Hey guys,
I recently traded in my 2007 Porsche Cayman S for a 2006 Jeep GC SRT8. It is black, and I havent had a chance to really drive it yet, as I have it taken apart because I am painting all the trim and wheels black. So, I have a few questions before I get to drive it, which will be monday. I would appreciate any help! :D

Does my truck have U connect and is it compatible with a T-Mobile Dash?
How do I reset my perform service light if it is on, and I know the car doesnt need service?
If the remote is gone for the rear DVD, how much will that cost to replace?
The truck has aftermarket HID's, and the right headlamp looks to be a lower kelvin rating than the left. Can I buy new bulbs, say 8500K, and interchange them plug and play? If so, what kind of bulbs?
Lastly, which it the best CAI to get?

Thanks for helpin out a newbie!

1. If your phone has bluetooth it'll work.
2. It should reset itself , if not probally the dealer will have to do it.
3. It'll probally cost too much.
4. That depends on what type of connection the hid has to the wiring but it shouldn't be a problem finding a replacement pair online. Try to stick with phillips brand but they all pretty much work the same - Just remember D2S type hid bulbs are for projectors and D2R hid bulbs our for reflectors - our stock headlights are reflector types ( D2R )
5. I have read that the GSM intake is the best. I chose mopar since i had the dealer install it and less worries for me w/ warranty issues.

Definitley post pics up when your car is done, I was thinking of doing the same exact thing but wasnt sure how it would come out.

...definitley get the billet antenna - it makes the car.

and enjoy the ride !

thank you for your answers!

one thing, can you elaborate on which bulbs I need to buy? I have found some D2R HID replacement bulbs, but will these necessarily fit my HID kit? In other words, are there different sized of D2R bulbs, or if I go ahead and buy these D2R's, are they simple plug and play?

Congrats on the SRT8! You will love it.

I've found many bulbs for sale on the internet, www.xenondepot.com is a great site. Also, I chose the Mopar CAI since it's a genuine mopar part and is designed and tested for our vehicle. I'm weird like that.

the service reminder can be changed. push the "menu" button above the A/C controls til you see the service reminder display and change it.

Holy crap! How long did you drive this Porsche for? Was it the turbo?

So, why did you make the switch? :D ;)

Whats the service interval for our trucks? Mine is set at 6,000 miles, but my dads 2006 Limited Grand Cherokee is set for 3,000. His is just the stocker 4.7 L V8.

For normal driving, it should be 3,000 on the SRT. Check your manual, it goes into detail. Very few of us would fall into the 6,000 mile category.

I've seen some posts recommending 1500 for the first oil change and then 3K thereafter. Remember its Synthetic oil so its going to cost more.

Yeah I saw that today while stopping at my dealer. $99.99 for an oil change! LOL!

My last truck was a 2006 V6 Grand Cherokee with the wimpy V6. I'll miss those $29.99 special oil changes.

He had a Cayman, not a Cayenne. :)

Anyhow, that's an interesting trade. Congrats.

you would have to post a pic of your hid bulb unplugged. There are hid bulbs that have the base already pre-wired for a kit and there are hid bulbs out there that are direct replacements for oem hid type systems. I would have to say you need the 9006 D2R type hid bulbs from my guess. Even if its a hid it will still need the same type of base as a normal bulb otherwise it wont go into the headlight. If you can unplug one bulb and take a picture of it, i'd be able to point you in the right direction.

Oil gets changed on the 6.1l every 6000 miles unless you are severe duty. Read your SRT manuals or check this site. http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_maintenance.htm#ENGOIL

thanks for all the help guys,

The Cayman was a Cayman S, and it had about 2400 miles on it. It was real clean, but it was my 2nd Cayman, and at 6.3, the cars are just too small for me. As you all get to know me on here, you know that I switch cars A LOT, like once every 3 months, but thats just me. I have had 4 Cayenne Turbos, all modded, and I can say that this truck is definetely more "manly", but I don't know how they would match up at highway speeds... the Cayennes are beasts up top. Also, recently had an E55, and my goal for this truck is to run like the E. I think it is feasible with some head work, cams, and all the bolt ons.

Oh, and I will get a bulb out ASAP to get a picture of it. I am heading to South Beach this weekend to get a little partying out of my system, but when I get back Monday, i will snap some shots of the truck!

Anyways, heres a few of the latest ex girlfriends :p

Change your oil every 3,000miles if ANY of these conditions applies to you per the manual:

1 Day or night temps below 32 degrees F
2 Stop and go driving
3 Extensive engine idling
4 Driving in dusty conditions
5 Shot trips of less than 10 miles
6 More than 50% of your driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 90 degrees F
7 Trailer towing (HA!)

I have to think a lot of us fall within one of the first 5 cnditions. I for one have a 6 mile trip to work everyday. Would consider it stop and go driving since its not on the highway, and, especially now that it is winter, here in PA temps routinely fall below 32 at night, and during the winter months sometimes don't go above 32 for days at a time.

What if you didn't have synthetic oil in your Jeep ,would you then be changing your oil every 1500 miles because you fell that the driving that you do is extreme? You maybe but everybody else, come on. Normal driving conditions require oil be changed every 6000 miles, just state the facts, not what you do.

barho

cmn - I am just telling everyone what I do per the manual. I think if you polled most of us here on the boards, you find that most people change every 3,000 miles.

And the point about not using synthetic is moot, since the manual (and the SRT engineers) state that only sythetic oil should be used.

But, it's your vehicle, so it's ultimately up to you when you feel you should have you oil changed. If none of those conditions I stated ever apply to you, then I guess you can get by with changing every 6,000.

What confuses me is that nobody can give me a straight answer. Sure, the dealerships want you back every 3,000 for the money. However, one of the great advantages about synthetic oil is that it does not break down as fast as non-synthetic. So I fail to see the point in going every 3,000 miles. But hey, it's your money to waste.
