I get that its a street truck. But how different is our All Wheel Drive from the other JGCs? If I lift it and put some dirt tires on it then what could it do? Did I read somewhere that the AWD system can turn a maximum of three wheels at once? That sounds pretty promising on muddy days at the ranch. Probably wouldn't do any boulder crawling but the trucks gotta hunt!

The AWD system is nothing like the Quadrdrive II found in the regular cherokee. Its by no means designed for off-road use. The differentials are open, front and rear, and there are no aftermarket lockers. The SRT can only spin 2 wheels at once. The suspension would have to be totally revamped for an offroad applcation.. the stock setup is stiff and tuned for high speed cornering only.. it would feel like a horsecart off road and probably break something almost immiedately, not even to mention how far out of alignment it would be.

In addition, the silver and red rock ones would tail behind the black ones. :D If you want a trail rated Jeep, go with the limited or overland and modify from there. :D

I bought this jeep because it is the fastest SUV I could buy. However, I have a ranch that needs attention.
I won't lift it. It wouldn't be right. We'll end up using my Brother's F-150.

Garyholl, If we could get a little more ground clearance out of the GCSRT it would be awesome. Dispite what these clowns say, the AWD has worked great from me the last couple weeks. Im climbing mountains and going thru mud, I am spending $10/day cleaning the Jeep. I tackled a pretty steep climb this afternoon and the lowend torque the Jeep had, it climbed great with the stock tires.

Winston, since you at least posted a answer instead of belittling the original poster.

I have over 500 miles on gravel roads and up mountains on dirt roads. Other than ground clearance the Jeep has performed great, I had a F350 a few months ago. Sure it will do more, but my Jeep is getting better gas mileage and Super Unleaded is cheaper than Diesel. After I get off the dirt roads, I get on it and do 175mph down the lonely roads of Montana. I know its not the smartest thing but its only me and the antelope in this neck of the woods ;)

Maybe I should have clarified the difference between "off roading" and "driving on a non-paved road".

You can take the Jeep onto an unprepared road just fine. It will navigate gravel, dirt, snow, ice, and very small bumps just fine... like just about any other normal car can. When I speak of "off roading", i mean exactly that.. NO ROAD. Thus anyone who has been a member of a Jeep club would probably think along these lines: mountains, rocks, mud, pits, streams, sand, logs, etc. Like I said, the Jeep could be made into a formidable off-roader, it would require a completely new suspension and tires. There's ZERO info as to how high you could go, or how the driveline angles would affect powertrain components or the T/C system. Even if you did put the lift and tires on, you'd still have the huge disadvantage of low-hanging body panels, the open axles, and non-intelligent AWD system which would not have the ability to transfer torque to the higher-traction wheels, much less simply lock the axles like a posi would. All of those issues would have to be addressed in order for the Jeep to be able to compete with something like a basic Grand Cherokee 4x4 LTD or Overland.

If I were someone who wanted the aggressive look and power of the SRT8, i'd buy the aforementioned GC Overland and lift it. Then i'd bolt on some cheap SRT8 body panels, then have the 5.7 built! Our LX bretheren have lots of proven bolt-on mods for the 5.7 Hemi to make it perform much better than a stock 6.1.

Hmmm. It's amazing that you complain about me yet I was the only one to point you to what appears to be the only lifted potentially offroad srt in existence... If you can't use that information to figure out what you're looking for, no one can help you.

And it's no hijack, telling people to use the search button when they ask the same question that's been asked 10 times a day (didn't you have a cai thread and a "what can I outrun thread" too?), is actually the best advice.

Why do you expect people to take their time to answer your questions when you're too lazy to use the tools at hand to learn something for yourself?

Well look bro...

I'll start. I'm 30, an attorney, live in Dallas, Texas, and am buying the SRT8 for my wife as a Christmas present.

He's an unhappy prick who doesn't even have his "OWN" Srt-8.....his wife(must not be the sharpest to be with somebody as insecure and shallow as him) drives it. He only sneaks it around when she is asleep (which he's admitted to).....

Then he has been starting dumb threads about what car he should get next(4 months ago BTW) and what mods he can do that his WIFE wouldn't notice...WTF....come on what a putz LOL...

So let him go around with his insults and search button whining....he's living vicariously through us and his wife and he's unhappy.....driving around his old heavy outdated S-type R Jaguar BUT he doesn't have a life so he gets on here every single day and insults every new person.....

Hey Bridam search for your own pointless JACKASS threads like the dog cage, cts-v u will never get, the storms a comin', and you horsepower fleet average thread that went nowhere

Bridam's in constant strive for attention.........41 dumb threads yet only 8 of 41 have more than 20 replies while 10 of my 18 have more than 20 replies....

Bridam's a nobody dude.....carry on!:D

Edit: Don't forget your popcorn as things will inevitably heat up....just sick of his arrogant non Srt8 driving a$$

This has been discussed... you can read the entire attached thread -- bottom line you should trade it for an AEV and have them drop in a 6.1L as a special order. There's way too many hurdles to convert a GCSRT into an effective off-road vehicle.

Ah. How youngmedic holds a grudge whenever he perceives that he's been dissed. It's funny that I posted that in a thread where the rest of the membership was tearing you up and was actually trying to be a voice of reason--that the things you do to a car can be best explained by the age gap. Remember, you got your panties in a bunch when you said that you had the tightest 300 around and people here said it looked like crap?

But, that's besides the point. I was actually one of the only people to give him the answer to his question (you may have missed it) and he was ungrateful. And, you may not understand the nuances of marriage so I'll explain a few things to you:

(1) I own (I don't know where you got leasing in mind) the jeep and drive it whenever I want. I've put the majority of the miles in it. She just doesn't want me modding it and that's fine. I sneak in what I can (I don't know where you got that I can drive it only when she's sleeping). And, I just wouldn't drive around with the rear tv down for everyone to envy, sit and watch Transformers in it, or take videos of how cool I am driving down the street.

(2) My wife can drive my car whenever she wants. And, when I get my next car, the CTS-V or whatever (to your comment about how long it's taken to get a new car, the cars I'm looking at haven't finished coming out)--she can drive that too. And, I'll pay cash. But, I suspect that will be out of your price range. So I don't have to worry about you owning one and making it look silly. You should have gone to medical school so you could worry about more important things in life than owning the most expensive car you can and dumping tons of money into it that you'll never get back.

(3) And, if you're lucky, and get married one day (or perhaps have a life partner in your case), your wife will want cool cars too. That's right, I get to have multiple cars that I like to drive. I don't have to dump all my money in one and then have to sell it to get another so I can say that I've owned two SRTs.

Edit: I am actually quite honored that you would spend your time looking up my old threads to put together statistics, etc. You must have a lot of time on your hands.

My wife doesn't work and doesn't have to. Just one income. Since you looked at my threads, you may have noticed that we have a newborn that she looks after. You have no idea of my income but it was enough to buy a $65k Jag 3.5 years ago :)

And, like I said, when you mature a little, you'll see that there are more important things to spend your money on than cars. I spend just a very small single digit percentage of my income on cars and am quite happy.

And, medical school, I hope you do go to school. But, you won't and that's the point. And, BTW, you need to be proficient in math to go to medical school. Yes it takes four years of school but you wouldn't be ready to practice medicine until you'd be older than me...

Well you're a lawyer(so u say) bashing people on a Jeep forum and arguing with a 23 y/o about how much u make and paying cash for all the cool cars............i'd say that's pretty mature

Wow. I feel like I started a fight then hauled ass!
First, I checked the dune thread the smartass mentioned, and all the others that came up when I searched dune, but they did not really answer the questions I had.
Second, I think the point was more that I wanted to have an e-conversation about the topic, not do a research project.
I am a single father with a 6 and an 8 year old, so, I don't get out much. Come 8PM, I am stuck in my house with kids in bed and no where to go. It was a week after I got the Jeep before I was able to drive it at night since ,my kids go to bed before dark; the auto high beam thing freaked me out. I was excited about getting the new Jeep and wanted to talk with someone about it so I started some threads. I don't need to be told to go search some other threads, nor does anyone else, as any idiot who can boot a computer can figure out how to operate the search buttton. Stay off the GD thread if you aren't interested. Jesus.
I get enough abuse from GIs who are difficulty with my stuff, I am a civilian contractor, and I don't need it from people who claim to be Jeep or SRT enthusiats, but are really just angry, dry drunks in need of a twelve step program.

That having been said, may peace be with you, cause war sucks!

I busted my a$$ building my company and sold it you little twit and made out like a bandit. You know NOTHING of me. I also own 5 house... 4 here in the area and 1 in Old Greenwich, Ct... guess what little one..... no mortgages either. How's your monthly payments? Me saying I'm a stay at home dad basically means I like doing whatever I want whenever I want. You want me to say I do nothing then... fine. I also have my Real Estate License as well. Obviously your education didn't teach you not to be a pompous arrogant a$$ now did it? Mr. I'm gonna flash some money to look cool. It's probably only $120.00 you scanned into your computer then printed it all out. Don't think that people on these boards aren't well off, just the smart ones don't act like you. You think you're the only person with some money? You're wrong little child. Just we don't flash it like you do. We don't need to for our security. Maybe you do for your INSECURITY.... but we don't have to.

Well back to the original topic for a minute. I would love to see an SRT built for off road, whether it be a prerunner or a rockcrawler. A nice solid axle swap in the front with a coilover four link and rear coilover four link would be absolutely sick. Or even an IFS with center mounted equal length a-arms and a cantilevered rear suspension with serious travel would do.

I don't care how smart you think you are, or how much you think other people should like what YOU like, but ease the F*** up.

Btw, this is my first post, and I AM looking at the classifieds here, so sorry if I pissed you off, but if you are the judgmental prik, not sure you have the right rig for me anyway!

So, lifting is not so popular here, and I see why, but what have you seen that fills the wheel well a bit more? What is a god tire size?

OK.... I need to come back to this thread with some humility..... Apparently whatever bug I had up my butt last night had me jump into an old thread and get in the middle of someone else’s fight. I just searched for a few things to see what others had done, and read some posts from guys who were being crappy, so I was crappy too.
Generally, I am not a PITA, but I failed to see that was an ancient thread… And was pretty intrusive. Things look a tad different this morning.

were you drunk typing!? similar to drunk texting but instead of just one person saying "WTF" you have the whole forum saying it! lol. not to bust ya balls.... but the SRT should NOT be lifted. not that it cant be done, but its the fact that you WILL have problems doing it. it would be a helluva lot cheaper to keep your 5.7, and either get blown or stroked, (whichever floats ya boat). with all the suspension and drivetrain mods your gonna have to do, you can throw that cash towards your 5.7 and have an offroading BEAST. my guess, to make the SRT "trail" worthy and not have to worry bout breaking anything, i'd say 10 grand. But....now that this 3 year old thread is back from the dead......welcome to the forum!

I see the challenges of lifting, and agree it is sorta ridiculous and self-defeating to lift the SRT8. In some strange way, it makes we want to do it.
