Hello,

I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee from Arizona and had it shipped to Cali. I have been looking at it since I've owned it and realized that the tailpipes do not extend the same length from the car. I was wondering how I would try to fix this problem. There is a local Jeep dealership down the road but considering I didn't buy this unit from them I would expect them to charge me. I wanted to see what your input was on the issue. I believe it should be an easily solved problem but if they have to remove the tailpipes I will see if they will throw in a performance exhaust since they had to remove it. Please feel free to send any input.

Well, I wouldn't expect anyone to throw in a performance exhaust. Maybe the labor, if you bought the parts, but I think it is a bit much to ask a dealer, who was not to blame for the problem, to pay for an aftermarket exhaust.

As for the problem at hand, you should have no problem taking it to your closest dealer. It is under warranty and there should be no charge for the repair.

Same thing with my tips. When I replaced the stock muffler with a magnaflow the first thing my exhaust guru at the performance shop noticed was the bologna tip exhausts were misaligned by the factory. He replaced the muffler, which was baffled on the passenger side only and not on the driver side. The tips bothered him so much that he re-cut the one tip himself and then re-aligned them, no charge.

Heads up to all GC owners - took my GC to a car wash yesterday that I have gone to for years and when I came out both rear wheels were badly scuffed up. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed off. Anyway, just a heads up...

bhotz,
Did you have the 2 resonators in the tail pipes removed when you had the muffler replaced? How does it sound on the highway, any droning at 55-75? Oh, and you need a swift kick for taking any vehicle with 20's through an automated car wash, LOL.

Not used to 20" wheels, still shouldn't have that happen. But thanks for the heads up. Can't wait to see what two new wheels will cost.

The sound is almost identical to stock. If anything the system is more balanced. The complete stock system behind the mufflers is still in place.

My exhaust guy (26 years of building perf. exhaust systems) was totally impressed with the GCSRT8, top to bottom. I asked him about changing to a straight exhaust from the muffler back and removing the resonators. Both resonators are clear through with no baffle. As for the crazy exhaust bends, he said we would not pick-up any more performance by straightening the system from the muffler back and taking out the resonators would only make it louder. I have a couple of video clips getting on it on the highway, I'll try and link them tomorrow if I can figure out how to get them on. This thing really rips! My take is if you want loud, then remove the resonators. Obviously there's a bit of weight savings involved with their removal.

He said you can pick-up some horses in front of the muffler but from what I have heard this would void the warranty so I think I'll leave this alone.

Sounds like a modded Viper if you remove the resonators, atleast mine does:D

The rear wheels are $1370 each. I have already quoted them, since mine was delivered with curb rash on one of the them.

I almost fell over when they faxed me my quote the other day for them. even the guy at the jeep parts counter was embarrassed about it. I've got a guy in PA that can repair them. I'm going to find out what he charges and if he can fix them. The finish on the wheels to begin with wasn't so great. No chips, but definitely imperfections in the finish. I hope the dealership is picking up the tab on your wheels....

No. Had car shipped from out of state dealer, and basically taking it in the tailpipe. Local dealer didn't even think the wheel could be refinished since it is right on the edge.
