: Beat an 08 corvette at the track

Did some bracket racing this weekend with the Jeep and surprised quite a few people. Beat the 08 z 51 six speed pretty bad. I ran a 13.06 to his 14.10 and beat him on reaction by .4 . He was way back there. He was new to the car and eventually got it down to a 13.7. The owner then ran the car and got it down to a 13.1 which would have made it a pretty good race. It should have more in it though. The guy also owns the race track and wanted to race me but the manager talked him out of it saying he wouldn't have a chance. Also beat a 99 Lightning. Ran a 13.11 to his 15.0 at 90. That thing really runs poor. Also got a 69 AMX 13.11 to 13.7. In street trophy he came the closest to my et. I would think with good driving the corvette should go at least a 12.6 to 12.8.

Nice work. Never got to go head to head with any of the Z06 vettes last week, but there were two Z06's at the track, and one reg c6. I don't think either one of the Z06s cracked the 12s. And I destroyed the reg C6 when I raced it. They have a real hard time hooking up without DR's.

NICE.....I bet you he went home and ordered some mods after being beat by a Jeep

He obviously didn't know how to drive. A new C6 vette will spank a stock SRT-8. They are mid 12's all day long.;)

I felt pretty good beating the first guy even though he couldn't drive. I felt a lot better about my time being better than the owner of the car because he should be able to drive as the track is his and he has an 8 second dragster he occasionally runs there. I doubt he will mod the c6, with his money he will probably just get the ZR1! Man if I can't get into the high 11's with my new Z06 I will sell it! I do have 335 x 35r 17 hoosier drag radials I will use on the Z but have no idea how they will hook as I haven't tried them yet. As a comparison I had a 05 C6 auto with et streets on same track a couple of years ago and ran a best of 12.8. I have run a best of 12.9 with the jeep with cold air and predator. I really wasn't impressed by the LS2 motor. Also ran a SS trailblazer on same track with programmer and cold air and my best time was a 14.2. I think that LS2 might be overrated on horse power. Also both LS2's would get heat soak by the third run and slow down about .4 to .5 . Not good for bracket racing. The jeep stays consistent all day. It's really worth the extra money!

Nice write up. Congrats on the times. Sounds like you have a pretty quick truck out of the box.

2BADGN, I want to differ with your Corvette statement.

A regular stock C6 stick is hard as heck to get great times out of.

I am a well above average gear jammer, and those things either burn or bog.

I am sure with some practice I could squeak off clean 12.7s or so. ...but when I
drove my old boss', I only managed 13.2s at like 109 mph. (I think)

An automatic with a good launch, prolly could crank off mid to high 12s consistently?

Z06s............hard to launch effectively also on stock rubber, but they can make up ground quick.

A 08 LS3 C6 can hit a high 11 with the "driver mod". A C6 Z06 with tires can hit 10.99..... Its all about the driver.

A 15.0 is a piss poor time for a '99 Lightning. Still not in Jeep territory, though.

Any car is only as good as the person driving it. You have to remember on the street, the guy is probably not on DR's with lowered tire pressure, and heated up from a burnout. So right there, a 11.0 car is more like a 12.0 car, and thats assuming that he doesn't spin or miss a gear.

The beauty of the Jeep is that its consistent. All the power makes it to the ground, ALL the time... just point and shoot. (Assuming you're in a sub 500rw jeep)

Wish I lived where you guys do... Where I live you don't spank C6s running high 12s/low 13s... :(

I think that LS2 might be overrated on horse power.

Uh... Lets bust some math our here really quick (in case this stuff is lost of anyone)..

LS2 = 400hp (rated)
Assume 15% DTL %
400 * 15% = 60hp
Rearwheel power would be 340 (rwhp)

http://ls1racer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=415
001- 358.4 Tq 356.4 HP
002- 355.1 Tq 355.2 HP
003- 356.2 Tq 353.3 HP

Yeah they are terribly 'over rated'...after all GM is well know for over rating their numbers (please note sarcasm)
