Butt dynos don't count.
When and engine sounds better, it feels faster. Just like good smelling food tastes better.

I call big fat BS here. I've always respected Team SRT's comments and expect them to be honest, but this statment is complete garbage. I've had a custom system done on my GC SRT-8 with Magnaflows and x-pipe, and posted the before and after dyno's. The ONLY difference was the outside temp (which was about 18 degrees cooler for the second run), and I saw an average of 14hp and 14tq difference in gears 2 & 3.

This was an obvious attempt to persuade people against buying aftermarket products and wait for the Mopar version. I'm sure the stock exhaust system is restricted for noise and emmision restriction reasons, and that results in hp & tq loss. Very disappointing, but I gues you can't blame them.
See my results below:

2nd Gear:
- Max total tq = stock 329.81; w/custom exhaust 343.21
- Max total hp = stock 342.06; w/custom exhaust 355.50

3rd Gear:
- Max total tq = stock 346.07; w/custom exhaust 360.41
- Max total hp = stock 348.99; w/custom exhaust 363.29

No suprise... Kind of like "we stand behind our products". They stand behind them so well that they carry no warranty and DCX puts a restriction on your warranty when you put on Mopar Performance Parts. I still don't understand what the point is anymore of getting stuff through Mopar Performance.

I'm on the Zoomers Cat Back Exhaust list but tomorrow will remove the muffler and replace it with the Magnaflow 3" dual in / out with built in x-pipe for under $250. The DS inlet/outlet pipes are real blue in color (running real lean). The Custom Muffler Shop says the factory muffler is the biggest restriction in the exhaust system. (internal baffles that restrict the flow) His wifes Surburbans muffler was also changed to this muffler, results 2 more mpg on fuel mileage, so,"the end justifies the means" I may later change the resonators and install their oval SS tips. All for under $600! I'll see what this does to my track times. Gene

Yes, I am the one who was involved in that discussion, and I have always seen better milage and more HP from an aftermarket exhaust. I wasn't going to start an argument with them.

As long as well can all see through it I don't mind.Corporate politics,we all hate them.megaSRT 8 can you point me in the right direction to get your exaust.I just picked up my Jeep this afternoon and would like to start throwing on mods ASAP.I am also in the market for a sealed cool air intake if you know where I can pick one up.I just received the ESP eliminator and the fan switch the other day,Should have that hooked up after the weekend. Will let you know how it works.

The exhaust is a similar dilemma, several companies have one in the works, I'll wait & see how it all plays out; Zoomers, Magnaflow, Corsa, Borla etc.

Agreed on the intake. It is a very good set-up right from the factory, and sticking a CAI would yield very minimal gains. Wait till one is available where the intake unit is outside of the engine compartment.

As for the exhaust, the mufflers/resonators will just change the sound. I used Magnaflow because 1) they can withstand high revs w/o cracking, and 2) the guy who did my install get's them for real cheap.

Streamlining the exhaust sytem is the key. If you know a good custom shop, you don't need to buy the whole system from those companies - you'll save a good $500.
I had an x-pipe done from the cats, and two sets of resonators on each line - this helps reduce the drone effect. We first tried with one on each side, but it was too loud and had a bad drone. To keep the cost down, he kept some of the original pipes. Total cost = $650

I did the front muffler change and love it, instant performance change and quieter than stock. The factory air box is very restrictive as any completely sealed units, it only has an inlet to draw air from in front of the core support as a good item. An open CAI system is far better for sure and drawing air from out of the engine compartment is the icing on the cake. I'll have one like this very soon. How much HP gain? Maybe 5 to 8 hp? However a PCM mod along with some other changes will wake this engine up a lot. I beleive the factory runs this engine fat on the fuel curve, adding a CAI, and a better flowing exhaust will help but the full advantage will come with the PCM mod. DCX has a least two PCMs that makes big HP but won't release them and the traction control cut out switch they designed! Why? Maybe Warranty? Who knows? I beleive at least 500 hp at the flywheel is possible with just bolt on! Maybe More! MHO Gene:D

SRT ENgineering Team : Please let me know if anything is being done about the following:

I have almost 3000 miles on my SRT8. Last Friday I had two Technical Service Bulletins addressed at the dealer: One was to have vibration isolation washers installed (I believe on the Tranny) and the other was to have the transmission computer updated. The driveline whining is significantly reduced. However, after the car shifts to second gear it will not kickdown to first gear and performance suffers since the car is pulling in second gear from low speeds. After the update, the car also expeienced a few harsh second gear shifts resulting in a very unsatsifying clunk. SRT Engineering team please look into these problems. I prefer the original shift profile and would live with the whine if it won't cause any damage.

The washers don't stop the vibration at all, a muffler change will though, transmission computer change? Mine does this; not down shifting sometimes problem but the computer hasn't been changed, a flair in the 2-3 shift does happen sometimes. (probably a governor related problem?) I'm going to wait until some for sure fixes are done not guess-work ones? (I don't like dealer fixes at all but will have them do some on the tranny shifts though, later) I can live with these glitches for now? MHO Gene:confused:
