The "autozone gas cap" you noted is a throwback to the original Challenger and Chargers of the 70's. They are considered pretty cool to all of the old "baby boomers" this car was created for.

Since I think you're actually joking, or simply too young to know the history of Chrysler products.. I'll forgive the autozone comment.

It probably explains the reason you bought a new GTO that doesn't look anything like a GTO -- talk about ricer.

Yes it is very cool... I guess since I flipped open and snapped one of those shut many times during the 70s on my dad's 1969 Charger -- this wouldn't have been a Challenger without that gas cap. That Hemi Orange Challenger reminds me of the 1970 Hemi Challenger slap stick 4-speed that was on the showroom floor at La Habra Dodge when my dad bought his Charger. MSRP was $5K.

I tried like hell to get him to buy that Challenger -- but the Charger was a stretch at $3K.

And you're absolutely correct, thowback to the days when you could actually purchase a pseudo race-ready car on the dealer lot -- hence the Dodge Daytona (NASCAR) and Challenger T/A (TRANS AM Series). The reason its mounted on the driver-side for pit stops.

If they hosed this minor detail, Chrysler would have never heard the end of it ... similar to when the new Charger came out with four doors. Big mistake.
