: Finally ran her in the quarter!!!!
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 06:49 AM Well, I got my chance to run the 1/4 mile this past Saturday at the New England Dragway in New Hampshire. The best part about my runs is that the only mods I have are a 4" CAI and a CMR tune. The muffler change and reenator delete don't add any HP, as they are more for just sound. Anyways, my best run was 12.79 @ 105.45. I text Andy and he corrected my time, so corrected it would be 12.59 @ 107.1. Corrected or not, it was great to throw my Jeep down a track in 12.79....and everyone there was completely shocked, I don't think they had ever seen one before. I never lost a race, out of seven....but then again I only raced damn Honda's with turbos and nitrous...so no good competition, hahaha!
On a side note, I was also in the car show there and won a trophy in a mild class.
I will post a couple videos when I get them from my friends.
Okay, I just got the link to the video my friend made. I do not know how it looks since I am at work and cannot watch it, but I will post it anyway. The 12.79 run is when I am on the farside going against a white Honda, enjoy and let me know what you think:

What were the conditions like?
Must be a real good track or your truck is way strong. How many miles you got one her?
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 07:22 AM Yeah Tony, I think I have a really strong truck...me and Jeff talk about this a bit, just well built, and takes the mods great. It was overcast and around 70 degrees.
Vinnysrt8 08-04-2008, 07:31 AM nice runs matt
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 09:58 AM Congrats bud looks like us mildly modded 07's are doing well and now wonder if the cam that came in the 07's are a little better than other years???

No, I haven't recorded my 0-60 time yet...I really don't have the means to do it, besides all ghetto like, LOL!
Nice numbers Matt I got to get my 07 down the track. Guess its time for Andys tune
Thanks Bill, yeah, you should get that tune...its amayayazing!!!!

My best time, the 12.79, came after a 3 hour cool down with ice on the mainfold. I brakestall to inbetween 1500 and 2000 rpm's...and it launches just nasty...like I said earlier, I will try to get a couple vids up tonite....one of a 12.90 run with a great launch and of course my 12.79.....

Wow a three hour cool down. What kind of temps did you have after a 3 hour cool down? I cooled down for 45 minutes but when I go to the track friday I will cool for a few hours.
Nice 60' time, and 1/8 time. My best 60' time is 1.89. Maybe I will try to brake stall next time. I believe Andy's tune gets rid of torque mngt. so we dont bog down like before.
Did you see you best 60' time by brake stalling or just mashing it?
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 01:55 PM I get better times with the brakestall, my mashings were getting my 12.9-12.97. I do now believe whole heartedly that Andy's tune are the sh!t!!!!
1BAMFR 08-04-2008, 02:01 PM Nice times....You must have got one of those factory beasts

Wow I might have to try some brake stalling on friday. Ive heard that mashing is better but maybe for some it is not. Im assuming your 60' times were better with brake stall also?
Nice times....You must have got one of those factory beasts
....lucky
Are you taking notes, I told you:cool:
I am taking notes wade. I guess 45 minutes and 2 rounds of ice wasnt enough. Im going to have to get 3 or 4 big bags and let it sit for 3 hours haha...im going to make a night out of it.
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 02:19 PM Tony + 3 hour wait FTW
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 02:23 PM I am doing a test and tune on saturday, so I will be running the ice again. I will do a couple runs, wait 2-3 hours, couple more runs, etc.
Yeah Keoni...I agree, me and Jeff have been talking about that! I just got a great Jeep that takes the mods great and just shoots me down the track....wait till I build her up, I am coming for you now....well, in a couple of years, hahaha!
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 02:29 PM IDK I think its the HID lights screw Andy and his tune-JK its the ****.
Take out your floor mats, remove your antenna, take out all the stuff in the cargo area it will come out and take a good dump. If the seats were not such a PITA I would remove those but YOU DO NOT WANT TO TRUST ME
ajharman 08-04-2008, 02:30 PM Tony + 3 hour wait FTW
I will get me some 12's if it is low 70's like it is suppose to be. I ran 13.13 in 90F weather so 70 degree dry air and 3 hours of ice....I better get 12's or ill Sh!t
brake stall or no brake stall....brake stall or no brake stall....brake stall or no brake stall....brake stall or no brake stall....
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 02:32 PM No brake stall, autoshift in (1) and hold the **** on
ajharman 08-04-2008, 02:33 PM No brake stall, autoshift in (1) and hold the **** on
Thats what I have been doing and my 60' times were 1.89 at best.
Now that Matt got a 60' time of 1.80 by brake stalling it makes me think I should try that...
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 02:35 PM I quit caring about the 60' and only worry about the end result but you can try both ways not saying his way is wrong. I think he carries a photo of Ace in the passenger seat for good luck try that
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 02:38 PM Ha...WTF...no pictures of Ace here, just a good brake stall and I am off...of course in autostick as well!
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 02:41 PM I'll try it next time I'm out, thats the brake stall not the Ace picture mod-LOL
HoustonSRT-8 08-04-2008, 02:48 PM I need to work on getting my 12 second timeslip. I'm sick of my 13.00 corrected time. :worried:
mrfreeze 08-04-2008, 02:48 PM Gratz on the good times matt...We need to line up and do a heads up race next time your down this way...My best time so far in 80+ weather with my mods is a 12.71 so i think it would be a good race...
ajharman 08-04-2008, 02:49 PM Ill try no brake stall after my 2-3 hour cool down and if I cant get 12's then ill let it sit for another hour and try brake stall. Try to get an even comparison

What your mods be freeze man?
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 02:58 PM Yeah, I threw the Ace mod out after my first run, which was a 14.86. Plus I had to clean out my mouth a little, because I threw up a bit!
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 02:59 PM Hey Steve....if I rember correctly, didn't I beat you the last time we lined up, hahaha! Just messin bro. When I have a chance I would love to!

Only beat me cuse i was to busy looking at the picture you have of ace taped to your dash board and was wondering to myself wtf??
mrfreeze 08-04-2008, 03:04 PM What your mods be freeze man?
bwoody intake,custom cmr tune,custom exhaust and 180t-stat..
Matt McKenzie 08-04-2008, 03:54 PM Only beat me cuse i was to busy looking at the picture you have of ace taped to your dash board and was wondering to myself wtf??
Haha, I guess the Ace mod does work, if used properly. I need to put my 170 t-stat and pulley in very soon....drop another tenth or two!!!!
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 03:58 PM Smells like a call out to me Matt
ajharman 08-04-2008, 04:06 PM Smells like a call out to me Matt
Seems like Matt and Wade have the strongest running rigs for the mods you two have....you guys suck haha:D
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 04:07 PM OR were just patient at the track and let it cool off-JK had to mess with ya. Trust me once I've got the hood popped, the ice on the intake and sitting in the stands I have been tempted to go run as I will see a vehicle I want to race. If you let it cool with ice for 2-3 hours and make your pass after dark and it has dropped 10 degrees or so you will more than likely not run any faster the rest of the night so make that pass count, after that have fun and hot lap it if you want

HAHA I know the feeling man. I am really going to take your advice for serious this friday. I will get there around 5 and try not to run till 8 because hopefully the truck will cool off and the weather will cool down also.
I wont have a wideband by then so my a/f might not be dialed in perfect but...
I am really going to try hard to wait. I think combining that and 70F dry temps I can pull a 12.99999999
Lets see a time slip! I was running the same 60ft but almost .7 second slower than you?? Im at sea level and cool air...
corrected times are crap!
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 04:13 PM If the intake is cool to the touch and it has been sitting for several hours, 70 degrees and LOW humidity (not sure of your elevation) I'm gonna throw out a 12.79 for your pass.
ajharman 08-04-2008, 04:14 PM Lets see a time slip! I was running the same 60ft but almost 1 second slower than you?? Im at sea level and cool air...

I think corrected times are a good way to put your mods on an even playing field to see how much you REALLY gained. If you correct to same standard each time you have a fool proof way to see your gains.
If I go run without headers and tune in 50F eather and run a 13.0 and go back with headers and tune in 90F and run a 13.2 that doesnt really give me a good representation of how much I gained with the new mods.
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 04:14 PM Lets see a time slip! I was running the same 60ft but almost .7 second slower than you?? Im at sea level and cool air...

The weather right now says a cold front coming through...high of 73F for friday. Track is at 725' I think
Im going to wait 2-3 hours...I dont care if I rip my hair out wanting to run so bad, its not happening. I NEED 12's out right. haha I sound like an addict...maybe because I am :D

Since you do not believe me, I will gladly post a time slip as soon as possible, I will post multiple ones too, if you want so that you can see that my vehicle number is the same on all of them. I am not a big fan of the corrected time either, but people use them, so I put it up...I ran a 12.79 and am happy as hell about it.
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 04:17 PM Use the search feature for mine and its also on the TBSSOWNERS site as I was there with a group of those guys

No one ever did but you, if you were an active member you would know that Matt is trustworthy. It would be like me going on the TBSSOWNERS sight and telling a 4,000 post + guy what to do when non of the other TBSS owners are and that would not go over well and probably lead them to telling me to keep my non TBSS owning ass comments to myself

Sorry, but there was nothing positive in your post...."lets see a time slip!"...that sounds and types like a "I don't believe you"...so sorry I took it that way...oh yeah and the corrected times are crap is not really positive either...so maybe...nevermind, just look at your post again, you doubt me because you run the same 60ft, but not close at the end...you typed it, not me. But, I will do so, so there is no doubt.
Thanks centralTex!!!!!!
CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 04:42 PM Your not getting the point we have TRUST on here and that is good enough for US, if it smells like BS trust me we'd call it in a second. Now post your 11.75 pronto

moleson10 08-04-2008, 04:55 PM Ill try no brake stall after my 2-3 hour cool down and if I cant get 12's then ill let it sit for another hour and try brake stall. Try to get an even comparison
Here's a thought on brake stall or no. I notice when I mash mine with no brake stall there is a momentary lag before it launches. When I break stall it goes instantly but I doesn't feel like it launches quite as hard.
Maybe you need to lead the lights a little more to get the best launch with no stall.

moleson10 08-04-2008, 05:10 PM If you've done both, see if your reaction times are longer with no stall vs with.
2BADGN 08-04-2008, 05:21 PM I never said I didnt believe you! ? ! ? way to type words in my mouth  I just have always been a believer of posting actual timeslip! That way no one can question it!
Hey look, if Matt said he ran a 12.79 he without question ran a 12.79. He is an honest person and has no reason to lie.
The thing I hate about all Internet forums is all the jealous people out there whether it pertains to this thread or others. It seems as if people don't get their 2 cents worth they are not happy.
I am pissed. I may start a *** you thread here soon.

CentralTexHemi 08-04-2008, 05:40 PM Lets see a time slip! I was running the same 60ft but almost .7 second slower than you?? Im at sea level and cool air...
corrected times are crap!

Good #'s... My 1/8 mile is the same as your but my trap is almost 3 mph slower?? Wonder why?
billyboys 08-04-2008, 07:12 PM Well, I got my chance to run the 1/4 mile this past Saturday at the New England Dragway in New Hampshire.
Impressive times Matt

ajharman 08-04-2008, 09:13 PM I am also very jealous matt. those are great times for your mods....What is the track elevation you run at?
DevssrT 08-04-2008, 09:15 PM Great times Matt- way to represent!
Matt McKenzie 08-05-2008, 06:25 AM Thanks for all the great comments guys. I am getting my t-stat and pulley put in this week, so I can see what they add when I go to ESTA on Saturday for the test and tune.

Hell no!!!!! Um, okay....yeah sure I can;)

What where you running, the TBSS or the GCSRT8?
Blown-WK 08-05-2008, 09:16 AM Good #'s... My 1/8 mile is the same as your but my trap is almost 3 mph slower?? Wonder why?
Are you talking about your TBSS? Two totally different vehicles. I'm sure the weight difference and 4 speed tranny have something to do with the difference from 1/8 to 1/4.
mikeT 08-05-2008, 09:53 AM Nice times man!!!!!!! I can't wait till my track down here gets finished with the remodel!! Freeze the intake!!! FTW!

No im talking my srt-8.... my TBSS is much faster.... if it was running :(

You might just have a weak Jeep. There have been a lot of different times between stock trucks, some are built great, others not so...who knows?! Poor TBSS, hope it gets fixed soon whatever is wrong!

Nothing is to wrong... just getting more displacement :) I think I need a better tune on the Jeep... who knows... It just suprises me that im pulling such good 1/8 mile and falling off on the top end?
CentralTexHemi 08-05-2008, 11:45 AM Do you have a wideband on the Jeep?
ajharman 08-05-2008, 11:47 AM Working on it wade lol
CentralTexHemi 08-05-2008, 12:23 PM Not you silly TBSS

More displacement is good! Hmmm, sounds wierd about the Jeep!
Not you silly TBSS
Haha,
Silly f^gg0t, d!cks are for chicks!!!!
Do you have a wideband on the Jeep?
No but I am trying to get some dyno time when the temps come down in September.
Blown-WK 08-05-2008, 04:23 PM What did you run and what was the trap speed?
I will look for a time slip tonight... I found one last night but I think its from my TBSS... the local track does not put what type of car on the slip so its hard to remeber whats what :)
CentralTexHemi 08-05-2008, 04:47 PM Well if your TBSS is so much faster than the Jeep look at the bottom for the time that should tell you what vehicle it was-LOL
Matt McKenzie 08-07-2008, 09:59 AM Okay, I just got the link to the video my friend made. I do not know how it looks since I am at work and cannot watch it, but I will post it anyway. The 12.79 run is when I am on the farside going against a white Honda, enjoy and let me know what you think:

Was it an edited video, did it have two runs in there...one where I launched crazy on a green civic with NOS, and the 12.79 run??? I wanna watch so bad. Some one download the video and put it on streetfire, hahaha!
ajharman 08-07-2008, 10:15 AM Nice vids matt. You launch out of the hole so hard. You brake stall correct? Maybe that is the key to 12's for me...
mikeT 08-07-2008, 10:22 AM nice video....he edited it and everything...good job!
Matt McKenzie 08-07-2008, 10:23 AM Thanks for letting me know mike! Yeah Tony, I brake stall between 1500 and 2000.
Jeep Trick 08-07-2008, 10:25 AM Why gotta pick on the rice??? No V8's there?

ajharman 08-07-2008, 10:28 AM Yea the vid was great. He had picture of you icing "THE BEAST" haha. I will try some brake stall. You got really nice 60' times. maybe that is why :thinkerg:
Matt McKenzie 08-07-2008, 10:30 AM Actually it was an import only day (4/6 cyl). But a buddy of mine who owns a shop in that area told them I drove from Upstate NY to run. So they let me do run only, I couldn't be in a class or do brackett racing. I ran 7 times and won all of them. Closest was like a high 13.

Awesome runs Matt! Too bad there was no real competition next to you.
I can just imagine those guys reaction in the honda's after you took off... WTF was that...
I liked the video editing too.
Matt McKenzie 08-07-2008, 01:38 PM Haha....they had some sick imports there that day, and a lot I wanted to race...a couple STI's and some 12 second cars...but they were all in classes, so I couldn't run them. My friends in the crowd said there was a lot of comotion in the stands after my very first run...after that, everyone came running to see me whenever I was up...felt great!!!
I have to check the vid out when I get home, I can't see it at work....glad to hear the editing is good!
