Hello,

I´m looking to lower the revs at highway speed, (yes, I know I we did not buy this beast to save gas, but I sure dont know why Jeep didnt put an overdrive in it), thus I would need to change the gear ratio, (ring and pinions), on the two differentials.

Any suggestions or places where I can get this done will be most welcome my gas thirsty brothers.

Thanks!

You are crazy ;)

I believe changing gears would involve hardcore PCM manipulation, which is something not yet available.

PS. It has an overdrive.

If it didn't you'd be revving at 2600rpm on the highway.

and to achive a top speed of 160 mph you'd need an almost 7000 rpm red line.

The fifth gear is not a 1:1 ratio, I belive 4th is.

Also, weigh out the cost of a gear swap.................

let's just say it's about $850.00 per diff to do a swap, that's $1,700.00

Do you have any idea how long it takes to save $1,700.00 in gas?

Assuming a $400.00/month gasoline bill, and let's give a VERY generous 15% savings in economy with a gear swap, it would take 28 months to break even.

Not to mention that you will use more gas with increased throttle pitch, trying to achive an acceleration that you've become accustomed to!
