I thought 2.75, but link is probably better source than my conjecture. Most aftermarkets are a full 3. I welded in a Magnaflow muffler into the stock system and you can see the difference in the sizing from pics going to the over the axle and out to resonators and from the Kooks high flow cats, in order of pics. the flange connecting to the muffler was what remained from the cut out stock muffler. Hope the photos help you visualize the difference from stock to a full 3 inches.

It looks like going to a 3" diameter muff. will allow for a good 'step" to weld on.

I say, roll with the 3"..

I was thinking the same thing. I have the reso's cut out right now and would like to have a free flowing exhaust set up without dropping a grand on an after market cat back. I'm pretty sure you will see the same HP gains from a new muffler as you would with a new cat back for a fraction of the price. I think then i might get some new tips to replace the stockers and call it a day.

Now which muffler to get is the question.

Some photos of one option for a cut in muffler. Magnaflow 12599. The spread is a little wider than our pipes run, but I've been pleased with the sound and what feels like increased flow. It has a true x pipe, as pictured below. I ran consistently low 12.6s with the stock catback on (kooks headers and hiflow cats), and am hoping to run again soon with this muffler installed. With temps increasing down here, it'll be tough to mimic the DA and temp conditions of the last time I ran, holding all other factors the same, to assign any +/- change to the new muffler that isn't just margin of error. But really, who needs a reason to go to the track anyway. 402vette suggested this, and after reading up some, picked one up. Thanks for the suggestion. Pleased with the results. I am sure there are other options out there. Sorry for thread hijack.
