: Just got my GSM Supercharger Installed...

After I had already purchased my GSM Supercharger, I began seeing people posting negative reviews and issue with the kit. I decided to have faith in GSM and install the kit anyways. This is what has happened so far…

Just like everyone warned me about the kit was shipped with multiple missing parts. Most importantly my instructions had a Jeep SRT8 cover but had 300C instructions. My shop contacted GSM and they shipped out the correct manual and the missing parts. If they know this is an issue I don’t understand why they can’t have someone just verify the kit is complete before sending it out the door?... it is as simple as having a checklist taped to the box. This also hurts the shop because the run on schedule and when parts are missing they can’t work on my truck… now they have dead time.

Moving forward…

They received the parts from GSM and got the kit installed… they took it out for the first test run and it shredded the belt in the first few minutes. After contacting GSM they were told that the instructions that were fedex’ed out were missing a critical page that had a few more steps that would prevent the belt from being shredded.

Once that was sent out the kit installation was complete. Not a great experience, but not awful. I am just excited to drive the car.

Let me just say that this has a bunch of power that you can notice right away.

I have a few questions/concerns for you guys.

1. The first thing I noticed is that I have a slight smell of burning rubber… I am not too concerned here… I will just watch it for a week to 2 to see if it goes away.

2. Jerky performance… Maybe this is just to my inexperience with superchargers but I can hold the throttle at set position and the car will jerk forward noticeably when the SC spools up. It is so bad it seems like I am a 14 girl trying to learn how to drive stick on a Ferrari. It is that bad. This is only the case with just normal driving around town. For example when I was driving through an intersection at 20-30 mph the wheels chirped and slammed me back in the seat with constant pressure on the throttle. I also noticed a few times it seemed like the SC disengaged and I felt a huge loss of power in the middle of accelerating.

Is this normal for a SC? Is there anything I can do? Any ideas?

3. The idle sound of the SC sounds like it is an un-oiled antique engine. If you stand out side the car while it is driving slow in parking lot, it sounds like the engine is really cheap and crappy.

But once you hit the gas it sounds great… and the blow off is LOUD and will blow out any leaves from under your truck.

What do you guys think? I am happy overall so far, but i want these issues to be resolved.

Rick

what does the kit come with in regards to tuning? is there a piggy back ECU? upgraded fuel injectors? I would put it on a dyno and check a/f ratios before driving it one more mile. but that's just me.

It is so bad it seems like I am a 14 girl trying to learn how to drive stick on a Ferrari. It is that bad. I had a GSM blower on my '03 Hemi Ram... and that was one of the main reasons I traded that truck in for the SRT8. It was never a seamless transition of power with that supercharger - it was either on or off. Very jerky... sometimes quite embarrassing. It would come on at different rpms as well - you never really knew when it was going to come on.

Definitely keep an eye on the Air/Fuel ratio... that was a constant battle for me for about a year - seemed like no matter how well it was tuned - any change in humidity, elevation, or level of octane would make the A/F fluctuate.

Why are people still buying these with all of the negative posts? If they can't even get the shipping and instructions correct, do you think they have actually thoroughly tested this product before putting it on the market? The disorganization probably runs throughout the entire shop.

definitely get it on a dyno with A/F readings. Then youll know if everything is running right. If everything is dialed in, it shouldnt have jerky acceleration. Should be nice and smooth. Although it could be hard to tell because youre slammed into the back of the seat but youll know

Second, Id also take it to a reputable tuning shop, have them make a tune for the Jeep

I for one think the stroked engine to 426 is a better idea than the super charger but I expect there would be problems there as well.

that is the main problem here the DCX codes for the 6.1 have not been hacked yet. So I have no idea how they are tuning these vehicles.

thats unbelievable. This car has been out for a year and there still isnt a major company tuning these things. Theres gotta be someone out there doing these. I could recommend a couple places that might be able to do something with it. Theyre in LA area, Vegas and another in Georgia. Both of these guys are probably the best tuners in the country

RET ( www.racersedgetuning.com ) is in LA. Greg is the owner and can find horsepower like you wouldnt believe.

MPH ( www.modularpowerhouse.com ) in Georgia mainly deals with Mustangs but Tim is probably the best in the country with tunes. He has tuned 100's of thousand of cars. Im sure he would be able to work something out.

Nevarez Racing is in Vegas right next to Motor Speedway. Gil is the man over there.

If none of those guys can do it im sure they might be able to direct you guys to someone that could

right on!!! As far as I know, NO one has broken the "code" for the DCX PCMs. My 03 HEMI is still stock mainly for the lack of tuning. This is the my main reason for not buying the SRT/8 GC. I'm still holding out hope, that soon, we will have a "HEMI Edit" but I'n not holding my breath. Every one else can have tuning, why can't the HEMI crowd? Before anyone jumps on me, I know that DCX does it for warranty reasons. But I'm willing to sign a waiver with them if necessary. IMHO, a properly tuned car will /should not have any real issues with it, excessive abuse aside. Sorry for the hijak thread.

Rick,
I had two kits, and I hope the below will help you out:

- First you must take your truck to a good tuning shop
- You need an additional idler pulley with instruction for the belt problem
- You need to buy the programmer and the cable to tune the additional ECU at your area of living and throttle responce.
- the sound of the SC is normal.
- You need to adjust your blow off valves to the max to realese the pressure perfectly whenever its required
- The tuning must be on a dyno, or on the street using proper devises to monitor your AF ratios.

Good luck!
