: NEED immediate response/comments on dealer protection packages
silverbullet 05-06-2008, 11:16 AM I am picking up my ride tomorrow.
They are asking if I want the 'protection' package.
I am asking them to break this package appart and am considering the
a) Undercoating
b) protection between door panels.
They claim its Mopar and carries a lifetime rust warranty.
So, my question is... is this worth it? Has anyone else did the undercoating and rust protection either with Mopar or not?
Mango 05-06-2008, 11:50 AM I don't think I have either of these on my car....there is definetly no undercoating spray on my truck. I'd say it's a waste of money but what do I know...
silverbullet 05-06-2008, 12:13 PM Thanks Mango! Just wondering if the 'rock chips' we get underbody from tire spray will eventually result in rust!
championjeep 05-06-2008, 12:28 PM First thing....It is definitely not Mopar!!!
Find out what company they use.
I use the protector here, and at the right price it is definitely worth it. Let me know what company they are using, how much they are charging, and what coverages are included.
I will let you know how much you should pay if at all.
The company I use covers damn near everything visually and also covers dents and dings and rips and tears.

Don,
The dealer is doing it themselves so they say.
For $550 CAD, they will do the undercoating and rust proof all doors etc. They said that it's a Mopar product and it carries a lifetime warranty.
Does this sound about right?
They wanted $985 if I wanted leather protector and paint protection to which I said NO!
EROD10379 05-06-2008, 12:46 PM I had the NorthWest Protection package applied when I bought my 2008. They do undercoating, paint protection, and interior protection. If ANYTHING goes wrong with paint, undercoating, or interior, they fix or replace or repaint at no additional cost. It' slike having an insurance policy on those items IMHO. I took it - I have no problem letting them give m enew itmes if necessary.
nchargeny23 05-06-2008, 12:51 PM when i bought my gc.i said no to everything they were trying to sell me. Etching for the windows, full warranty coverage, etc.
promo718 05-06-2008, 01:07 PM all that ****'s a ripoff, don't go for it
championjeep 05-06-2008, 01:13 PM all that ****'s a ripoff, don't go for it
I would love an explanation on that...
ResumeSpeed 05-06-2008, 01:13 PM ...I'd say it's a waste of money but what do I know...
You are right on. It's a big waste of money, unnecessary, and a ripoff. It may also cause more harm than good as if not applied perfectly may allow water to become trapped. Modern vehicles don't need it. Keep your car washed regularly and you will be better off.
silverbullet, when it's time to hit the finance office to finalize the paperwork DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT add a single item that is going to be pushed your way. NO undercoating. NO paint protection. NO leather protection. NO window etching. NO extended warranty. NO seven virgins. IF you add ANYTHING to your purchase price in the finance office then you will have just been suckered.
SlickBrick 05-06-2008, 01:14 PM Our truck are heavy enough - I didn't get the under coating!
08srt8Calgary 05-06-2008, 01:17 PM I clawed them down to $600 something CAD for interior and exterior. The undercoating they use is actually impressive and is a thick black spray similar to a spray in box liner. It's friggin winter here 8 months a year so I figured what the hell. I asked if I got this package if it covered the whole vehicle and they said yes.
I would say it all depends where you live. Only you know how bad the winters are where you are and how much driving you will be doing. If I lived in LA, I would never have got it, but I live in the land of $hity weather.
ResumeSpeed 05-06-2008, 01:48 PM I clawed them down to $600 something CAD for interior and exterior.
That means then that they only made $500 profit on that part of the "deal"...

It make sound "impressive" but regardless of what climate that you live in it is totally unnecessary and is one of the biggest rip-offs in the auto industry.
Bottom line: You threw away $600, run a greater risk of having rust, and have added unnecessary weight to your vehicle.

I dont recall saying it "sounds" impressive. That is retarded. I climbed under my buddy's 07 who works there and had a look exactly what product was applied where. It LOOKS good. The interior scotch guarding might come in handy with a 15 month old kid. Sure there is a premium in there, but if it does rust (probably not) or if I pick up a stain (PROBABLY) - I dont have to deal with it. Drop it off pick up a loaner and pick it up clean/new. All together the package is worth a couple hundred bucks, and the rest is in their pocket.
Having said that because I bought this giant waste of money package I have already had my front seat bolsters re-wrapped. I complained the stock leather wrinkled too quickley and they wrapped it in new leather that is 1000X better. Looks the same but is 3x thicker. That job would have run the dealer a good chunk of loot. Search " seat replacement" pics of my $hit being replaced at 5K. Call me a sucker again. I am a sucker with KING RANCH leather seats.
mikeT 05-06-2008, 02:13 PM I think the tire warranty may be worth it though on our trucks with such low profile tires!
austino 05-06-2008, 03:11 PM Picked mine up yesterday and the only warranty I went with was on the rims and tires. It was only 300 bucks and seemed like a no-brainer considering cost of replacements.
Razorecko 05-06-2008, 04:45 PM ^ people the tire warranty sucks - its always a 3rd market warranty company for that sh*T and they'll always find a way to deny a claim.

hmmm, cause I have already had a few poeple use it with no problems......
One claim alone was a $1,600 repair.
And that 3rd market company you are talking about....goes by the name of daimler chrysler
ResumeSpeed 05-06-2008, 05:03 PM ...goes by the name of daimler chrysler
So they cover 19.9% of the warranty? :D

Thats sucks, did you cancel the warranty through them?
mikeT 05-06-2008, 05:14 PM yeah...I would have at least tried to get that $ back...do you know the name so I can check to see if it's the same one I have?
Razorecko 05-06-2008, 05:55 PM Thats sucks, did you cancel the warranty through them?
It ended up going to chrysler when the vehicle was lemon'd and a new one was put in its place - though i've been going to your service dept since after the lemon' deal my dealer became @ssholes.
