Im talking about the winter tires. I know its been discussed over and over but i need to know from a Western Canada imput. Ive never owned a awd ride before but always had summer and winter tires for my fwd. I do my fair share of Hwy2 driving.
Do i buy the winter tires or the stock ones will do just fine in winter. I know scratches will occur on the rims but thats not my concern.
Thank you
I got four 275/40R20 Continental snow tires for the Jeep last year and they did not too bad. Stopping and Turning is improved, off the line traction, not so much. The 95% power to the rear Tires default and 420hp isn't the best setup for getting going quick in fresh snow. Compact stuff it gets better.
Those tires aren't as good as a set of Blizzaks I had on a Jeep Liberty. The rims get chewed up bad unless your going to clean them every second day. If I had to do it over I'd get a set of 18's and the best snow tire you can get.
That said, I drove to Vancouver and back in a snow storm last X-mas. No problems, but the width of the tire can cause the jeep to float a little in deep snow.
I changed the tires out early last spring, then we had that spring snow fall. The stockers held up better then I thought, but stopping in the slush was a little tricky at times.

I went stock last winter, and had no problems at all. Not a ton of highway driving, but out to the farm on secondary highways several times with no problems.

I did the trip from calgary to edmonton at least 5 times, as well as Calgary to Penticten once. Put 10k on the vehicle during the winter and hit everything from good weather to a crazy snow storm through Rodgers Pass- and did it all on the stock runflats. Worked great, no complaints. TC got confused a few times off the line on icey hills and would chirp away but thats about it.
