: The 1-2 shift problem finally showed up in my '07

Well it took me a while to figure out what was going on but through the help of everyone here I finally put 2 and 2 together. It seems I'm having a problem similar to everyone elses shift problem. When it first happened it felt like a fuel problem more than a shift problem. My Jeep would just die before making the shift almost like if you hit the rev limit. It's happening more often now so it's been easier to diagnose. I think it's just hesitating between the shift causing it to 'Pop" when it shifts. I'd like to know if this is similar to what others have experienced. I read the thread about the HVAC reflash possibly fixing this, my dealer of course has nothing to date for that or anything alse that addresses the Trans. If anyone has the TSB # for that reflash or any others could you post or PM me with the info? I gotta say too I'm glad I joined this forum. I've gotten a wealth of information from the members here. Thank you!

The HVAC flash has absolutely nothing to do with the tranny issue. JeepSRT8 happen to go in for the HVAC TSB regarding the A/C problem.......he had complained to the dealer about a 1-2 hesitation for some time and they provided him with a new TCM.

You need to go complain and make them drive it.......and complain!!!

Thanks for clarifying that for me. It was difficult to understand how an HVAC flash would bennefit the trany. I have complained to the dealership and they inputed the problem into Chrysler's data base. Since they have no TSB's for this specific problem yet I'm being told I have to wait until DC comes up with something. Maybe I just need to push for a new TCM! It seems to me that this is happening quite a bit to others here so if I come up with anything other than replacing the TCM I'll be sure to post it. The reality may be that there just isn't a fix for this yet.

Send me a PM and I'll give you the TCM Re-Flash Version. I had two seperate issues, HVAC and Tranny shift problem. Then the TCM Re-Flash wasn't available so the reason for installing a complete TCM. A lot of people have contacted me after trying to get their Dealer to do this? Some dealers wouldn't just do it? Only what applies to their vin no? This solved my shift problem and your post confirms the 07 JGC doesn't have this update? HTH Gene

WHy not just explain it so every one is away? I was under the impression the shift problem only pertained to the 06 model, but was fixed on the 07.

This morning, I went out driving to really test the car ... and I had test driven an '06 at a dealer prior to my '07 (which i wasnt allowed to test drive, at a differant dealer) ... and the shift lag was huge between gears.

Today I went out in my '07, gunned it like mad and expected me to hit redline in 1st and jerk forward when the gas let off, instead it shifted at redline when I told it too .... SO SWEET!!

It also shifts at redline automatically in manually set gear mode ... the '06 would just redline instead of shifting.

Were you manualy "tap" shifting or were you in full auto. I ask this because I drove two '06 models and when I tried to manually shift they both hit the rev limit really fast in 1st. I haven't noticed that with my '07. The problem I've begun to have is an intermitant hesitation between the 1-2 shift usually at wot in full auto. I don't believe my '07 automatically shifts in manual mode redline or not so I'm really currious about how your trany is functioning.

How long have you had yours? I ordered mine back in June and it was delivered the end of september so I'm guessing since it has such an early production date that maybe that's why I'm having many of the same problems the '06 vehicles are having. They might not have worked these kinks out until after some of the '07's were put out. Just a guess though.

believe me i noticed it on the showroom floor. i didn't buy this vehicle for luxury, i just wanted the motor and the interior space. in saying this i still expect a quality vehicle that does not need maintenence every other week for some factory issue.

by the way this does not mean that i don't love this vehicle, i am just getting frustrated with the small issues.

Auto Stick Mode stays in whatever gear that's selected right up to the rev limiter, only on the SRT Trans. A TCM Updated Version solves the shift hesitation at WOT. PM me for this info. I've already sent over 50 replys but some Dealers are playing dumb on this. Believe me it works. Gene

According to my dealer (service manager) my particular '06 was built in February and I purchased it in early April - the day the dealer in NY actually received it. He and I determined that the optimal shift's were at 4500 RPM's in auto-stick mode from 1st to 2nd. This is approx 1500 RPM's less than what the engine can handle without "locking up" in 1st. In full automatic, my GC SRT/8 will push to 6000 RPM's before auto-shifting to 2nd without any lag. He told me that this engineering design is inherent as an obvious user prevention from blowing the engine. My issue is that I want that split second difference back in auto-stick mode and therefore should be able to push it to 6k RPM's manually - in all gears if I perfer. Just recently, I met another black '06 SRT/8 GC owner - from the same dealer - who did some incredible performance modifications including NOS installed in the rear cargo space. With that type of horsepower, he did some tranny mod's as well to accomodate the new speed and new shifting requirements. I am going to hook up with him after the holidays and see if he is interested in joining this forum as well. I will keep us posted...
