: Nav brightness ... doesnt dim at night?? totally sucks ...
Mrdredd 11-18-2006, 08:46 AM Was driving last night and noticed that the Navigation lighting doesnt dim, or use dark shades of color to dim the screen ... and i couldnt find any option to change it either.
Its a pain in the ass while driving ... it 1) hurts my eyes, 2) hurts my focus on the road 3) pain in the ass ..
Why doesnt it dim during night time / or when your lights are on?

Thougth the same thing at first. Turn the headlights on and simply turn the dim/brightness knob located on the turn signal stalk to I believe it is the next to the last position. As you and I both found out, it is WAY to bright at night if you don't use this setting. You can do it in daylight and still see the difference right away.
MNBob 11-18-2006, 10:56 AM This is great info; thanks teda!
I have been going into Nav->System Settings->Brightness and changing manual mode from night to day and back. I wondered how the automatic mode listed there worked.
I also looked this up in the manual and it mentions the automatic mode, but does not explain how it works.
Mrdredd 11-18-2006, 10:12 PM but doesnt that make it manual? i have to manually change it at night with the bright/dim stalk wheel?
How do I make:
1) the lights come on automatically at night
2) the nav brightness dim at night / or when the lights are on
I basically want a 100% hands-off lighting solution, how do i get it to work like that?

A1) Turn you light switch to "A" for automatic. If you have it pulled out for the fog lights, they will too only come on when the auto lights come on.
A2) If the NAV is set to auto like mine, at night it will be dim, during the day it will be brighter.
If that doesn't work for you, you could always get a 3rd party lighting system for your Jeep.
2MCHPSI 11-18-2006, 11:14 PM Check the dimmer on the stalk. The fullest setting (spin stalk dial towards front of vehicle) will have everything bright as can be, AND have the interior lights on. The next setting lowest (turn dial towards driver) from that will dim your gauge cluster, BUT it will leave your ODOMETER and RADIO on full bright. One more click down from that should let your Radio and Odo dim with the automatic lights.
Hope that helps.

Like I said, I think it may be next to last position. Try the position like Luan says a few posts down. That is 100% hands off. It works.
Oh...and I don't use automatic at all....
Mrdredd 11-19-2006, 05:43 AM K, got it configured like you guys said, will test tonight.
Thanks.
Why dont you use automatic?
shodanusmc 11-19-2006, 09:34 AM I have my NAV set to Automatic....under settings....great during the day, dims at night when the lights go on...automatically.
I have my NAV set to Automatic....under settings....great during the day, dims at night when the lights go on...automatically.
Mine is set to automatic in settings also....However, if stalk knob is not in proper position, automatic in settings does nothing. Has to be manually reset each time selecting brightness level. Dealer could not get it to work as you describe either.
Weird, huh?
saywhat 11-19-2006, 09:14 PM This has always made me nuts sence I bought the car and I just walked outside and tried it and and it works great!! any ideas on how to turn off the warning screen that comes on everytime you turn on or off the car?
Mrdredd 11-19-2006, 09:18 PM Cant bypass that without editing the software ... its in their to protect the manufct. from liability
I want to know how to get rid of the warning AND the Jeep logo when you first turn on the Nav ... im working on completely debadging the car of its Jeep logos.
