: Just days from buying one!!!
hm3tocapt 12-06-2006, 04:39 AM Good day all.
This is my first post here so I will try hard to not sound as dumb as I look.
I am just days away from convincing my wife that I "NEED" a Jeep SRT8. I have been working her for the past month and she is ready to crack. I currently drive a Pontiac GTO which is a great car and well put together but we just had our second little boy about four months ago and two child seats in a GTO just does not work well!
My question is this. Does MOPAR have part numbers for CAT-BACK exahusts? If I buy the Jeep and then want to go out and buy something mail order after the fact, my wife will skin me alive. I think if I can have the cost of the exhaust rolled up in the rest of the car loan as part of the deal. I went to the dealership with my dad the other day and we both agreed the factory exhaust is just missing that "something." I expected anger from 420 horse.
I was reading the car stats page of car and driver last night. It has the JEEP SRT8 listed as doing 0-60 in 4.6 sec. How in the hell can a 4700lb SUV with only 420 horse do that kind of time as compaired to the Mustang GT500 doing 0-60 in 4.5sec and that car weights about 4000. Hell the base corvett with 400 horse does 0-60 in 4.4 and weights 3300lbs. Either the listing are full of crap or the JEEP is WAY under rated for horse power. If 4.6 is true for the JEEP, I am thinking about 450 to 475 crank horse power.
Thoughs?
Mango 12-06-2006, 04:48 AM My dad and I also suspect that the GCSRT8 is under rated on the papers. The numbers it pulls are fantastic. Good luck and I hope you get one!!! Every time I sit in mine, I crack a grin that would make the Cheshire cat proud.
ResumeSpeed 12-06-2006, 05:00 AM You are going to LOVE this vehicle, congrats in advance!!
Pics and part numbers for the Mopar/Corsa can be found at this link: http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_catback.htm
You can also go for a Mopar or other brand cold air intake which will give you some nice growl at WOT. http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_srt8_intake.htm
The factory rating of 420 hp is typically conservative but not by a large amount. The Jeep launches like a rocket, with little or no wheelspin. 0-60 times of 4.5 to 4.9 seconds seem to be the norm for stock vehicles. 1/4 mile times for stock Jeeps have run from the upper 12's, averaging in the low to mid+ 13's. There is a list of track times for the Jeep at this link: http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_srt8_track.htm
timster 12-06-2006, 05:04 AM I think one of the reasons why the Jeep does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds is because it's AWD.
Anyone else?

Yup, AWD is what makes the difference off the line.
shodanusmc 12-06-2006, 08:07 AM There was a test done comparing the 6.1 to the old 426. Both produced around 467 HP. I believe that article is available on either this site or the blue site. The AWD sure helps with the launch. Press and go!
hm3tocapt 12-06-2006, 08:11 AM I am a member of Navy Fed Credit Union and they have a new car buying service. I sent an e-mail to the local dealership, not specifically asking about the SRT.
I was told that they will sell me any car in stock for $329 below invoice. That puts the Jeep I want at about $42680ish. I would think that is a hell of a deal, right?
I just have to break the news that I want the SRT8. I'm willing to bet once he finds out the car I want he will give some song and dance about the price.
Anyone else get a good deal or did you all pay over MSRP?
Ink Pump 12-06-2006, 08:21 AM Your 4 month old is going love the 0-60 in less than 5
This will get him hooked early on in life.
The starting traction is key to performance in my opinion. In fact its even more impressive when the roads are wet. Nobody seems to keep up with me
The price seems to be linked to your area. I paid the same as you suggest with option 1 and entertainment system
Enjoy!

I paid $500 under sticker price back in June. My rig was sitting on the dealer lot for almost 6 weeks with no buyers. They wanted to get rid of it which was the last 2006 SRT8 my dealer was receiving.

I got my 07 with Navi and opt Package one for $42,700. That was about $2200 under sticker price. If there was an EP on the 07, it would have been $39,996. That was 3 months ago in September when the 07's just hit the street. I qould never pay MSRP or over for a car, SUV, boat, bus, plane, or railcar.
9900rpm 12-06-2006, 01:38 PM To the OP asking about 0-60 times, I believe it has to do with the GCSRT8 being AWD, and also it may have better gearing. I say this because if you compare the 60 to 100, or 100 to 120mph times, I am sure the GC will not keep up with the others.
When you guys say an '07 with entertainment and opt 1, does that include both the DVD and navigation, or just dvd, no navi? I am asking about the $42,600 or $42,700 that you guys paid.

If a person says Opt Pkg 1 and Entertainment System, thats it....no nav. I had the Sunroof, Navi and Opt pkg 1. (No Entertainment System)
