: I'm Pissed, No "SUV's" Welcome
Jeep Trick 06-04-2008, 08:17 PM So as I posted before I was looking forward to a little instructional track time this weekend at Homestead International Speedway. I got a call from a representative from the sponsor club commenting on the uniqueness of my vehicle (It is a Porche owners club but the event is open to all brands). We had a pleasant enough conversation in which I thought and I believe the caller thought all concerns where put to rest. He said that I would probably not hear from him again and he looked forward to seeing me Saturday.
Then the e-mail
Hello Joel,
I checked with the other PBOC and PCA organizers and there is a prohibition on SUVs. Therefore your Cherokee does not qualify as a vehicle that can be run in our Driver’s Ed program.
If you have another vehicle would you still like to drive or should I arrange for a refund?
Let me know, Michael
I got this just 45min before I was going to pre-inspection.
We talked for a good 20min or so and he was completely aware of the fact the there where track suitable SUV's out there but the perception was that they where not suitable for track racing. Therefor the rule that was put in place.
I was really looking forward to taking the Jeep out and running it around the track.
I not really hatting on Michael as I got the impression that he was going to bat for me, It was just the powers that be that weren't having it.
There probably just afraid that he might get their a$$ handed to them by a Jeep.
Could you imagine a Porche owner having to admit that a Jeep got the bets of them. :D
aplatero1984 06-04-2008, 08:49 PM That sucks Joel!! they did like you cuz your Jeep is a "minority" nobody likes "minorities" around here!!!
OurZoo 06-04-2008, 08:52 PM That sux dude. At least you got the email before you headed over there? What if it was a couple hour drive and you had already been on your way? That's b.s.
HoustonSRT-8 06-04-2008, 09:19 PM Sue 'em for discrimination. :p

NitroCrzy 06-04-2008, 11:47 PM Jeep Trick,
I have faced the exact same issue..... I had to call buddies to get them to approve me to use my Jeep on the track. If I hadn't befriended the President of the drag racing club, I probably would never have been allowed to race. I go thru the same hassle everytime I enter a different type race too... like drifting. It took buddying up to all the guys associated with racing over here to get the chance to run. If I were you and it wasn't too far to go. I'd take the Jeep over for the inspection and then let them decide.
It wouldn't hurt to show pic's of other Jeeps on the track.

rha600 06-05-2008, 05:01 AM so they won't have a single Porsche Cayanne at this track meet? That would be interesting to go see if they have black balled those too.
Mango 06-05-2008, 05:50 AM Well truth be told, the Jeep does have a much higher center of gravity vs. any car, especially a Porsche. Maybe it's an insurance thing?
There's a reason they don't run the Jeeps on the "Hot Lapping" at the SRT Track Experience, on all tracks. Some of the tracks don't allow it.
LRChariot 06-05-2008, 06:52 AM Don't the SRT Experience boys run at Homestead? Seems like if they can run on the track with the SRT product line then the "rules" sound more like Opinion from the Driving School than the track.
That Sucks!
CentralTexHemi 06-05-2008, 07:14 AM I think they have been watching the SRT track experience vids on youtube and were in fear of being humiliated by the SRT Jeep so they sent you that email, well thats how I would look at it.
kramsay1234 06-05-2008, 07:16 AM Thats ass. After reading your initial thread, I was looking forward to pics and vids and description on how you did.

cobrakid 06-05-2008, 08:23 AM I think I would have showed up there anyway, and played dumb about the email.
Let them tell you right there, and then throw an F-ing fit.
The Cayenne opinion was also valid.......but also so was the SRT track experience view.
At E-town when I did the experience....they were taking the Jeeps around the
high speed road course, but not letting the patrons drive them.
However we ran lots on the slower "cone" course, and I was amazed at how bad
azz the Jeeps were on the courses.....if they didn't have problems, there to
me they problem wouldn't elsewhere.
If someone had some mods done...+ cooling...where they could run 12.5 or better in the
1/4 mile and had the new Eibach lowering springs.......
..the SRT8 Jeeps would probably trounce 95% of most stock type vehicles on any road type course?
goodluck, sorry to hear about that, that is pretty dis-heartening.

The guys at BIC still get a little torque'd that I beat them in my Jeep. Stock these Jeeps can beat 90% of the cars that show up for National race days.
