: Someone Stole my Jeep SRT8 Rims
bbrackel 11-02-2006, 04:48 PM I just wanted to post this to help me keep a look out for my rims. Someone recently stole my rims and tires off my SRT8 and left it sitting on landscaping rocks. I thought I would post something on here since Jeep tells me they will not fit on any other vehicle do to the width and spacing. Insurance covered the $9,000 replacement cost and I was only responsible for my $500 deductible. But I figured I would just put it out there. I would also recommend putting locks on your rims so it doesn’t happen to you. It took Jeep two weeks to locate new rims so they are not easy to find.
There was minor damage done that brought it up to $9000 but the front rims are $1,700 each the back ones are $1,800 each and the tires are between $500 and $600 each. So don't scuff your rims or burn off too much rubber. LOL, I posted this more as a warning I'll never see them again. But it would be nice to catch them.
TRAINER 11-02-2006, 05:02 PM A few things
1. Sorry to hear about that, good thing you have insurance.
2. Tell us where you're located so we can keep an eye open for this.
3. With 9K I would go out and pick up some beautiful aftermarket rims with $$ to spare - just my $0.02
4. Our OEM tires are NOT 5 and 6 hundered a piece! If this is what your stealer quoted you then go out and buy them from the TireRack. They sell them for $287 (front) and $308 (rear).
ResumeSpeed 11-02-2006, 05:58 PM Wow, sorry to hear about this but glad your insurance covered it. If the prices you stated were what the dealer charged the insurance company then they screwed them over. The official list on the wheels is closer to $1200-$1300 each so looks like the dealer jacked the prices way up, to about DOUBLE what dealer cost is. The dealer would pay well under 5k for a full set of wheels and tires. If it were me I would have contacted my insurance company and told them they were screwed over by the dealer.
You did get wheel locks for the new ones, right?
MatFab 11-02-2006, 06:01 PM h also said there was other damage.... possibly issues with the brakes or something.. that would add up quik also
ResumeSpeed 11-02-2006, 06:25 PM h also said there was other damage.... possibly issues with the brakes or something.. that would add up quik also
It still adds up to $8k+ for the wheels and tires, the dealer cleaned up on this one which is total BS.
Beltfed 11-02-2006, 07:56 PM Honestly, if I caught someone doing that to my vehicle........I would absolutely have to restrain myself from blowing their heads off.
Sorry to hear that, there is no shortage of scumbags on this planet.

Hopefully one day I'll make my escape.
jayeepee 11-03-2006, 05:04 AM My dealer (Brown Daub in PA) put wheel locks on before I picked up my GC SRT8. I thought that all dealers did that, I guess not.

His insurance company will send him the check directly, NOT the dealer.
So, if he listens to us here, then he can get the wheels and rims someplace other than his dealer and the money left over will cover his deductable.
omegaman 11-03-2006, 08:18 AM If someone wants to come steal my wheels and tires, I'll provide the concrete blocks. With 9K, I'd get custom 22s, a new exhaust and maybe some headers. Any takers??
NateO 11-03-2006, 08:48 AM Any takers??
No, thank you. ;)
bbrackel 11-03-2006, 08:50 AM I didn’t see the entire parts list but they did need to replace the tire pressure censer and a couple of other things. I know the dealer ship cleaned up, you also have to remember all the prices are dealer prices which are always high. I’m sure you can get tires cheaper somewhere else. I also thought about buys after market rims for a lot less but honestly I really like the factory look of the Jeep already. It’s also not a SUV you see everyday like a Tahoe or something, so it’s already pretty different. I live in Colorado Springs, CO and I’ve only see two others in the last 6 months. I also didn’t mind the dealer ship making a little extra cash off my insurance company, since they are pretty good about screwing people over from my experiences.
The dealership also did a great job taking care of me. As I see it they went above and beyond. It took them 4 hours to get a set of 20’s to on it from another GC off the lot just so they could get it on a trailer. They had to trailer it because rims from a normal GC do not fit and they had to use a ton of spacers just to get it to roll. After they got it back to the dealership they put it on a lift and left it there for two weeks while they waited for the rims to come from four different locations. I didn’t have to mess with any of the insurance bs you normally do they handled everything. I think in the end the only people that weren’t happy about the experience was the insurance company. If any of you have a Lithia Jeep in near by they provide amazing service. And yes I do have locks on my rims now, it’s also their new policy to put them on all new SRT8.
Thanks for the support.
Brad
jms935 11-03-2006, 08:08 PM That is huge mark up. All those prices you paid are the highest I have heard of. You should've shopped it around. Could've saved mucho dinero.
matts 11-04-2006, 07:46 AM that sucks, but kinda glad to see the dealer took the insurance company to the cleaners. lol, kind of ironic. one screw over place ripping the other off

SiriusRIMZ 11-06-2006, 09:16 PM Keep your eye on E-Bay... I had some radio equipment stolen a year ago, and I ended up finding the person who stole it by them listing it on E-bay.
nacnac 11-11-2006, 01:38 PM someone on the jeep commander forum just bought a set off of ebay. You might want to check that out. And you're wrong about the wheels not fitting anything else. The fit the commander and look great. Check out that forum and you'll see what I'm talking about. By the way, I'm looking for a set of srt wheels myself (for my commander). I wouldn't steal them of course, sorry to hear about that.
Don't you srt guys ever get rid of your stock wheels? They are hard to find on ebay or anywhere for that matter. I might have to get aftermarket wheels but I like the factory wheels too much.

There are replica rims on ebay now for much less than OEM wheels.

tugboatchad 04-29-2012, 04:29 PM With the two vendors I mentioned you can get wheels, lug nuts, rotors and brake pads and if you install yourself do it for around $1,400-1,500 shipped.

Do not put 20x9 rims all the way around. It will screw up your transfer case. These rigs were designed staggered for a reason. You can do it, but your gonna hate it when you blow that transfer case.

Nothing wrong with running four 20x9's. There's quite a few guys on here that use this approach for their winter setup.

agreeed, this guy also couldn't be more wrong, what about all the ppl running 18x8s front and rear with snow tires? Ive never heard of different width tires messing up a t-case.... even if you run diff diameters front and rear on these they are still fine as the front output is not direct drive, different front and rear axle ratios are only thing I've heard of not to run with a direct drive t case

yeah, I suppose if someone wants something bad enough, they can still take your wheels. I would guess though that the locking nuts may deter someone or at least slow them down or force them to make alot more noise in the process.

$1600 for tires (my Nitto NT05s were only $1100, Crapyears are $1600)
$4500 for OEM wheels (from the stealership)
$500 for new rotors (complete R1 kit w/ hawk pads cost me under $700 installed)
Less than $7000.......
tugboatchad 05-02-2012, 12:30 PM That's about what my first thoughts were. Although I did get $6,000 for my rims and a little over $2,000 for my tires. Good thing was is mine was from my wreck so got to keep the wrecked (track) set!

500 per tire (run flats)

Tpms sensors 370
Rotors 350 to 450 each

OZWALD 05-03-2012, 01:49 PM Coming out in the morning and seeing your rig up on blocks like that has to be the worst feeling ever. Happened to me too, when I had my Trailblazer SS, almost a year ago now. I actually needed new tires when it happened and the rims had some curb rash, so it ended up working out. But that feeling of having something taken from you like that is infuriating. I've had Gorilla locks on my rims ever since, but like others have said, if they really want them, they'll get them. I think the locks are really more to make those stealing bastards think "eh, maybe not worth it, too much hassle on this one", or at least that's my hope. Good luck and enjoy the new equipment :)

StangSlayerMA 05-03-2012, 02:39 PM Wheel locks help for sure. Time is a theif's enemy.......the longer the job takes, the greater the chances of getting caught. That's not to say they will completely prevent theft. If someone wants them bad enough, and if the location allows.....they will take them. Some car theives have the keys to many wheel lock kits, they're not that hard to get a hold of.

The one good thing I have to say about living in Albuquerque is that it is not that big of a town and our rims are so unique that I am sure I will find who did this. Black SRT8 rims are easy to spot. Add that to there only being a handful of SRT8 Jeeps in town and these guys are as good as caught (at least that's what I keep saying to myself) . If they are smart...they took them out of state.
Mongoose9400 05-03-2012, 03:59 PM I haven't noticed your screen names before. I'm in Rio Rancho. There might be more Jeeps in town than I thought. I've seen a couple different ones.
