: 07' Front & Rear Bumper???
mabosc223 11-03-2006, 09:28 AM As you know I have a 06' Bright Silver GC SRT8. I know I am not the only one on here who likes the monochromatic paint on the new 07's. Especially on the lower front bumper and the lower back bumper or whatever it's called panel around the exhaust. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a front and back painted?... I am trying to figure out the easiest way to do it. And I know the dealer would rape me on cost. Maybe one of the 07' guys would rather have the black inserts or bumpers or whatever the hell they are???... That'd be nice :D I've just always liked a clean monochromatic look. TFL. ;)
There are two ways to do it. One is painting over the current surface, leaving the texture in place. With this option, even adding a flex agent, you may wind up with adhesion problems. Option 2 is to smooth and properly prep the area, then paint. I think option two will not only look better, but it will certainly last longer. Problem is that it wll be very expensive compared to option 1. Smoothing properly is time consuming, and the parts in question have some areas (nooks and crannys) that are TERRIBLY difficult to access for proper smoothing.
Out of curiosity.... for those with the painted 07s..... is the painted area smooth, or does it have texture? If it is smooth from the factory, another option (albeit expensive) is to purchase new front and rear 07 bumpers, then have them painted (I've already checked and you cannot buy them from the factory already painted, ala the rear spoiler).

Thanks so much for the info. I don't know what to do now. I've got a buddy that owns a body shop. I'll see what I can do. I am also curious if it has a smooth or rough texture. Also are they the exact same as the 06' or are they different, as in shape/look?... I bet there'd be a lot of interest from us 06' guys to get the new updated look. Maybe someone could try to get a GP going... *cough* MoparSuperCenter... Just a suggestion. I doubt it's even possible. I know I'd spend the cheese tho.
The 07's are textured. I was looking at one at the dealer the last time I was there. I expected it to be smooth.
07SRT8 11-03-2006, 11:55 AM Just trade in next year for an 08 ...AND you'll get the cool new radio that I thought I was getting this year....

Bahhhhumbug.......

yep they are definently textured...
IMO the black helps set an SRT8 from a reg GC. The reason they are painting them is because the '06's are pealing & it's probably cheaper. JMO.
justyli 11-04-2006, 11:08 AM Yes, the '07 completely painted bumpers are still textured too.
RockBlocker 11-10-2006, 07:48 AM textured is not cool, but what are you gonna do.
Beltfed 11-12-2006, 10:59 PM Don't care if its textured or not, I just don't want the bumper to peel......that's completely ghetto for a new vehicle.

I just got back from my dealer. They took pics & are sending them to Chrysler for the ok to repaint my front bumper. If yours is peeling your dealer should stand behind it.
Some people pay extra for ghetto! :D
jordo9998 11-19-2006, 02:52 PM Wait a sec guy's..
am i reading this right? The bumpers on your 07's that I like so much with the lower areas painted are peeling? i was thinking about getting my 06 lowers painted so the black plastic would match the silver on my car.. Not only that but I heard someone say on page one that they are only painting the lowers on all 07's because it's cheeper than having it be the two tone with the black plastic lowers??
i don't see how jeep could push out a new car and have it peel? are they they must be using flex just like my paint guy was going to do?
someone please explain?

No, I think most of the peeling is on '06's. The bumper cover is the same & is one piece. The '06 is somehow masked off when painted, to leave the black section. The peeling is occering where the unpainted black meets the painted section, kind of a "raw" edge.
jordo9998 11-19-2006, 03:42 PM wow,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Thats not good...
Two questions.
1. Is the masked off bumpers that we have on our 06's more expensive for jeep to make? Is that why they started painting the whole bumper because it was faster and no masking was needed?
2. Since the 07's bumpers are still textured like the 06's, are they just using flex in the paint or is there a different way they are doing it to make sure it's more strong and does not peel over time?

1. IMO. Yes, to "mask" off the area that's not painted on an '06 would be harder to do than just painting the whole bumper cover. DCX may also have started painting the whole cover after getting peeling complaints.
2. IMO. The '07 is painted just like the '06 w/o the "masking".
jordo9998 11-20-2006, 09:01 AM If the 07's are painted the same way as the 06's just without the masking, then wouldn't people have peeling problems on their bumpers on the 07's?

I think it would be less likely, cause the '07 is completely painted w/no "raw" edge. The paint on my '06 is peeling where the unpainted black meets the painted section.
