Is it okay to use an octane booster in our jeeps? If so, which one works the best and would it be okay to use it all summer?
It gets up to 120 degrees in the summer. I live in Northern CA and only have crappy 91.

I wouldnt do it. Just throw in a Techron Fuel System Cleaner every oil change.

Rule of thumb: NEVER use ANY additives in your vehicle.

There is no need to "boost" the octane numer. The computer cannot tell if you have 91 or 101. If you put 89 in it will adjust for it (ie: more fuel and timing change). Anything above 91 is wasted. ps: if you go up in elevation the octane need is less. Also, from a refinery standpoint the 2 extra points are a waste except for marketing. :D

^ i heard if you put octane booster it'll leave weird @ss gunk around your cylinders. Anyhow its not worth it just a waste of $$$ - if you want octane put some unleaded 100 in if you can find it.

I have the 91 CIA tune/preditor, and am getting 2-3 on the ST knk sensor. A little booster would help, but it sounds like its not a good idea.
I envy you guys that can get 92 octane or higher fuel. I might have to go back to the stock tune during summer or reduce the timing a degree or 2.

I ran at the track on Friday with the 91 CIA tune, did great, 13.08 @ 104.5

Then I tried adding 2 more degrees of timing and went .3 slower. I could feel it was slower. It was about 65 degrees at 500ft elevation.

^ keep in mind sleeper that different gas stations will have different quality gas- even if its all the same 91 or 92...so try different gas stations and monitor your knock.

+1 Most octane boosters are just pure ethanol anyway. In many areas 93 octane is nothing more than 91 with 5% or so ethanol anyway. As long as the ethanol content is below a certain percentage (can't remember what the number is) the fuel carrier/supplier doesn't have to notify you it contains ethanol. It's a cheap way to add octane. I used to work for a petroleum pipeline company.
