: What are the chances for a 6.4 in the 2010 model year?
SRT8UUP 04-25-2008, 06:25 AM ResumeSpeed/championjeep/anyone,
Just like the title says, what are the chances?
I know the 2010 is the last model year for this model, so it would make more sense to intorduce the 6.4 in 2011 when the new year comes out.
Anything on the rumor mill?
I know this has been posted to death, and I have been searching on here. The best I can get is that the 6.4 is "still planned for production".
When?
MatFab 04-25-2008, 06:26 AM If the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup.. theres a chance
SRT8UUP 04-25-2008, 06:27 AM In that case, LETS GO RED WINGS.
I'll be ready to buy in October of 2009.
SRT8UUP 04-25-2008, 11:00 AM Seriously. Anyone?
mikeT 04-25-2008, 11:12 AM 2 chances.....slim and none
CRZYCUBAN2 04-25-2008, 01:24 PM This is what Im waiting for. Dont know how much longer I can hold out. Hopefully as we get closer to the release of the new gen, we will get better info if it will have the 6.4.

Stop waiting. I've getting tired of watching you wait. Just get one.
promo718 04-25-2008, 01:37 PM from what's been said by people who are closer to being in the know than you and i, we will not see the 392 or 426 in a production vehicle from chrysler in the foreseeable future.
i wouldn't be surprised if, after the current production run is over with the 2010 model year, the 6.1 was eliminated all together from the jeep platform.
mortimer 04-25-2008, 01:57 PM Why wait? Just buy one.
I was in the same boat several months ago hoping for the 6.4L in the 2009 model year. If you wait and it doesn't happen you'll just be pissed you waited so long. Let's face it I think everyone is in agreement it's a slim chance the 6.4 will be seen in 2010, more likely 2011 but still slim. Just do it! Search for posts by ResumeSpeed about the 6.4L he seems to have the skinny on everything, even he doesn't know for sure -- if they were planning on doing it you'd think there'd be some info available from insiders by now.

I'd have to agree. The rising cost of fuel has pretty much killed the HP wars.

Hey Resume..GREAT to hear from you.
Did not know if we lost you after the last SRT chat BS.;)
IMO you have been invaluable to this forum.
Bill
Razorecko 04-25-2008, 10:35 PM when is that federal 35mpg requirement - like 2012 - next few years we are going to have monstoursly high hp vehicles and than we are all going to drive prious's. - I'll drive a prius if they can make one drive by itself so than i can go to sleep- because thats how much fun it'll be.
chgometro 04-25-2008, 10:37 PM I spoke to someone at Champion (2) weeks ago and was told that they are coming out with a 6.4 in the near future......

Couldn't have said it better..........Good to see him post. And if the 50/50 is referring to Mango's chances, numbers are probably more in the 20/80 range. LOL..........just kidding Mango, just kidding. :D

I'm still around, not too much to report on lately, other than to keep trying to convince Challenger owners that production did not start in January, nor February, nor March, nor last week...
As far as the 6.4, no new solid info to report. It was on the schedule for all SRT8 models at one time (2009-2010) but plans have possibly been changed. I should have some more solid info in a few more months

The Vipers done too...

I actually was worried about getting an SRT-8 before they were discontinued. Hopefully they'll become sought after like the supra's when the only thing you can get are green friendly cars.

Party is far from over, you are talking several more model years on the Viper (2009, 2010, 2011). Next gen Corvette is not due until ~2012. Next gen of SRT8 models is now under development (2011MY)...
Str8Srt8 04-27-2008, 05:14 AM I'll be California gets the big 6.4 shaker before Chrysler does.

I think we all agree ~2012 is the end of the current run in this run up in fantastic HP. We'll hit $5/gal gas well before then and by 2012 it's supposed to be $7/gal.
After that it probably doesn't matter if they make a 700HP $20K JGC 10.0L SRT/10 if it does 12MPG and you have to pay $150/tank to fill it. If you fill it once a week that is near $10k/yr and unless things are much different by then it will make a significant impact on sales.

if i knew that there was a "700HP $20K JGC 10.0L SRT/10" coming in 4 years i'd start stockpiling fuel :D

Would you use it as a daily driver though?
navyavi469 04-27-2008, 10:26 AM The horsepower wars aren't over, they're just going to evolve. People will still crave speed regardless of propulsion type.
If I were the man in charge of the SRT8, i'd slap in a turbocharged 4.0L 6 Cylinder with a 4-Cam VVT Head, MDS, Direct Injection, Forged pistons and crank w/ 9.5:1 static compression. 6-Speed Gearbox, And Variable Geometry 72mm turbo. Derate it to 450HP @7000RPM / 9psi. Expect 18city/26hwy.
Then I'd work on lightening the WK, take out the heavy ass axles, replace with light aluminum gearboxes with 4 wheel indpendent suspsension and big fat halfshafts. 4700lbs is way too heavy for the size of the Jeep; comparable SUVs from other manufactueres weigh-in 300-400lbs less.
But hey, thats just me.
Untouchable 04-27-2008, 10:36 AM I agree, but this car pushes 50k now for a new one with a 16v pushrod motor.
All that tech would be great, and we see it now in cars like the 911 turbo.
It would then cost a great deal more, esp with all the weight-loss tech.
then you are looking at "more than $50,000" for a jeep.
navyavi469 04-27-2008, 11:34 AM I somewhat disagree, all that technology has been on the market now for a number of years. VVT has been used by the Japaneese in just about every perfromance econobox for the last 5-7 years.. it doesn't seem to cost them much more. Ford has been putting 4-cam motors in their cobras since the 1990s. Direct injection doesn't cost any more money, you just have to machine cylinder heads with the injector in them, vice putting them in the intake runners. Turbocharging is NOT NEW, its used in every diesel on the planet and has been around for the better half of a century... Head units are ridiculously cheap. I would expect the cost of a fuel efficient performance engine to go up around 5000 bucks.
SRT8UUP 04-28-2008, 06:09 AM Well I am on schedule to get a 2009-2010 Jeep after I get married at the end of 2009. HOPEFULLY the 6.4 will be ready to roll by the 2010 model year. That will make it easier (perhaps with MDS too? she is concerned about gas mileage...LOL)
The Jeep was part of the bargain, I got her a Tiffany engagement ring and she will help me out with a downpayment on the Jeep.
Yea I got a good one....

What are those poor Challenger owners going to do when they still don't have their cars in September, and when the CAW workers go out on strike in September, Brampton could be down for a while. CAW have already said no way to two-teir wages!!!!
turbo_neon 04-28-2008, 11:57 AM ^^^^ agreed!

WTF??? Well apparently you don't even have a jeep yet so.... And since you like to bring up your 03 cobra, you should go join a a ford forum....:boohoo:
SRT8UUP 04-30-2008, 06:26 AM Been there, done that. Later.
Thread hijacking is not cool.
And NO I don't have a Jeep yet.....booo hooo.
DABEARS1 04-30-2008, 09:19 AM Who's thread hijacking? Just replying to ResumeSpeed about the Challenger situation. I assume this thread was started to ask people in the know (who actually work at chryslers) if they heard anything about the 6.4L Since I do work there and talk with engineers from Auburn Hills, I've heard nothing concrete on the matter. I would suspect yes, or at least revamp the 6.1 like they did with the new 5.7. With that being said I've seen Chrysler spend 150 million to build a new paint shop (outer shell) only to let it sit for 3 years then tear it down.... So they do what they want to do....
gpfarrell 04-30-2008, 10:23 AM I think a better question would be "Will there be a 6.1 in 2009".
Did you get your little Jeepie magazine in the mail from Jeep? Did you notice how much they don't say about the SRT-8?
Jeep does not want to be the poster-child for outlandish fuel consumption (ala Hummer) so now all the hype is on the diesels and those little not-quite-a-Jeep things they make.
I hope I'm wrong, but hi-po vehicles usually make a grand entrance and a silent exit from the market place. I don't think anybody anticpated gas at $4 or oil at $120/barrel, the market place has changed and Jeep's plans may change too.
Besides, if the regular Hemi is pushing 370hp I could see a detuned SRT-Design version instead. All the trim, all the suspension, noisy pipes, but no 6.1 motor. I know this won't be popular, but if you're holding your breath for the best Jeep SRT now might be the time to be writing a check.
shodanusmc 04-30-2008, 11:08 AM Yuo will see TT's. Turbo's, V-6's, and 4's.....Hybreds and Diesels....I also doubt if you will see a 6.4. There is a lot they could do to the 6.1 if they really wanted to. Look at what BMW gets out of the 335, or Subaru gets from a 4. I know, its not a V-8....I hope they continue to produce and offer them. Guess I wll keep my E55 forever.
silverbullet 04-30-2008, 11:15 AM I would not be surprised if the SRT8 is not heavily advertised and be strictly a dealer order only. I will also not be surprised if dealers do not order them UNTIL a customer places an order and a non-refundable deposit.
With the gas prices the way they are, these rigs and gas guzzlers are not that popular.
Having said that though, I anxiously await picking mine up next week! Who gives a damn about gas prices... who gives a damn if tree leaves fall everytime I gas this beast. I live for here and now. I WANT MY JEEP!
Please, no flames. This is only me venting my PERSONAL thoughts!

Well Put!
Our '08 turned 12,000 miles yesterday and I've got no regrets.
SRT8UUP 04-30-2008, 02:00 PM I wouldn't be surprised either. Good point.
I just hope they don't put a kibosh on the SRT-8 Jeep since I won't be actually getting a Jeep for over a year from now.
