I have a handful of motor head friends etc.... they love the jeep btw... a topic of discussion about installing of a CAI came up a few times and they all had the same opinion... enabling the motor to get more air but with the same restriction in air flow out of it is not something you really should do... over time it could slightly compromise the engine... though back pressure sometimes is good but to make a long story short from what im told unless im willing to go with a free flowing cat back system adding a CAI is not worth it....

so ive aborted my mission of going with a CAI until i have the money to throw away and get a cat back exhaust mod...

they explain it better than me but they seem to be very grounded about their reasoning...

but i see all over these forums to get a CAI but majority never mention anything about an exhaust mod

oh.,... and in addition one of their buddies has a hang low CAI.. similar to the bwoody or maybe even be one.... he got water into the intake and it Fcked everythng up... i think people should be more careful about not going so low with these intake mods....

So a CAI won't do anything unless you get a catback? Are your buddies suggesting that the cat-back is the only part of the motor after the intake that is a restriction? Every part of the motor provides some measure of restriction and reducing that restriction always helps. Besides, the CAI isn't just about reducing restriction, it's also good for dropping intake temps.

As far as water in the intake, the drycharger has been proven to help without hurting performance. Also, it's easy to prevent water being sucked into the intake.....don't drive through a lake.
