: HID's and the factory alarm???
hound 11-02-2006, 03:44 AM I was just thinking today about people upgrading their headlights to HIDs. Since I am currently in Iraq and dont own an SRT yet, I was hoping you could answer this question. Does the factory alarm flash the headlights and if so, which set (high/lows/fogs)? This flashing of the headlights is murder to an HID kit and will cause failure of the bulbs.
I was thinking of these because if the highs flash, then it is not worth it to upgrade them and just use a bypass harness to increase voltage. Is there a way to disable the headlight flashing?

Actually it is the front and rear turn signals that flash when doors are locked or unlocked. You can turn this feature on and off. Not sure if it uses high or lows, but you can also turn off/on the headlamp delay, illuminated approach, and on/off with wipers feature. Only other headlight thing I can think of is SmartBeam....you choose this by turning lighting stalk to "A" for automatic which switches from high to low beams when approaching a vehicle. This should not effect anything as you will have already turned headlights on. Hope this helps.

Ditto. Mine does the same, and I haven't had one problem yet. ;)

Really I thought turning HID's on and off hurt them?
idealrides 11-03-2006, 09:36 PM turning them off before they warm up is said to shorten the life of the components. I'm not disagreeing with that, but the xenons in my wife's avalance still work great after 2 years of being tortured by the factory alarm which flashes them on and off quickly. Whenever the car wash guy is done cleaning the interior he locks it using the door button and she unlocks it using the Viper keyfob, which sets off the factory alarm for a minute. This happens at least once a week.
Also I put a xenon kit on my bike 7 years ago, and it gets flashed every time I start the engine. (headlight turns on with the ignition, turns off as you start the engine, then back on as soon as you let go of the start button). No problems yet.
by the way, I bought my bike's xenon kit from Randy, the same Randy selling the billet antennas on this site! Now he's rollin on 22's and I'm just a foo-sucka with stock rims. :D

i was an installer for a long time, whenever we did alarms or remote starts only the parking lights would flash( turn signals, emergency lights). hope that clears up any confusion about indicator flashes.

I agree...that is the way it works on my vehicles with aftermarket stuff. Factory setting, as I posted above, according to the manual, turn signals flash only. And yes, my headlights flash on unlocking too, BUT, that is only because I have the "headlights on with unlocking" feature/option activated thru the menu. They turn on with unlock and stay on for the length of time you choose. My guess is that those above who say lights come on, either knowingly or un knowingly, have this feature turned on also. I like that feature as well as the "illuminated path" one for use after shutdown in dark.
