Mrdredd 11-23-2006, 05:40 PM 5th day of ownership, already got 550 miles on it.
Debadged her 2-3 days ago, looking to make her totally "jeep free".

Street WK 11-23-2006, 05:46 PM looks nice. ill trade :)
Rick SRT 8 11-23-2006, 06:32 PM Looks nice and I'm planning also on removing the badges.
Mrdredd 11-23-2006, 06:40 PM It was easy ... I just slid a business card behind them and got them up ...
PorscheSRT8 11-23-2006, 07:20 PM Looks good but I would keep the badges so that you can put them back when you sell or trade down the road. Otherwise you may get a lot of suspicion. I had my Cayenne debadged from the factory and still got a lot of questions about it (most people don't get it).
Ink Pump 11-23-2006, 07:45 PM It was easy ... I just slid a business card behind them and got them up ...
Was it really that easy? Are they glued? Did you need solvent to get the residue of the paint? It looks great - I'd love to get my badges off but don't want to mess up the paint
Mrdredd 11-23-2006, 10:02 PM Yup ... just that easy ... no residue at all ... was surprised at how ****ty they are glued on there.
I first started by sliding a business card in a little bit and using a flat head screw driver against the biz card to not scratch the paint, then tried just sliding it behind the letters and it worked.
Yup-- all of my badges (including the SRT badge) came off immediately upon purchase. If you get them off right away, they are a piece of cake. The longer you wait to remove them, the more time the tape has to cure.
Ink Pump 11-24-2006, 01:13 PM Ok Guys - I tried this at lunch time - and several crumpled business later - the badges are still on
I'm going to upgrade the tools to a credit card and try again tomorrow when I have more time.
If that doesn't work perhaps I can persuade MrDred to send me his business card or better still drive to Erie and help me out:D
This vehicle is 6 weeks old. That's not enough time for the tape to cure surely!

Any place named Erie in the US is probably pretty cold today....you need a bit of heat...Get the hairdryer when you get home, or even put some kind of lightbulb near it and warm it up. If warm enough, you can even rock the letters back and forth till they start to break loose.... Or try the dental floss or fishing line. Once started, just get a fingernail under there and keep at it.
You're not going to hurt anything. Little rubbing alcohol or wax and adhesive remover and you're good to go.
Yeah.... I used a heat gun.
Mrdredd 11-24-2006, 02:09 PM Just try what I did at first ... slide a biz card in there juts a tiny bit, then use a flat head screw driver and pry it upwards ... that should pop it up .. and you wont scratch the paint
It was pretty cold out when I did it ... about 40 degrees
Ink Pump 11-24-2006, 09:18 PM OK I've got a laser torch from work and a sharp chisel.
I've rented a jack hammer just in case
The "JEEPS" are coming off tomorrow one way or another
I'll let you know
Ink Pump 11-25-2006, 11:47 AM I panicked after I removed some letters and put them back in a hurry:D Thanks for your help. As you say they came off a little too easily

SilverSRT-8 11-26-2006, 02:59 PM I used a heat gun (you could use a blow dryer) heat them up and they just pop off.
SUPERFLYSRT8 11-26-2006, 10:03 PM If you can get your hands on a plasma cutter, a welder(tig), a small piece of sheet metal, a pint of primer, paint and clearcoat, It's Easy!:D
OH!!! Wait a minute! Don't forget the bodydope:D
Inferno SRT8 11-27-2006, 04:38 PM The longer you leave them on the harder it will be to remove them, and if the sun has baked them a few times its gonna be much worse.
Pepe's 11-30-2006, 04:43 PM A very easy way to debadge is to use dental floss. I did with mine & worked fine.
Jeep City 07 11-30-2006, 05:21 PM Looks good hey GE 2 what kind of wheels are those they look good
idealrides 12-01-2006, 11:02 AM for sure, dental floss is the best way to do it.
I put one of my spare emblems on the front of my computer case, keeps the advesive clean and you can put it back on the car fairly easily.

Ok, I have to ask....I am old and not with it evidently. WHat is the reasoning to take off the Jeep Emblems? Its not like anyone will not recognize it as a Jeep....Its a Boxy Jeep, with a different fascia and rear. But, each to his own I suppose.
Ink Pump 12-01-2006, 01:20 PM I've been surprised at how many people DO NOT recognize it as a Jeep. I've certainly got nothing against Jeep and in fact the letter style they use is quite nice. There just seems to something fun about lending it an "air of mistique"
Also the lines look a little cleaner.
Another small benefit is cleaning - I was already sick of cleaning around the Jeep letters. As you say to each his own.:D
I personally take off all emblems just because I like the clean look, and also because trying to keep the insides of the e's clean over the long haul is difficult to say the least.
Also, the wheels are Davin Speed SP2.
Sobert 12-02-2006, 09:17 PM Two words - Dental Floss.... works like a charm.
TurboWill 01-11-2007, 06:29 AM I love the way it looks! black is growing on me
OurZoo 01-11-2007, 08:06 AM Looks great, gonna be removing the Jeeps this weekend myself. What do you guys think about adding the Hemi badge from the side of the Charger? I was planning on putting on the back of the GC on the opposing side of the SRT8? I think its strange we got a Hemi in our rides and nothing to show for it. When I do it, I'll post pics and you can post your comments.
kramsay1234 01-11-2007, 08:32 AM My thoughts are that the SRT8 badge says enough. If people don't know what that means, no need for us to tell them. Clean looks good.
I got mine with the stupid dealer badge on the back (forgot to tell them not to) plus a dealer license plate frame. They may as well just put a full vinyl wrap on my truck with the dealership logo.
All this is coming off this week. Hair dryer, dental floss, business cards, credit cards - whatever it takes.
And everyone is right - ge2's rims are nice! :)

kramsay1234 01-11-2007, 07:01 PM Just took mine off. And I have 2 words of advice - Heat Gun (or Hair Dryer). I have had my Jeep about 2 1/2 weeks.
It is in my underground parking garage and its about 35 degrees down there right now and there are no power outlets in sight. I used some hot water to heat the letters up, and then started with a piece of dental floss to remove the "J" on the back. Came right off - Piece of cake! Then the fun started. Many pieces of broken dental floss later, I had to move to a credit card. But this was the answer. (No business cards in the world would have taken those off - I think he meant credit card)
They come off pretty easy once you get under them and there is no residue left at all.
I you have any dealer badges, get them off ASAP. Now I have to deal with the big strip of adhesive tape stuck to my rear hatch from the dealer badge. Hopefully some Goo-Gone will work tomorrow.
I know better because with a heat gun it would have been no problem. But once I started, I couldn't stop until they were all off.

Goo gone, or WD40 works great too.
OurZoo 01-11-2007, 10:19 PM Pulled 'em off tonight. Took all of 15minutes to do. Tools: Business card, Screwdriver, Goo Gone, Mcguiars Quick Detail, and 2 Washcloths.
negrojeep 01-11-2007, 11:22 PM looks great, will do the same to mine. One unrelated question, I'm planning to add a Mopar/Corsa exaust and a Mopar CAI, will this void my warranty?
kramsay1234 01-11-2007, 11:24 PM Just went down to check it out again and yep, its looks clean and mean :D
Will try the Goo Gone tomorrow for my dealer badge residue and other wise WD-40. I have never put that on paint before, but if need be, will give it a whirl. Then a little quick detailer.

Are you asking if debadging will void your warranty, or if adding the Mopar parts will?
I don't believe either will ... Debadging definently wont.
Mopar aftermarket performance parts are sold through Daimler as official upgrades, they won't void it either AFAIK.
No-- adding a cai and exhaust will not harm your warranty. Be sure they are installed correctly, none-the-less.
kramsay1234 01-15-2007, 11:04 PM I just got back from being away for a few days and was catching up on some old threads. My reply really makes it sound like he was asking if debadging will void the warranty. I can't stop laughing...
