: Rear Fog Light Question
TXBLU 11-02-2006, 09:56 AM Ok, so it's easy enough to wire the rear fogs to work with the brake/turn signal lights. Mine is at the fab shop having a custom hitch put on it, so I can't look at it right now, but I was wondering if there is a light socket available so that I can wire in running lights as well as the stop/turn signal lights. Otherwise, I would probable wire mine to work as just stop/signal lights. Anyone look into this yet?
SI_G35Coupe 11-02-2006, 11:00 AM IIRC somebody posted that you could wire them as running lights fairly easily, but that they are bright enough to really annoy the driver behind you at night.
one of the wires on a 4pin trailer harness is +12v whenever the car is running, you could splice into that (i forget the wire color)
TXBLU 11-02-2006, 11:49 AM What I wanted to do was to change the socket so that I could run a dual element bulb, enabling the lower wattage running light function in addition to the stop/turn signel function. I agree that using them as running lights as they are would definately be too bright (and annoying). I just haven't looked at the sockets in the other tail lights to see if they will fit in the fog light positions.
ARH1956 11-02-2006, 04:56 PM If you're going to run them as running lights I'd suggest you wire them in series. This way you'll have 12 volts across the pair of lights, (6 volts across each light) & they'll be approximately 1/2 as bright.
idealrides 11-03-2006, 01:05 AM TXBLU, they are 1156 single filament bulbs, so to run an 1157 dual filament bulb you'd have to change the bulb-holder/socket... which isn't impossible but certainly not plug-and-play. I've retrofitted universal 1157 sockets before to other cars, they are available in plastic and steel versions. Pretty sure you'd have to permanently modify the light housing to accept the pop-in universal socket.

TXBLU 11-03-2006, 06:24 AM Has anyone compared the fog light and tail light housings? That was basically my question.
idealrides 11-03-2006, 10:29 AM all the tail lamp bulbs are 3157 dual filament, but the rear fog lamps are 1156 single filament.

I wish an aftermarket company came out with some L.E.D. tail lights for us, like they have for every other car/suv. Now what I was wondering is if the L.E.D.'s will work with my Clear Altezza Lights. Because I think they have some covers over the bulbs, I might be mistaken, I will have to check. Someone chime in please with some info/advice.

I might be confused here, but if you are talking about just lED bulbs, got all three bulbs (tail, turn, stop backup) for mine from here. Used the litetowers. Do have to use resistor on each side for signals, but easy install.
Not sure about Altezza's, never used them.

Str8Srt8 11-03-2006, 09:41 PM I wouldn't go with the stock bulbs/setup for running lights where the rear fogs are. It really is annoying even on the little Mini Cooper with them little rear fogs in the middle of the bumper.

Yeah, I understant that. They have to be '57s because there is only one per side. I was wondering about the part that plugs into the light housing.
See, if the basic plugs are physically the same where they plug into the housings, with the exception of the tail lamps being cofigured for 3157 bulbs vs. the fogs' 1156s, it's a simple matter of getting new plugs and wiring them up. See what I'm saying?
TXBLU 11-05-2006, 08:03 AM OK, I just looked at the tail lights this morning. They are definately different than the fogs. I might have to look at modifying the fog light housings to get a 3157/1157 socket to fit them. I'll post results as I get them...
