Right now, my Jeep is driving different than it did before. Instead of the RPMs seemingly being in control and shifting awesomely, now when I accelerate at all, even from like 20-40 the RPMs rev up to like 5-6000. I'm sure it wasn't doing this before.

Here's what happened that may be related:
I left today without putting on my seatbelt and since I was moving it wouldn't let me pull it out, so I stopped at the end of the driveway and put it in park and the seatbelt still wouldn't budge, so I turned the car off and I still don't think it budged, so I turned it on and off again real quick and then the seatbelt came loose and I turned the car on again and started to drive. At this point is when it started, and then a message came on the digital display in the dash that said 'Programming Active'. And that's when the RPMs started to act up.

I have no idea what the programming active message was referring to and have looked all in the Manual and these boards. I know there was a 1-2 shift problem from http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/s...hlight=1st+2nd
that link. But I dont think that is what I'm experiencing. Tomorrow is Saturday and I'm 2 1/2 hours from my dealer so I'd like to figure out if I can fix this on my own. Thanks for the help, and sorry if I'm retarded.

edit: Also the message it said may have been programming activated, or program active, or programming active or program activated, i'm not sure which. It wasn't on there for long and I can't remember specificlaly what it was or if anything came before it.

Since your 2hrs away from your dealer the easiest thing to perform is disconnect your battery for 15-20min you may have to let the computer reset for everything to go back to normal,The best thing would be to go to the dealer so we know what this problem is.Maybe you can find a closer dealer:D

When you turn the ignition on and off a few times you enter the programming mode for when you want to program a brand new ignition key. Thats what the "programming active" message meant. No harm done.

This has nothing to do with your seatbelt and nothing to do with the transmission. Actually what you describe, about the engine revving up to 5 or 6000, sounds like you put the transmission into "manual" mode. If this ever happens again all you have to do is go back into "D" by pushing the shift lever to the right a few times. Or go into neutral and back into D.

If this doesn't make any sense then you really need to read the instruction manual in your glove compartment!

I didn't put it into manual mode, and I know what manual mode is, thx.

Hopefully I can get it into the shop sometime soon.

Or push the shifter to the right and hold for 2 seconds..that will put it into "D" also...
