: SRT as a daily driver, any impressions?
o2bwln 11-02-2006, 07:13 AM Hi guys,
I've got a lifted WJ (3 inch lift) that i use as a daily driver, but now that i'm looking to but the srt i wanted to hear your opinions of it as a daily driver down here in Atlanta (meaning lots of traffic, did i mention lots of traffic).
I'm already used to the low gas mileage of my WJ, but are there any good/bad/ugly conclusions that you guys have to share.
Thanks,
o2bwln
MrHemi 11-02-2006, 07:22 AM My SRT8 GC is a daily driver... 80 mile round trip everyday - got over 7,000 miles racked up so far. I absolutely love driving back and forth to work now! Mileage has been a steady 16.5 (90% highway/10% city). Get looks everyday :)
justyli 11-02-2006, 07:39 AM I use my SRT8 as a daily driver too. Drive 350 miles a week.
We've a lot of traffic here in Hamburg Germany.
My milage is (60% city) 10.98 mpg.
Ink Pump 11-02-2006, 08:20 AM Just got mine 2 weeks ago. - Drive to work every day just for the thrill - sounds good! Looks good! Only getting 10 MPG but worth it. I've got a cra in the garage that does 27 MPG but its SO boring. Plus I get the soccer comentary on the Sirrius radio - listened to Chelsea/Barcelona EUFA cup - great!
jlandbl 11-02-2006, 08:20 AM I drive 60 miles round trip everday. I love my commute because of this vehicle. 75% traffic, 25% highway = 13 mpg.
scbombsquad 11-02-2006, 08:25 AM Daily driver here too. I live in Charleston, SC and the traffic isn't quite as bad as Atlanta but people here can't drive so that makes up for it. The only bad thing about using it as a daily driver is that you have to get used to all the stares!! Just about everybody does a double take when you drive by, makes you think something's wrong with you jeep until you remember what you're driving. As for gas, I average about 12.5 and drive about 200 a week.
daily driver here. 10,000 in 5 months. I hardly ever drive my "sports car" any more. (C6 corvette.)
o2bwln 11-02-2006, 10:10 AM thanks for the input, it really helps. I'm still a few months away from buying the srt but the more i troll this forum, the more excited im getting.
i will have to get used to sitting 'lower' in this jeep. after having lifted jeeps my whole driving life it will be interesting to be in a low-rider :)
srt-8-inferno 11-02-2006, 10:21 AM The only problem with being a daily driver with lots of traffic is SITTING IN TRAFFIC while all those ponies rest....

And watching the gas gauge drift west. Mine is my daily driver and I've put 10000 km on it so far, the last 500 of those in snow and ice....while still running the stock tires :D.
NateO 11-02-2006, 11:27 AM ...the last 500 of those in snow and ice....while still running the stock tires :D.
I presume by this guy: :D
That this is working okay? Any driving impressions? 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds, rain, shine or snow?
I just went and got some gas yesterday, again, and bought a new ice/snow scraper/brush, misplaced my old one. The guy working the till asks "Are we supposed to get snow, soon?" I replied "Well, let's see... It's November, it's 31 degrees outside, and we're in Minnesota... Yes."
Daily driver here, ~130 miles a week, in big traffic. This thing is awesome! My commute went from a nightmare to not-too-bad at all, even having some great moments on every run. :D
Initally, I was a little concerned with the sensitive throttle in bumper-to-bumper traffic, but it's pretty managable... And the brakes are perfect for heavy, speed-shifting traffic.
mabosc223 11-02-2006, 11:45 AM I wish I drove mine everyday, but it just makes it that damn more special when I do drive it. It makes driving fun once again. And it makes all my other cars feel in superior. I love my baby, just waiting to get it blown. :D
SRT-8RAT 11-02-2006, 01:08 PM I drive mine every day and LOVE IT!!!!
Cops don't seem to look because it's a Jeep. So they don't think your speeding.;) :D
Can't wait to see how it is in the snow?
barho 11-02-2006, 01:12 PM Mine's a daily driver as well.
Luckily my daily drive totals only 12 miles
Although.....whe I stop and think about it.......THAT KINDA SUCKS! :(
Just about to hit the 5K mile mark. Purchased in mid July.
The 7" of clearence is limiting & curbing a wheel is possible.

I'm not sure it's even 7" clearance. The other day my wife managed to hook the spoiler on a carriage bolt holding a curb parking stop. Ended up popping all the plastic rivets holding the spoiler..... grrr. They all popped back into place and you can barely tell it's been damaged except the one rivet someone ran over before I drove back to the spot looking for them.
I'm getting an average 10.1 mpg........
Lucky for me gas is cheap here..... not sure I'd own this beast in the States.
srt8suv 11-03-2006, 03:43 AM :D As I said many times, I JUST love this car from all sides. I LOVE IT
NateO 11-03-2006, 08:53 AM It makes driving fun once again. And it makes all my other cars feel in superior.
It really does! But don't go and put your Grand National in Lake Superior!! ;)
I took a friend of mine out for a quick blast in the beast two nights ago, and she thanked me for the demonstration. "Demonstration?!" I inquired, "That was a reminder!!!" :D
Remember the beast! ;)

Just curious how much is gas over there??

Currently, just over $0.30 a gallon. I love this Jeep but don't think I'd be able to live with 10 miles to the gallon as a daily driver.
El Jefe 11-03-2006, 12:01 PM .30 a gallon!!?!?!?!?!? ship me some gas!
NateO 11-03-2006, 01:56 PM Currently, just over $0.30 a gallon.
Whoa!! Should you be allowed to post this? More power to you!
And here I thought $2.35/gallon merrited WOT GC SRT8 on a daily basis!! :D
limeylee 11-03-2006, 07:00 PM Daily driver, 10 mile round trip commute...so I come home for lunch most days to drive some more.
All side streets, averaging 10.6 mpg
NitroCrzy 11-03-2006, 09:17 PM .30 a gallon!!?!?!?!?!? ship me some gas!
I suspect the cost in shipping might make it a tad more expensive than what your paying now. Hazardous material and all..... plus the amounts you are going to need would make the cargo too tempting to hijack ;)
Mrdredd 11-14-2006, 11:57 PM hows everyones experience with it in the rain/water?
any issues with its height?
NateO 11-15-2006, 08:58 AM Opening up the throttle on a 90 degree left-hand turn, on wet pavement, before getting lined up was good for one serious fish-tail, while the front two wheels were glued down and functional... :D
Other than that, no issues with rain and water what so ever, including pedal to the floor at the light in downpour.
No height issues... Except the front air-dam, need to go into my underground garage very slowly.
I live in Seattle, and drive mine in the rain every day. Making standard adjustments for driving in the rain is a no brainer for me, so the car handles great in the rain.
drive like you stole it 11-15-2006, 07:58 PM got it in march and have put almost 16k on it...in and around the 5 boroughs of ny. you feel the bumps but then again you feel the centrifical force as well! the gas mileage is what you would expect...fitting of an animal like this. bottom line...buy it and drive it like you stole it! incidentally the claims of sub 5 dry or wet are conservative in the dry and a matter of grip when wet.
FastJeepSRT8 11-15-2006, 07:58 PM The 7" of clearence is limiting & curbing a wheel is possible.
It's more than just possible, it's damn near impossible not to hit them. I already have a bad ding in my rim where the rubber meets the wheel. The wife hit a curb the first time she drove it. She was hugging the curb when she parked it to keep the doors from getting dinged. Don't figure! I've almost done it twice myself.
I also drive mine daily every chance I get. I can honestly say that I enjoy driving this more than any vehicle I've owned. I live less than a mile from my office and I still have 3300 miles on it and I've only had it a little over a month. Since I can't seem to keep the pedal off the floor I'm averaging somewhere between 10 and 12 mpg and I couldn't care less. As far as the rain we just hit our rainy season here in Chicagoland and I'd have to say most of my problems are driver error. I'm all over the road. I'm just not used to it yet. My '98 had great horsepower but nothing like this beast. Once I get used to how she handles I'll be fine
I leave my pass mirror tilted down so i can judge where I'm at while backing into a scuff-free parking spot. :)
Mrdredd 11-15-2006, 08:31 PM i guess this is yalls first car with low profile tires hehehe
