: THE RUNNING OF THE JGCSRT8s
BOB WISNER 07-13-2008, 07:27 PM First of all, anyone who dosn't like us driving our Jeeps the way they were meant to be driven shouldn't read this. On with the story. The morning starts off with a kick ass Cars and Coffee. Eight Jeeps show up to represent So Cal. At about 9:00 A.M. we jump in the Jeeps and start heading up the 5 freeway, all of us in a row. From my rear view mirror all I see is JGCSRT8s. What a sight! As we merge onto the 55, one Jeep peels off and heads home. This is were all hell breaks loose! As I look in my rear view again, I tell my wife to look at the car pool lane as three Jeeps go flying by me like I'm standing still. Mind you I'm already doing 80 mph. IT'S ON! I get it up to 120 mph when my human govenor kicks in, aka my wife. I've got three Jeeps staying with me at 120, but the other three are gone. Other drivers on the freeway must of thought they were seeing things seeing not one but six Jeeps fly by them like they were standing still. When we got back to my pad, I found out the first three Jeeps were doing 150 mph. DAMN Lyle, you crazy! Needless to say, we had some great conversation as we sat around, had a few beers, and some good bergers thanks to my wife. Thanks to everyone who showed up, and to those who didn't, YOU MISSED OUT.
p.s. I stole the title from Drew.
Crookster777 07-13-2008, 07:30 PM That must have been a pretty sight. Nice.
Jeep Trick 07-13-2008, 07:34 PM Gotta love that...
Too bad I'm East Coast or I would have been there.
DevssrT 07-13-2008, 07:37 PM That sounds awesome!....too bad no pics at 120 MPH lol!
Blown-WK 07-13-2008, 07:58 PM NICE, of course this happenes the week after I leave:o
1BAMFR 07-13-2008, 08:02 PM That sounds awesome!!! Would have love to have been blown by, by six beasts
navyavi469 07-13-2008, 09:10 PM I've found that Jeep owners seem to have good times whenever there is a get together.... interesting demographic of people.
The vette crowd is always a bunch of gray-haired retired guys bucking for political position in the "who knows who of 65+ world". The ricer crowd and pony domestics (stands and F bodys) are always a hodgepodge of young kids and punks mixed with late 20's dudes living in their mom's basement.
But the Jeep crowd is always a good time :D

First of all...........our Jeeps were not made to driven on public roads with other people present at 120-150 mph or at any speed over the limit. Second, don't you think its kind of stupid to brag about it on a public forum. I guess thats to be expected from someone that would put his own wifes life and the lifes of others in danger. Way to represent.

I'm sure the guy's had everything under control. The lanes they were in are limited access. I've been to 160 a few times myself :D It sounds like your "governor" is between your legs  Grow some balls and try going over 55... But if you don't want to go over 55 that's great, more power to ya (sorry, bad choice of words)

1st...try reading the beginning of the message...! No one wants to hear your whinning Rick G!! If the U.S. makes cars that can go that fast, why the hell do people act all suprized when people go that fast???? See...I go that fast every day with my wife and kids in the car....but, I live in Germany...SO...becauses its legal...its O.k. RIGHT??? WRONG...I dont go that fast with my kids in the car but I'm trying to make a point. The US has limits on things that people can buy with NO LIMITS...! Does that make sense. I feel sorry for my brothers and sisters who own this marvel of a machine and cant enjoy it like i can. He is going 120-150MPH and you jump on is @ss because of a "speed limit". I go that speed and faster every day...but its legal where I leave. Does that make me any more crazy than him???? WHAT IS CRAZY...is people who try to go that fast in traffic OR people who try to drive cars that are not made for that speed. Lucky the jeep is made for it....whether you think so are not.

navyavi469 07-14-2008, 08:16 AM Speed limits are set based on the abilities of the average driver (stupid american-idol watching chic putting her makeup on and talking on her cell), driving the average car (1999 honda civic), under average road conditions. These assumptions go into actual emperical computations derived by civil engineers, **hey I was a C.E. major :D**
The equations take into consideration type of road, such as limited access or divided highway, as well as maximum horizontal and vertical curve radius, surface material, shoulder width, estimated peak traffic volumes, #of lanes, and line-of-sight visibility. They hash all this out and come up with a number. On an interstate its usually like 110mph. Why so high you may ask??!! Well if it is an original stretch of interstate built between the 50's and 70's, you may see a little sign that says "Eisenhower Intersate System" every now and again. The interstate was originally modelled and designed after the German Autobahn that soldier's saw at the end of WWII, and the original purpose of the American Interstate was also that of the German's.. efficient routes of military transportation as part of the defense network. The curves on the Eisenhower system are typically 120+mph curves, and every 1 miles out of 10 had to be a straight and unimpded section of road to serve as a contingent runway for aircraft.
BUT, with all this in mind, regardless of the number derived from the engineer, the LOCAL jurisdiction, i.e. state, county, city, town council, rotary club, dog lover's fan club etc.. are the ones who "set" their omnipotent speed limit in their little neck of the woods. It is not based on any sort of logical forumla, nor does it take into considerations the averageness of the above criteria, its simply what they think it ought to be, and of course the cops use it to generate revenue for the jurisdiction via speeding tickets.
So... depending on what stretch of road you're talking about and since a Jeep is no average vehicle, and you're no average driver, YES, you ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to safely go 120+ down the freeway.
Just my .02

I guess that means us 275/315 tire guys shouldn't go over 25mph or the tires might fly off and kill pedestrians:D

not to burst your bubble but..... if anybody wants to drive that fast... get a freakin race car and do it on the track not on the street!!!! just because its ment to go that fast does not mean you have to drive reckless on the streets with innocent people and put their lives in danger.... look, im 16 and even i think its stupid to go that fast... i had a race car and wrecked so yes i do know what it feels like to hit the wall and bruise yourself up!!! the beast is fast as hell...yes, but even when i get behind the wheel, i try to take care of my dad's stuff and never try to go over the speed limit and put people in danger!!! im not afraid of speed, speed is meant for the track and the track ONLY!!!! when you make a little mistake at those speeds, you have a 25% chance of survivng... the beast does NOT have the speed-safe options and gear that a race car does!!! if you want to drive as fast as you can, get a race car!!! if this doesnt mean anything to you, well....... i dont know what will!!!
navyavi469 07-14-2008, 09:19 AM This clichee argument is old as dirt on any car forum, lets stop beating the dead horse.
barho 07-14-2008, 10:45 AM When I still had my Jeep, I ONCE got it up to 140. I can honestly say, it was a very STUPID idea. On our Interstate highways, in an urban area (from just looking at a map, I would say the instersection of 55 and I-5 in Santa Ana is an urban area) you should NOT be going such high rates of speed.
Yeah, you're in the HOV lanes, but what happens if someone doing, say 70 mph, turns into that lane not realizing that someone is charging up the lane going twice there speed? I'll tell you what happens.........fatalities. That would be like you rear ending someone at 50-80 mph.
It's sooooo cool that you guys were doing 120-150 mph on a highway that "is known to be crowded due to it being the primary free link from job centers in Irvine, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa to State Route 91, which leads to commuter communities of the Inland Empire and other places northeast of Orange County". :iamwithstupid:
BOB WISNER 07-14-2008, 10:57 AM Thanks for backing me up guys. I knew there would be a small minority that would *****. Thats Ok, this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion. The only thing I don't understand is why would anyone spend as much as we all have on a vehicle with the capability of the JGCSRT8 if they were never going to stretch it's legs? Do these people really have that much money to blow on an expensive suv that gets 12 mpg? Why not by a smart car and do 50 mph in the car pool lane.

You seem to know alot about our freeways, although yes the 55 is usually busy during the week, on weekends however it stays fairly empty, I am not justifying what we did was right, but please dont think we were going 150 in n out of traffic, we were prob. only up to that speed for a minute or so having a little fun, I think the speeding arqument is the worse though, I mean everyone who drives, does something unsafe prob everyday. Talking on the cell phone, reading the newspaper, texting, ect.. I just use my "stupid pass" speeding =)
99% of the time I am driving within the speed limits (easier on gas) but there are the moments that are just to good to pass up.
QuikWip1 07-14-2008, 11:44 AM You guys are much cooler to me now

You seem to have a good head on your shoulders for 16. Wish there were more like you. You are 1/2 right about fatalities though. Anything over 55mph has shown to have a 84% of fatality then under. Meaning...it does not matter if you go 55 or 155...you can kiss you "back side" good bye either way...according to the data.
One funny note, Germany has 74% less car mishaps than american drivers. This affect insurance rates not doubt but they have a higher death rate per mishap. Making my point above. By..also making my next point...just because you go fast, does not mean you get into accidents. If everyone is going that speed, its cool. I know the states arent like that but why else does someone buy a trunk like this? I bought it so I could go fast..."I WANT TO GO FAST MOMMA"!! AND...I do!
You guys are much cooler to me now

08srt8Calgary 07-14-2008, 01:06 PM When I read this last night I knew a few would chime in that more baby seals were going to be murdered due to your gross incompetence- and yup they all showed up. Why even bother typing? Rick- you dont feel retarded that there are several of your posts condemming all 315 user's to eternal damnation? What are you running now? Anyone who owns one of these things is going to goose it at one time or another, and Im sure the few making comments will have holy justification when it's them. Negative comments on speed or accelration is hypocritical.
No entering merging lanes, no conflicting traffic, and some good road is not putting anyones life at risk other than their own. You do 150 through my cul-de-sac an I would personally chase you down and rape you. Do it on an open freeway for a few minutes? Have fun (wish I was there)- hope you dont get a ticket.
Harrison@Stage6 07-14-2008, 01:23 PM RickG...... you've NEVER sped in your Jeep? At all? Whether or not you do 150 is one thing, but I can guess you have exceeded thr speed limit at some time. How fast have you had your Jeep up to Rick? I have been known to take my Jeep into triple digits MANY times..... but there are the right places here in town and the right times. Just like I'm sure these guys did. I'm sure they weren't doing it in 5pm traffic.
Jeep Trick 07-14-2008, 02:33 PM And another thought what happens if the institute the 55mph law again???
Are we all a danger to society going 70 when that was the speed limit before?
:thinkerg:
And who can determine what a safe speed is? I mean one speed for every one.
A Yugo and a Ferrari have the same speed limit?
ChrisWK 07-14-2008, 02:43 PM It sounds like a good story but video would have been better.

There our a couple of video's. I know OurZoo got one, although I little shaky, but still good none-the-less. Also I heard there was a Caliber video taping us from the carpool lane, hopefully they post it on a car site and not to the cops =P
EDIT: here is a link to the "Cars and Coffee" site, click the Irvine 7-12-08 meet there are some sick pictures of all the rides there.
Edit: I forgot to put the link, I am a dumbass---- http://www.carsandcoffee.info/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11

I was thinking the same thing. The main reason for the 55 mph law was to cut down on fuel consumption during the fuel crysis of the 70s. Our Jeeps are capable of making panic manouvers at a much higher rate of speed than the average vehicle. There is a reason our Jeeps are equiped with all wheel drive, Brembo brakes, high speed rated tires, traction control, etc. If you choose not to put yours to the test, that's your choice. And your waste of money. I choose to DRIVE mine. And yes, the traffic was light on a Saturday morning.

That Caliber was pre craziness.....
QWKSRT 07-14-2008, 06:12 PM I seriously wish I could have made it. I would have dumped 1/2 a tank in that run with Lyle at 150mph. Considering this site is dedicated to a Jeep (a man's truck) with a sick fast Mopar built motor, there are quite a few dudes here that evidentally wear womens pink thong panties. Since you whine and complain about speeding I can only assume you don't do the 0-60 flat out from a stoplight in roughly 4.8 seconds either (because that would be unsafe). This begs the question, WHY DO YOU OWN ONE?
ChadC 07-14-2008, 06:21 PM The Jeeps hardly got any respect there..did get some from a few genuinely interested folks.....most people had cr@p comments about them IMHO.....most were snide comments by guys with Porsche or corvette hats or shirts....things like"why did they let you guys in here", or "always gotta ad nitrous to help you go fast" and its was always in passing.....an under the breath comment.....dont like speeding? Buy a Hyundai. Sell the Jeep. People do stupid, or crazy things, thats the beauty of this country....freedom to choose. I wouldnt hesitate to run the Jeep against almost anything there....to shut up those old pecker woods(after Viagra)
Rick G 07-14-2008, 06:55 PM First of all, anyone who dosn't like us driving our Jeeps the way they were meant to be driven shouldn't read this.
This is a public forum. I read what I want to and respond to what I want to. If you don't want certain people reading it then don't post it. And do you honestly think driving the Jeep at those speeds and endangering innocent people's lives is the way the Jeep is meant to be driven? If so I sure hope you don't have kids because they will grow up to be dumbasses like yourself.
The only thing I don't understand is why would anyone spend as much as we all have on a vehicle with the capability of the JGCSRT8 if they were never going to stretch it's legs? Do these people really have that much money to blow on an expensive suv that gets 12 mpg?
Yes, we bought the Jeep mainly for its looks. We did not buy it to act like irresponsible idiots like some here.
Rick- you dont feel retarded that there are several of your posts condemming all 315 user's to eternal damnation?
No.

If you go back and reread the first post this danger to society had his wife in the car. She had to ask him to slow down! I guess she means nothing to him. He also mentions that there "were" other drivers on the Freeway.

You have to be kidding to bring up the Wiffy card!!!!!
My wife always wants me to slow down no matter how slow I'm going!!!!
This coming from a woman that has a wrecked more cars than me.
I drive faster with my old man (and I do mean faster) and I frequently ask him if I make him nervous when he rides with me. He says absolutely not!
When I drive fast I am very cautious, No radio,no phone to distract etc.
Remember that people that criticize others driving assume that everyone drives as bad as they do therefore feel its a danger to society!!!!!

BahnBlastR 07-14-2008, 11:28 PM Rick, does your Mother know that you are on her computer again? You're right, it is an open forum. That said, you also need to understand that your "Brutally Honest Opinions" have enough acid in their tone that it won't matter if you are right or wrong - you simply sound like a jerk. So on this forum, which is probably a lot like your life, you have no friends. The picture in your avatar is probably your neighbors Jeep. You get up at 0630 to deliver your newspapers on your Huffy so you can get back for that re-run of Leave it to Beaver.
I won't debate the speeding on public roads bit, we all make decisions we have to live with. I just hope no one puts other people at risk. As for your comment on why most people buy the SRT8 GC - For its looks? Nope. Bought it because it is a high-performance machine that I could drive in virtually any weather the way IT WAS ENGINEERED to be driven. Yeah, the autobahn rocked. And Rick, the Jeep was none the worse for wear for it - just like the MILLIONS of other cars that are driven on the autobahn every day. Oh, and LOTS of those cars drive fast too Rick. Its called good driving habits and preventative maintenance.
So put on your Spiderman pajamas and get out your Curious George book so your Mommy can tuck you in. She really needs to change the password on her PC so you can't surf...... Junior High is going to be all that you imagined. Hang in there. Way to represent Rick
Rick G 07-15-2008, 04:48 AM As for your comment on why most people buy the SRT8 GC - For its looks?
Pay attention jackass, I said "we" bought the Jeep for its looks meaning my wife and myself. I was not speaking of others. We did not buy it to beat the crap out of it.
Guess your still upset about this http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6408, huh?
And speaking of Mommies, yours is here right now frenching my ass. :p
Nabbs 07-15-2008, 06:44 AM Speed isn't what kills, rather, it is driving eratically (such as weaving in and out of lanes). What speed does do is multiply the injuries and increase the likelihood of a fatality IF you are in an accident. However, if you weave in and out of traffic your are much more likely to hit someone/thing at 40mph then if you are driving straight and true at 120mph. For that matter, somebody who drives the speed limit in the left lane and backs up traffic requiring "dynamic manuvering" is much more likely to cause an accident that me doing 100mph on a one-way three lane straight away on the Saw Mill every morning :D

the first part is true but im a race car driver and its just not right to do that even if its legal for you might not make it back home if a car decides to pull into your lane you cant do anything but make a SRT sammich!!! im not trying to tell you what to do but doing that also puts wear n' tear on the motor!!! trust me...im a mechanic!!! and besides if you go the speed limit on a 2 lane road you should be in the right lane anyways.... if its a three lane highway, you'd be better off in the middle lane so they can go around you on either side of you......

Get out of the left lane Rick
barho 07-15-2008, 11:31 AM I think everyone seems to be missing the big picture here.
I am sure everyone is a very good driver that chooses to go 150 mph on the freeway, however, as I posted earlier, what happens when you are doing 150 in the left lane, and someone to the right doing 70-75 just to the right decides to pass the guy in front of him doing 65-70? At 150 mph you are coming up awfully quick to the cars directly in front of you, and they may very well not notice you as they begin to merge into the left lane (you are traveling at 220' per second which equates to 14 car lengths per second based on the GC dimensions). The car in front of you is doing 70-75 which would equate to roughly 110'/sec or 7 car lengths. Therefore, lets say for argument sake, when the car pulls out in front of you you are 7 cars lengths ahead. You now have 1 sec to, see this person change lanes, react, take your foot off the gas pedal (which is most certainly on the floor), depress the brake pedal, to slow down and not nail the car in front of you.
I don't care how good of a driver you are. You are driving a street legal SUV.....you ain't gonna make it. And don't tell me you will pull off a nimble changing of lanes at the same time.......no matter what the SRT Engineers did to make the beast handle better than a typical SUV, you're gonna roll, and at 150 mph, seatbelt or not, you're getting tossed from the vehicle and flattended by on coming traffic (which will most certainly try to avoid your corpse by similar manuevers, putting their own lives at risk.
Sorry for the gruesome picture........but that's REAL!
08srt8Calgary 07-15-2008, 11:48 AM Thanks Rick, your reply to my question has anwsered everything:

–noun 1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
gpfarrell 07-15-2008, 12:00 PM I guess you can call me Rick's friend because I certainly have more in common with him than somebody throwing 2 1/2 tons down a public highway at 150 mph.
The comparisons to the Autobahn are stupid. German drivers are disciplined. American drivers are distracted. German drivers expect left-lane traffic to approach them from behind at Porsche speed. American drivers think the rearview mirror is for applying make-up.
Its not the road or the car, or even the car's driver... its the other cars' drivers.
I don't know what it would be like to kill somebody and I pray I never learn either. At 150 mph you could wipe out a lot of people in mere seconds and spend the rest of your life, likely in jail, regretting it... if you're not lucky enough to take yourself out at the same time.
So do you think I am wearing panties? Well, I don't care what you think.
I enjoy the Jeep's horsepower... in short bursts and somewhat controlled environments... like an onramp with nobody on either side of me. Passing 70 mph traffic going 80 mph faster is vehiculer manslaughter. I enjoy open lapping days at the local track. I haven't taken the Jeep there but I've had plenty of fun in the Mustang and the 911.
Google "BMW M5 Florida Airport drag race" and you just might find another reason to be careful in highly engineered performance machines and vague in your posts.
SRT8IG 07-15-2008, 02:50 PM Its not the road or the car, or even the car's driver... its the other cars' drivers.
Exactly! How many of us can honestly can say that have enough skills to control the car at 100 mph, let alone 150, if something unexpected happens?
Couple of weeks ago on GSP, the guy driving very sporty looking Celica in the next lane was sideswiped by SUV (or so he claimed). ...He panicked and just let the brakes and steering wheel go... His car bounced like a ball off the guard rail and divider, in the process taking 3 cars with him.
I knew several professional rally car drivers (the best drivers IMO). The better was the driver, the slower he was on the public roads and vice-versa... The guy who was multiple champion, had a small picture of his sun placed on the speedometer of his private car @130 km/h (80mph). But you should see him driving on the stage…
BOB WISNER 07-15-2008, 03:08 PM In my second post I mentioned that everyone is entitled to their opinion, which they are. Most of us on here are making valid arguments which ever side your on. But then there is Rick G who is acting like a little prick. If you really bought a JGCSRT8 only for its looks, you've got issues. And don't ever act like you know me or my wife! Anyone on this site that has met my wife and I know the kind of people we are. On second thought, we have been married for seventeen years, maybe I am trying to get rid of her. jkjkjk!!!!

How's things gp?

Couldn't be better! 2nd trip to the strip got me 13.1 in my blue car on worn KDWS's and the T-kit right out of the box.
I've had a great fling with our Red Rock but there's a 535xi wagon calling our name... it's got a clutch pedal and my wife really wants it so my dance with the Hemi is going to end too soon. The wagon won't be quite as fast as the Jeep... I think it gives up 4/10ths in the quarter... but we hardly ever drive it at 150 mph anyhow.
Your snow pics look great!
Cheers,
G
LBCSRT8 07-15-2008, 11:15 PM Luckily, it was executed flawlessly and exciting as hell! My Bad!

Nice.......good to hear. Good luck with the Jeep sale. ;)

Yes, putting peoples lifes in danger is always exciting.

Harrison@Stage6 07-17-2008, 08:44 AM RickG...... you NEVER answered my question but answered everyone else's. How fast have you had your Jeep up to? BE HONEST NOW!! Don't puss out and give us some bogus crap like 75mph or something. You're telling me that you've never "punched" it off the line and risked someone pulling out in front? That's illegal..... it's called improper acceleration. Answer the question RickG...... how fast have you had your Jeep up to?
gpfarrell 07-17-2008, 08:59 AM You're telling me that you've never "punched" it off the line and risked someone pulling out in front? That's illegal..... it's called improper acceleration.
Yeah, a Jeep SRT going 50 mph and hitting a vehicle going 15 is just like a Jeep SRT going 150 mph and hitting one going 70.
How fast Rick has driven has nothing to do with nothing. If he drove 40 in a school zone he's all wrong. If he found a deserted stretch in Wyoming an hit the rev limiter in 5th he might be nuts but he's hardly a menace to society.
150mph in traffic is criminal. A group of vehicles going 150mph in traffic is an impatient tragedy waiting to happen.
Harrison@Stage6 07-17-2008, 09:04 AM Do we actually know what the situation was like? Was there wall to wall traffic? I doubt it. If they got a few miles of stretch and they nailed it...... so what? If they were doing this while flying by cars then it was unsafe. But on a Sunday morning, I bet they had they safe chances. Like YOU said..... if they found some deserted part of the road they were on, he's hardly a menace to society.

Thank you. Lets try not to beat a dead horse. This subject is old and tiresome, I mean if I were to pick bones about being unsafe to other people, I would point out that Rick has his Pitbull off leash, and well that could be endagerment to anything living, not saying his pit would do that, have owned a few and they are sweet as hell, but hey you never know when something could spark in the dogs head and go crazy, but we all choose to do what we want to do, and wont let the opinion of some other mis-informed person sway our thinking. Its the American in us to say "F you I will do whatever I want, and if you dont like it, well hey screw you" Its just the basic overall mentality of people. So lets drop it. Its obviouisly in the past, no one was hurt in the process, so yeah live and learn.

Fortunately, the only outcome of this idiocy is a dead horse, not a bunch of body bags.
Yeah, death is tiresome.
I think that might be why several of us are trying to point out that there aren't no fender-benders at a buck and a half.
Sorry to be tiresome. Glad I live 2800 miles away.
BOB WISNER 07-17-2008, 01:02 PM Hey gpfarrell and rick g. Thank God the two of you are saints and have never done anything wrong or reckless in your perfect lives! Oh, by the way Rick, that is a great looking dog.

Here you go........right from the horses mouth.
Other drivers on the freeway must of thought they were seeing things seeing not one but six Jeeps fly by them like they were standing still. When we got back to my pad, I found out the first three Jeeps were doing 150 mph.

Its not so much the act of doing something wrong or wreckless.........its the bragging about it on a public forum that does not make you look good and starts these debates.

OurZoo 07-17-2008, 08:13 PM It definitely wasn't something we all set out to do. We all got on the freeway and the adrenaline began pumping and it's what happened. Was it fun? Hell yeah. Am I sorry? Hell no. Ohhhhhh, and I do 85 regularly every damn day. Would anyone one like to crucify me for that too? Geeeeeez.....Keep the thread civil or I'll lock it.
