: There is a fix that makes the transmission downshift better!
SRT8fan2 11-21-2006, 12:06 PM I took my '06 to the dealer and told them that "the trans does not downshift when accelerating hard from 35MPH". The dealer "found PCM software update, performed flash update on PCM".
Now the transmission is dramatically better, it is very responsive to movements of the accelerator pedal. This is a huge improvement for me.
I hope this helps.
shodanusmc 11-21-2006, 12:42 PM I have an 07 and have that problem. I will talk to them. Thanks

Did you get a TSB# or Software Version or something to reference to when my dumb ass service guy tells me there is no fix for that particular problem. I need to find a better Service Dept. If anyone knows a quality Service Dept. in the Cleveland/Akron/Youngstown/Toledo vacinity please let me know. Thanks!
SRT8fan2 11-21-2006, 03:43 PM I do not think there is a TSB yet, and I did not get a software version, sorry.
I will ask the dealer next week when I go back and if I get a software version or some other unique ID I will post it here.
You could also try printing out my post and taking it in as evidence that the fix does exist?

LOL, I feel your pain brother I feel your pain!! :( If I didn't know you were from Ohio I'd think you were talking about my dealership :D
Mrdredd 11-21-2006, 08:28 PM well, whats the name and number of the guy at your dealership so our dealerships can call and get the info?
SRT8fan2 11-22-2006, 11:42 AM OK. I just called the service guy that I dealt with and he said he does not want me to post his name and number - and I don't want to get him angry at me for obvious reasons. I then asked him for a software version number for the flash update and he said it was a TSB.
I then asked him for the TSB number and he said he did not know it and he would not get it for me. I will try again to get the number/ID when I am there in person. I am not convinced that he is right in saying there is a TSB - from the dialog I had with him before and from the service tech notes it seems that they knew of a PCM flash update, but it does not mention a TSB.
That's all I can do for now.

This is why many of us have a problem with DCX and it's dealers. They shouldn't withhold that kind of infomation from their customers.

Ditto. you are exactly right bro. Problem is no one wants to take any responsibility these days. Their motto is - If it ain't broke don't fix it - If it is broke don't fix it - or we'll fix it for a unreasonable amount of money. We shouldn't have to fish for this info. Am I going to have to hire a P.I. to get me this damn fix!
barho 11-22-2006, 01:27 PM I know this has been posted somewhere here before, but for the new members this link shows ALL TSBs for the WK GC including the SRT 8. ENJOY :D
And BTW, the TSB you are looking for does not currently exist.

Absolutely! Go to frederickdodge.com to see the Frederick Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge web site. They are in Boardman, Ohio, just south of Youngstown on Route 7. (Sorry, I can't post a link...this is my first post here and the software won't let me post the address as a link. Just add the "www" in front of the domain name.)
I have dealt with these guys for over 30 years and they are tops. They are also a PERFORMANCE ORIENTED dealer, with Vipers, 300C's, Chargers, Magnums, Hemi Rams and all the other "hot" stuff on the lot. They were racing 426 HEMI's at the local strips here back in the 60's. The owner, Bob Fredericks, has a VERY nice collection of MOPAR muscle cars from the 60's.
SRT8fan2 11-23-2006, 12:01 PM Here is a suggestion from a guy on a sister forum about how to track down the updated version number (I am not sure what the difference is between PCM and TCM, presumably they refer to the same controller, since they seem to used interchangeably). He was able to get the same fix that I got.
Hope this helps.
"The dealers Parts Dept should be able to look up all the TCM versions, they checked mine and found this version. Replaced it and fixed my problems. I have been told the re-flash is available now and wasn't whenever mine was worked on. Try this route?"

all right; what does TSB, PCM, and TCM stand for. i am right around the corner from picking up my 07 and from the sound of it i will most likely be going into the dealership for service for the same things. so a little help,PLEASE!
timster 11-23-2006, 07:51 PM I have a 2007 and have had no problems at all with my transmission. Of course, I have only had it since last week Saturday...
TSB = Technical Service Bulletin
PCM = Power Control Module (controls the engine)
TCM = Transmission Control Module

its not that big of a problem, you would only notice if you were driving aggressivly all the time
timster 11-24-2006, 08:49 AM its not that big of a problem, you would only notice if you were driving aggressivly all the time
What should I be looking for? I drive semi-aggressively - mainly on the freeway - some wide-open throttle action, but nothing outrageous - especially when getting off of the on-ramp, and sometimes from 65 to 100 MPH, for some short bursts of speed.
Anyways, I guess what you're saying is that your average joe SRT8 owner wouldn't notice anything?
Goldengreek5 11-24-2006, 09:31 AM Drive at 20-25 mph, stomp on the gas, it wont downshift to 1st.
SRT8fan2 11-24-2006, 06:51 PM Just to clarify, although I have the fix, and my trans is now much better at making downshifts when I put my foot down at low and medium speeds, it still does not downshift into first gear.
FastJeepSRT8 11-25-2006, 12:13 AM its not that big of a problem, you would only notice if you were driving aggressivly all the time
Is there any other way to drive the SRT8? :D
My trans problems didn't show up right away in my '07 and I don't think my problems have been as severe or as frquent as in the '06 models. The shift hesitation didn't show up for about a month and it's never wanted to shift at lower speeds into 1st when I nail it. I'll usually tap shift down when that happens.
whipple1 11-26-2006, 04:40 AM I noticed that when I first picked it up,when driving slow then when you womp on it it stays in that gear (3rd or 4th) it doesnt go into a kickdown gear:confused:.If anyone knows the tsb for the fix please reply.I will call my dealer and see what they say,If I find any info I will post it.
timster 11-26-2006, 06:06 AM Seems like I do not have this probelm yet. My 2007 always seems to downshift.
One question, how fast can the SRT8 go in 1st before being limited. I was in manual mode this morning - fooling around - and got 1st up close to 6000 RPM, but it didn't seem like I was going very fast. I was testing to see if the truck would automatically shift when it approached max revs. I wasn't looking at the speedometer, but I don't think I was past about 40 MPH. I wonder if the gearing in my truck is a bit different than others - I read somewhere that the GC SRT8 could do 0-60 in 1st - and that's one of the reasons why it's able to do it in less than 5 sec

The Cherokee def doesnt do 0-60 in first. 2nd gets to about 60-65 maybe. Also the Jeep wont upshift automatically in autostick mode. It'll hit the limiter, cut power, and the tach will bounce aroound.
