 PM be sure to let up know how it goes.
bwheeler0018 09-10-2008, 06:53 PM good luck. Can wait to hear what happens.
Grip Grip 09-10-2008, 06:57 PM Best of luck. The anticipation is killing me.

DevssrT 09-10-2008, 07:10 PM Good luck!!...Cant wait to hear back with results!
bwheeler0018 09-10-2008, 07:13 PM I raced for the first time a few weeks ago. Just wait for the last yellow turn off and smash the gas. put in manual mode. thats what i did and i had great times. good luck.
TonySRT8 09-10-2008, 09:29 PM Here are my results. I'm car # 510. I got to the track late so I missed the first round. My first race was against a supra which I lost. Then a few races later a camaro puked its guts out on the track. They had to clean up oil, tranny fluid and antifreeze, so lane one was closed for a while. Which is why the second slip only shows my jeep. My final run was against a porsche cayenne. I lost that one cause of my reaction time :( But I did get to join the 100 MPH club :)

Now time to get a CMR tune and unchain the beast so it can run free :D
2BADGN 09-10-2008, 09:46 PM Was the lowest 13.49?
Derwood98 09-10-2008, 09:50 PM Not sure what you are reading, but if I can see the times correctly, you got a 13.4931 and the Cayenne got a 13.8700. Looks like a win to me. BTW, reaction time has nothing to do with the E.T.
TonySRT8 09-10-2008, 09:59 PM Here is a better pic of my final/best run of the night against the porsche

I might be missing something, but other then the slip saying winner, how did the cayenne win? Look at the E.T. in the 1/4. Your, 13.4931 and cayenne was 13.7800. How does the cayenne win?
mortimer 09-10-2008, 10:19 PM Due to his slow reaction time on that run, the Cayenne may have passed the finish line first, which is why he referred to it as a "loss." Reaction time has no affect on ET, you can sit there sleeping for 3 seconds after the green and still run a 13.49.

That's the point I am trying to make.
mortimer 09-10-2008, 10:22 PM Then I call it a WIN!!
Cayenne's suck monkey ballz :) Can't believe I actually considered a used one of those over the SRT8 (since a USED one would be all I can afford) . . .
Matt McKenzie 09-11-2008, 05:15 AM Your times will still be computed the same no matter your reaction time, but the Cayenne still crossed the finish line first, so he is considered the winner. People say reaction time doesn't matter....but it does when you are racing the guy next to you and not the clock!

ya, he still crossed the finish line first by a bumper.
If you take the reaction time into it. He had a .4 second jump on me :(
But I'm sure I'll get lots of practice at the timing tree :D
2BADGN 09-11-2008, 06:29 AM Congrats anyhow on your first time at the track. See the problem with any vehicle especially these Jeeps are production tolerances. Some are faster than others ie., Sir Matt Mckenzie, he really doesn't have any thing done besides a tune and CAI and he is running 12.7. I would rate yours in the bottom half of the percentile range. No pun intented. Get the tune, exhuast, heads and cam and you should be knocking on the door of 12.5. Good luck and have fun.
TonySRT8 09-11-2008, 06:50 AM How do you get corrected times? I've tried to search and found lots of threads where people post their corrected times. But none showing how to get them. I want to try and get a constant as I progress thru my mods.

It's all good. I'm only out to have some fun with my friends. I am going to get a CMR tune and probably a full exhaust next year. The main reason for me buying the jeep is that I wanted something that no one else has by my house. Which I have with the jeep. It only took one test drive to know I wanted it ;)

Ok, I figured out how to do it. My corrected times are
Based on:
Temp: 60°
Humidity: 69%
Track Altitude: 1210 feet
Pressure: 30.23 in.
Density Altitude = 1367 feet ET MPH
Uncorrected 13.4931 @ 101.67
Corrected 13.29 @ 103.17
That will give me a baseline to compare with my slips after the CMR tune right?
liquiddi 09-11-2008, 08:12 AM those are great times. You've got a fast truck. You can't expect to go out the first time and tree it every time. You did great.
gregg 09-11-2008, 09:00 AM good times tony. congrats
Matt McKenzie 09-11-2008, 09:02 AM I like well built Jeeps, LOL!!!!!
