Obviously I did not purchase the SRT-8 for its stellar mpg but I was curious as to what others are seeing. I have 1100 miles on the Jeep and am averaging around 13.5 mpg with no mods to date. More importantly my rpm's at 75 mph runs around 3000. Is that the norm? It seems high even for the gearing. I am also noticing a lag in down shift response and at time no down shift. Any suggestions? I have not addressed the shift points with the dealership yet. Seems more knowledge comes from this website.

i have 1100 miles on mine also and i'm averaging 11.8 as of now

and 3k rpm for 75mph doesn't sound high

and yes downshif sucks! speciall from 30 to 40mph you hit the pedal and it feels like a civic!

For the type of vehicle and type of gearing we have, the RPMs at highway speeds are normal/justified. However, compared to most cars, 3K at 75mph is high, especially with a large V8 coupled with 5 speed tranny. The advantage here is performance, the disadvantage is mpg.

12.6 MPG Plenty of WOT

The RPM is high at 75 - My Porsche has 6 gears. It brings the speed right down for long highway trips. I've had several vehicles in the past with an overdrive for just this situation. The SRT certainly has the torque to support an overdrive just for the highway.

Everything you mentioned, unfortunately, is completely normal.

Oh well, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

I am averaging about 13.5 MPG with 90-95 % highway driving. I average 80-85 MPH with occational WOT up to 100+ MPH.

I have had no problems with down shifting at WOT, even from 25-35 MPH.

I love this truck! I think it likes the cold here in the North East as my GC seems to have turned into a beast with the recent cooler air

I knew these were not meant for gas mileage. Luckily for me gas is very cheap in Saudi. I only do short drives and no highway cruising..... the best I've seen was 10.3 mpg. Most of the time the computer is saying 10.0. I've got just shy of 2000 miles now.

Not sure if I'd own this beast in the States.... but I have to say it sure is fun!
