: Is dealer trying to screw me???
Kramer00 10-17-2006, 06:57 PM I'm new to this forum and have a question. Went to the dealer tonight to try and order an SRT8 with the navigation system and Option Group I...price came in at around $45,000 but the dealer added an additional $5,000 mark-up. He told me that was better than the $10,000 they're usually supposed to charge. I told him no thanks. Is this mark-up common with SRT8's???? Don't know if it matters, but I'm in the Chicagoland area. Any input would be appreciated.
Lannon 10-17-2006, 07:10 PM i got mine for 40k out the door with group 1 package. no trade or down payment. than again my uncle is high up at the dealer. the mark ups i would have no about. doesnt sound to common to me to tack that on.

Black_SRT8 10-17-2006, 07:20 PM The mark-up was common for the first month of release, but now, it is a joke. Do not pay a dime over retail, and if you put forth diligence, you can probably locate a dealer that is willing to sell at invoice.
Tell that sleazy dealer his mark-up is insulting and you refuse to be jerked around. If he retorts with a snide remark, WALK!

Wow, the old "we'll only charge you $5k over, that's a great deal as we usually get $10k."
That salesman is an asshat, run far away.
Matter of fact, why don't you post that dealers name....so others can avoid it.
runutzzzzz 10-17-2006, 08:16 PM I got the same from a few dealers when shopping.
How about 5k over? No well how about sticker? You're lucky because we usually charge 5k over.
After weeks of shoping and teasing I finally got a deal I couldn't refuse :) About $800 under invoice!
BTW I am in NoVA, the land of everything hot is $10-30K over sticker!
capitalst 10-17-2006, 08:32 PM Don't paying anymore then $1k over invoice. That is what I signed for on my 2007. Still waiting but, knowing I didn't pay MSRP or over helps me make it through the next day waiting and waiting and waiting. Hopefully I will see it before Thanksgiving to show it off. Also, after I sealed the deal I was able to get them work a deal on the paint, interior, bottom paint protection package for just over $700. Let me know how it goes.

Are you really going to get the Paint, interior and bottom protection???
BTW nothing beats the way a BMW drives :)
Ink Pump 10-17-2006, 09:11 PM I wouldn't pay over by that much. Just like Capitalist I ordered at close to list
NOTE however we don't have our cars and I'm not really sure when it will come
I sold my Yukon based on the original delivery date and am driving a boxster. I think that's why we had snow early
Kramer00 10-18-2006, 10:44 AM Thanks for all the replies. I'm definitely going to keep shopping around for my SRT8. BTW, anyone looking for one around Chicago, stay away from Mancari's.
SI_G35Coupe 10-18-2006, 02:27 PM i'm sorry this might be slightly off-topic, however it just happened to me and i thought i would ask.........
i called a local dealership today that was showing 3 SRT8's in their inventory according to the Jeep website. i simply asked if they had a GC SRT8 in stock that i could look at in person, sit in, and possibly test drive.
the guy on the phone told me that i couldn't take a test drive until we sat down and talked about pricing, etc?
has anybody ever experienced this before? this would be my third new car, first a Volvo and then my Infiniti. i have never had a dealer tell me this before, even the snooty salespeople at Infiniti... is this a normal thing?
omegaman 10-18-2006, 02:30 PM When I bought my 2006, my dealer wasn't letting anybody drive it until the deal was done. I don't know if that's normal but it happened to me. But at the very least, it prevented 50 random people from driving the truck just out of curiosity.
07SRT8 10-18-2006, 02:36 PM you really shouldnt pay much over invoice.....I ordered mine and waited a long time but paid $100.00 over dealer invoice
GodfatherSRT8 10-18-2006, 02:36 PM Mine was okay with me test driving the SRT8 only because this was my 3rd. Jeep from the same dealership, but my salesman did tell me that they dont really allow test drives until after they have crunched numbers with the customer and they feel the customer is serious about buying the truck.
My truck had 8 miles on it when I test drove it.
Dr.Steve 10-18-2006, 03:26 PM It is true, when I was shopping earlier this year I only found one dealer that would let me take the beast off the lot before I signed the deal, others said that they would not allow anyone to put miles on it unless they were purchasing the truck. . . I also agree that the dealer in Chi-town is shamefully slimy, and hope you find a good deal elsewhere. . . good luck joining us in the "I smile every time I get into my ride" club!
Beltfed 10-18-2006, 04:14 PM you really shouldnt pay much over invoice.....I ordered mine and waited a long time but paid $100.00 over dealer invoice
Honestly, it really depends on where you are geographically.....that's aggressive pricing (invoice to below invoice).
Locally, you have to shop to get $1k-$1500 over invoice. But you can get it.
Last weekend I saw a guy sign for a SB SRT at MSRP (happened to stop at a different dealer than mine).
PorscheSRT8 10-18-2006, 07:09 PM I got lucky and the President/Owner of the dealership had a GC SRT8 on the road so I got as much of a test drive as I wanted.
However I think it is pretty reasonable that unroaded, brand new GC SRT8s are NOT test driven unless a signed deal is on the table. After all I know I would not want to be the owner of the brand new vechicle that had been test driven by 10 other people with 200 clicks on it.

anyways, i apologize to the original poster for getting this thread alittle off track

Dealer I ended up going with (due to $) awhile back said I could order the vehicle, "when it comes in you can test drive it......if you aren't satisfied you can pass on it."
But on an in stock vehicle that I wasn't taking, no test drives.
Luckily I did find an 06 a few months ago that I was able to test drive. I didn't feel that bad, this 06 had around 180 miles on it. They sold it a few days later.
drive like you stole it 10-19-2006, 08:51 PM Bought mine in April and got it for 500 under sticker...i live in the north east though and the dealers here get more alotted. They did let me test drive it but only around the block. In June and July there were those on this site saying they had gotten the Employee Pricing deal. I would tell the dealer I can buy it from wherever at 1500 under retail and have it shipped in for 750...
jms935 10-21-2006, 01:08 PM Kramer00, I live in Chicago, and ordered from out of state because of all the local crooks here.
viperr817 10-21-2006, 01:56 PM My girfriend got hers here in toledo ohio for 2,000 under my employee price. The dealer really wanted to unload it. So check around to see if there are dealers around that have srt8's and cant sell them. Also find out if a friend or realative can get you their employee price! It'll save ya alot.

Untouchable 10-21-2006, 09:38 PM Allow me to relay my experience...
As much as we love them ( and I do), there are not that many of "us" out there and "we" either have our trucks by now or have them in the process of being made. The people who were going to buy this truck bought it either when it came out or soon thereafter. Those who were teetering in the shadows were given their chance when EP came out.
GC SRT8 owners are not born or made overnight, nor should they be.
You do not "just now" notice this vehicle and go to your dealer to inquire.
You (like me) traced it from a rumor and auto show pics and watched the first few go on eBay for crazy prices and waited in the wings, watching those auction everyday. Hoping, waiting, watching. Then when you couldnt take it anymore you went to your local dealer "just to look". In my case I was greeted with an agressive Italian woman who needed to make a sale and handed me the keys to a red SRT8. We went for a drive and she let me get on it. I was sold at that point and it was hard as hell to keep that "well, its okay" look on my face. I ended up getting a black one that mysteriously appeared in the their inventory a few days later after an all out war with the dealer that wanted 50k for the truck. I hung up several phone calls and printed out rebate coupons on the internet and went in and walked out yet again when they tried to BS me. The next day I made a deal for 43k. I felt like I won. Then a month later EP came out and my efforts were all for not.
Its funny, I was close to buying another one at EP and selling mine for what I paid for since there was a little window where most people didnt know about the srt jeep being in EP and werer still paying good numbers for the Jeep. But then I took a look at that beast sitting in my garage and all it went throgh to get it and I couldnt let it go. But I digress...
Back to the matter at hand.
Market adjustments are now cattle fodder. Dont take them for sh!t. These cars are not an easy sell anymore and dealers want to get rid of them however they can. They WILL go down. And if for some reason they are delusional and dont work with you, proudly walk out the door. There are MANY GC SRT8s sitting on lots in the country (06s and 07s) just waiting for a home. Go become a proud parent...:D

mrfamous 10-21-2006, 10:17 PM I've found that the price depends a lot on what part of the country you are targeting. My dealer wanted $9000 above sticker, but that notion quickly faded when they found out I would just purchase the vehicle from a different dealer out of state. It didn't matter to me where I bought it, because the farther away from home it was, the longer I would enjoy the drive home.
I still haven't bought one yet because my current vehicle hasn't sold and I'm not willing to trade it in for the price they are currently offering me. I haven't had any luck finding a fair price for a used one even though I've heard people quote some pretty good prices for the '06's. My advice is keep looking until you find the right deal!
QBNKID 10-21-2006, 10:41 PM Any info when/if DCX will be offering Employee Pricing (EP) again?
SI_G35Coupe 10-22-2006, 02:22 AM Any info when/if DCX will be offering Employee Pricing (EP) again?my guess would probably be towards the end of the 2007 model year to unload them before the 08's come in, but who knows
