: 400hp GTO's...any stats?

I came across one of the new 400hp GTO's tonight. I got his attention right away when I passed him. Traffic was so heavy though we never had a chance to hook up. This guy was ripe too, you could tell he was dying to take a crack at my SRT8. I've tried to find some stats for these things and have found nothing. Given the weight, torque and horsepower they should be able to give the JGC Srt8 a good run. Anyone tangle with one of these things yet?

Update: Just found a link for a time slip for what appears to be a stock GTO. Ran 12.9 1/4 couldn't find a 0-60. Pretty impressive, if they hook well they could give our SRT's some trouble. Here's the link.

Thanks for the links. Quite a variety with the 0-60 times. It's also not consistant with the timeslip I found. I guess I'll just have to race one and find out for myself! :)

From what I read on the GTO forum, I think my jeep will smoke my GTO from 0-60, but the GTO will pass the jeep before the end of the quarter mile.

However, I don't mind which one is faster because they are both so awesome and so much fun to drive.

I have read "kills" where sometimes a GTO wins, sometimes an SRT wins.

Both are great examples of Americal Muscle.

The GTO is REALLY hard to hook up off the line - tire spin, wheel hop, etc.

I raced a GTO this last weekend with 500 miles on the Jeep and 4 people in the car!! I don't believe it was the LS2 400hp one, but 4 people in the car, new subwoofer system, 3/4 tank of gas and he jumped first from the line! I power braked it and it started breaking loose, so he jumped and then I almost instantly put 3 or 4 cars on him! It took him to 110 to get to my door

Damn I love this Jeep!!

PS - I found him 2 days later with just me in the Jeep and from a 40 roll I pulled about 3 cars on him till we had to shut it down at 70! Needless to say I couldn't get him to race me anymore :D

.....I don't believe it was the LS2 400hp one

Usually the 350 HP (2004) has no hood scoops and only a single exhaust.

Nice kill, BTW.

Hey this is some great feedback I really appreciate it, especially coming from someone who owns both vehicles. I didn't care much for the GTO when it first came back out, since I have such addoration for the original. It kind of reminds me of a beefed up Cavalier. The new '06's are nice though and with some real HP now and better handling capability they're really starting to grow on me. The one I saw was red with the hood scoops and twin pipes out the back. I can imagine they would have hook problems which is what I'm counting on if I ever get the chance to run one of these things. It is nice to see "American Muscle" making a comeback. Who ever thought that a Jeep would be part of the comeback! ;) :D

unless it's an experienced driver i wouldn't worry about it, and then you'll still probably edge them out 0-60

I sold my '05 GTO (6.0) to get my Jeep SRT8.

From a stop, the Jeep kills the GTO because of traction, launching, etc.

From higher speeds, I feel like my GTO was way quicker. It had intake, exhaust and a tune though.

They are both awesome vehicles.

Two kinds of GTO exist (which is why there is a big swing in performance figures)...

2004 - LS1 GTO, 37xxlbs 350hp - 13.4 ~ 13.5 1/4 with 105ish trap speeds.

2005-2006 - LS2 GTO, 37xxlbs 400hp - 12.9 ~ 13.2 @ 107ish trap speeds.

A well driven LS2 GTO would be a good race for an SRT8 with a huge advantage to the SRT8 off the line and the advantage to the GTO from a roll.

Cheers. :)

Here is a slip from my friends 06 Automatic GTO (with a predator tune as his only mod)
For reference my car was running 13.1 ~ 13.2 all day that day. (100DA)

This past sunday I raced two different GTO's. Both 400 HP 2006 versions. I beat both by about 2-3 car lengths. Only running 1/8 mile on a airport runway.

I talked to my friend, he has a intake and catback system. Told me he couldn't get it to hook up at all. Which he said is a problem at most red lights also.

I came across a GTO yesterday on the expressway (his territory for sure) in Chambersburg, PA. He punched it on the on-ramp and probably accelerated up to 90 mph or so before he entered the expressway. Less than a mile later as I got near him we both exited and hit heavy traffic, so there was no chance of a race. :(

Has no scoop but dual exhaust both pipes just run together and come out the same side. I might not know this, but my son in law has one. Can out run him now, but the 560 hp motor is going in now. Helped him take the LS1 out, which is for sale now.

A few weeks ago I posted about a GTO I met up with when I was driving back from Arizona. I figured I must of went up against the 350 HP 5.7, since I took it from a 70-120 sprint. However, the one I raced had "GTO" recessed in the rear bumper, hood scoops, and dual exhaust--so I guess this means it was the 400 HP 6.0. SWEET!

I would of been content with it having been a 5.7, so now I'm really proud. :)

Not exactly...you could get the dual exhaust and snorkeled hood for the LS1 car...in fact I see it often around here...the badges on the car will say 5.7L or 6.0L though.

Or like my son in law 560 hp in a stock looking silver 2004.

I own both, 2005 GTO and 2007 Jeep SRT8. The SRT8 will beat a stock GTO with no problem. The GTO is much harder to hook up due to the independent rear suspension. A couple weeks ago, I saw a 2005 GTO with headers, exhaust and a tune, run 8.15 in the 1/8. He said he did not let up off the gas while shifting gears. I like my GTO, but the SRT8 is more fun to drive.

At least it was highly unlikely that it was a V6? :D
