: HELP! Something wrong with my JEEP!

Right now, my Jeep is driving different than it did before. Instead of the RPMs seemingly being in control and shifting awesomely, now when I accelerate at all, even from like 20-40 the RPMs rev up to like 5-6000. I'm sure it wasn't doing this before.

Here's what happened that may be related:
I left today without putting on my seatbelt and since I was moving it wouldn't let me pull it out, so I stopped at the end of the driveway and put it in park and the seatbelt still wouldn't budge, so I turned the car off and I still don't think it budged, so I turned it on and off again real quick and then the seatbelt came loose and I turned the car on again and started to drive. At this point is when it started, and then a message came on the digital display in the dash that said 'Programming Active'. And that's when the RPMs started to act up.

I have no idea what the programming active message was referring to and have looked all in the Manual and these boards. I know there was a 1-2 shift problem from http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1063&highlight=1st+2nd
that link. But I dont think that is what I'm experiencing. Tomorrow is Saturday and I'm 2 1/2 hours from my dealer so I'd like to figure out if I can fix this on my own. Thanks for the help, and sorry if I'm retarded.

edit: Also the message it said may have been programming activated, or program active, or programming active or program activated, i'm not sure which. It wasn't on there for long and I can't remember specificlaly what it was or if anything came before it.

did you try turning it off, then turning it back on? it sounds like you jumped into programming MODE, by the sequence of inputs you made.

Try disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting, see if it fixes.
