Seriously thinking of a new Jeep SRT8. Drawbacks are no
light trailer hitch available from Jeep, absolutely no discounts
offered, and if a '07 red limited's paint job is any indication of
the orange peel these cars come with OMG!!!! Lousiest
paint job I have seen in years.

None in area to test drive so if I do this I need feed back on
the quirks, good and bad points, et. This will be my daily
driver in Detroit. I also have a '93 conv vette for summer
fun.

Went to the dealer last nite $48, 481 OTD with every option
except engine heater and entertainment package in back.
I brought an employee discount cert with me, guy wouldn't
even look at it. He said he could have one for me in 5 days.

Maybe a new vette and a beater truck?
Kind of like this SRT8 though, would have to be black or silver,
red last choice after seeing the red limited last nite.

I bought a new Typhoon in '93, it was a fairly rough ride.
How really is the Jeep ride?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice and opinions
you may offer.

"Drawbacks are no light trailer hitch available from Jeep"

if you're only looking to tow up to 2000lbs, there is a solution available that bolts right on with little effort and is completely hidden when not in use....

G35Coupe,
Thanks very much for the info. I didn't see a price
on that site.

The Curt hitch (11103) works great. I had to buy a different 1 1/4 x 12" ball mount though as I didn't want the back of the trailer nearly hitting the ground (see linked thread in previous reply).

I wouldn't call the ride good, but it is better than my 2003 Infiniti FX45. At any rate, I am extremely happy with this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone.

If you Look around, I'm sure you can find a better deal. I got my steel blue metallic for $950 over invoice by contacting a few dealerships in my area..

On another note, I Just got back from doing some wide open throttle action - man this truck loves the cold air here in New England!! The torque on this thing is awesome!

I am in Massachusetts - I have the SRT package and Nav

Went to another dealer today and they had a black one without nav.
It had a sunroof and the SRT option group I.

$43,697 sticker which was what he wanted. I was told that these
are not plentiful and thusly not discounted at all.

The out the door price was $46,339.70

What should I offer him, 45K?

This is in the Detroit suberbs by the way.

Maybe I should search the net find a dealer and if saved a
couple grand take a train or whatever, buy and drive back
from out of town.

What say you folks.

Thanks,
Craig

I'm in Ohio and was able to find 2 dealers that were willing to discount. I ordered a 2007 in Sept. and they took $1000 off the sticker price. It still has not arrived so they brought one in from Indiana a few weeks ago and still gave me $1000 off. It is loaded with every option including the engine heater. They still have one at the dealership, Black with the SRT1 group, no nav or dvd. The one I ordered is do in Jan. and will be loaded with the exception of the engine heater.

Well the dealer accepted my offer!!! 45K OTD that $1340 off sticker.

I drove the car and of course I'm absolutely hooked.
Told the admiral (wife) that maybe I'd need a little
SUV to help me deliver oil (I'm an Amsoil dealer).

She was skeptical but accepted it.
Called back and will drop a deposit check off
to the dealer tommorrow.

I'm actually kinda excited for a 60 year old!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait till next week.
Thank you guys for all your help.

Craig,
Congrats on the purchase! At this point, I can only dream of what it feels like to own one of these. I've always wanted a Ty, and really wanted an all-out SUV like that. The Jeep SRT 8 is the answer.

But IIRC, Teda and Timster seems to have worked the best deals on these vehicles. 950 over invoice is a heck of a deal, very close to Teda's (Hi Teda, I've been trying to talk myself out of this in spite of your very accurate and glowing reports to me in pm's) deal of approx. 2600 off msrp.

Going to try this on my dealer today. I may be flying to Florida (or Mass.) if this does't work. No, really. I've narrowed the color down to Black (ala Dark-Vader Typhoon style) or Steel Blue...

If you really want a high quality hitch that doesn't look like crap, do what I did; have one custom fabricated. Check this out. http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1707

WOW!!!!!!!
What a day. Went to Parkway Jeep to give them a couple thou to
seal the deal. The owner of the dealership (who has a modified
Hennessey Jeep SRT8) came up and introduced himself, told me
what a great vehicle I was buying and ask me if I wanted to take
it home today. I said how would you do this as I haven't finalized
the financing and he said no problem, gave me a dealer plate,
arranged for dealer insurance, and said come on back when I get
the balance of the $$$$$. Car completely detailed, not just prepped.

I drove her home. Excuse me but this vehicle gives me a boner.
I had second thoughts about black but not now.

The wife is even impressed.

This vehicle is much more performance designed/oriented than my
Typhoon was. Also quite a few bells and whistles when you read
the manual. I'll be a couple days sorting out everything, staring at
the engine, licking the dipstick, you guys know.

Are there any places that offer engine upgrade appearance stuff.
You know like chrome caps stuff like that. I can't see doing any
performance mods as this thing already will kick my '93 Vette's
ass.

My wife has named the SRT8 "ebony". She has absolutely NO
CLUE what this car really is and thinks it's just a JEEP.

SHHhhhhh.
