It has been discussed in the past, but has anyone come up with any ideas for getting snow tires for 20 inch rims? Possibly a separate set of 20's with snow tires?

from my experience with snow tires, they dont makes the rim diameter more than 17' on the thread so youre going toi have to buy a new set of rims, got for some cheap ones possibly even used, good luck

Sorry, link didn't work. But if you search Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z3 with UNI-T on that site you'll see they make a 265/50/20

Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow are available in 255/45/20. Very good snow tires. They are Severe Snow Tire approved by Transport Canada.

Scorpion are the way to go, good luck finding some. As far as I know there are none available in Canada. They are expecting to have some made in the next couple of weeks.

I just got done looking at Pirelli's site.

They offer the Scorpion ICE&SNOW in a 295/40R20 and 265/45R20

These are probably the sizes I will run.

At the moment there are no Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow in Canada. I cheched with several tire shops in Calgary and they could not get any. They are telling me that Pirelli will not be making any more 20" snow tires for the rest of the year. I got this info from most of the tire shops. I ended up going to www.Tirerack.com and ordered a set out of the States. They are expecting a shipment from Pirelli at the end of October and I was told that I would have a set by Novemeber 5th. I delt with a guy named Dallas and he was pleasure to deal with. I got the 4 tires shipped to my door for less that $1000. Basically $600 lower than my lowest quote from anyone here in Calgary. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?search=true&performance=W&width=255%2F&ratio=45&diameter=20&x=16&y=12

Any idea on what you will need to do when the tires hit the border and Customs holds them to collect duty ?

Define "this". All we have from you are words without any photos or usefull information to prove what you're saying other than, waa waa waaa, I know it works, I saw it with my own eyes, waaa waaa waaa...

This is the internet, people say anything they want and "some" people actually believe everything they say and read no less...

I called tirerack today and was told that the 275/40/20 would work all around. Since I have no idea if this is true, can anyone help here. They are asking $244.00 a tire for these Pirellis and I was also told that these tires will fit on our stock rims.

I don't know for sure if they will fit. I can tell you that the Toyo Proxy's in 255/50's rub the inside of the front wheel well every so slightly. A 275/40 snow tire, man, I just don't know... I plan on going with the smaller size for the front...

I ordered the 255/45VR-20 Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow. $222 a piece. They would ship it to Canada for a little over $100 if I recall correctly. They shipped them out on Friday and I should have them in a week or so. As for duty I am not sure how much but I am sure it will be cheaper than any of the quotes I got here. I even know an owner of a tire local tire shop and he can't beat the price. One thing I learned this summer was when I ordered a set of 22" Panther Realms with Toyo rubber for my 05 4Runner. I had to set up a import # with revenue Canada (which tok about 10 minutes) as the value was over $1500. I paid $38o for shipping to my door for all 4 and about the same in brokerage fees and duty/GST. Either way I should have these Scorpions mounted and balanced for less than $1300 cnd. I drove the GC today in some fresh snow with the stock rubber, not great but you can get around. I will post some pics as soon as I get them mounted.

Where in Canada are you that you have snow already? i just bought a 1997 GC instead of snow tires so I can get around if the snow gets too crazy and i don't want to be out with my GCSRT8 (which is not here yet anyway). I figure with new Goodyear RSA's it won't be too bad.:) :)

The OEM RSA tires on our Jeeps in serious snow/ice/slush on hilly roads with major inclines and declines are useless unless you don't value your SRT.. On flat roads with "powder" type of snow they "should" be ok...

It all depends on how much we expect from our vehicles in the snow, what type of snow we get and where we live.. We CAN'T go off of anyone's "word" unless they live in the exact same living conditions as you...

Hey JstFly,
I live in Calgary where we got a couple of inches over the weekend. Enough to make people drive like retards, for some people it is like starting to drive all over again with the 1st snowfall each year.

One complaint that I have is that when you turn your traction control off, the stupid vehicle stabilization system still kicks in when you go side ways....no fun. Any one know how to turn this off?

Pop the hood, pull open the computer cover and pull the ABS pump fuse. Problem solved. You won't have any ABS though.

I bought my last set of summer tires (Toyo Proxes S/T) for my Murano from bigwheels.net in the U.S. I had to wait 4 days for them to clear customs and was charged a customs fee of exactly what the normal federal and provincial tax would have come out to. At the time I had no choice but to order from the U.S. as Canada wasn't selling the size I wanted.

The Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow tires look like they are on your stock rims? Must be same size front and rear as factory rubber? I called tirerack.com and they told me they don't even sell a Scorpion snow tire for the rear wheel of the SRT8 yet I seem to see them installed on your ride from tirerack.com. I told them I'm looking at a picture of a fellow Canadian vehicle with rubber from tirerack.com. He told me to grab another beer. Have I got the facts about what you did wrong?

You can find them here:

http://www.buywheelstoday.com/

Actually, scratch that, you can't find them there, but you can find other tires like the Toyo Proxes, but I guess that doesn't help.

Did you go with 255/40 or 275/40's from Tire rack. I put 275/40/20 Pirrelli on all 4 and have been gettin grief from my dealer that now the front and rears have a different diameter cause the rear wheels are fatter, stretching out the rear tires making them shorter and this could cause serious problems with the diff when the drivetrain tries to kick into 4wheel mode? Have you had any problems yet?

Redshift

Unless I'm missing something, your dealer is just not that smart.

Stock front tires: 255/45/R20 = 29.04" overall diameter
Stock rear tires: 285/40R20 = 28.98" overall diameter

The tires you used: 275/40R20 = 28.66" overall diameter

Front and rear differentials are both 3.73:1.

By using the same size tires front and back, you'll actually reduce the VERY slight stress that the stock tires can cause. Not only that, but your tires are only 1.3% different from the stock front tires and only 1.0% different from the stock rear tires. And the ONLY thing that matters for AWD is the diameter, width is not an issue!

When I tried to go from 235/65R18 on my Murano to 255/60R18 my dealer tried to tell me they would mess up the transmission and the speedometer. The diameter is only 1.0% difference between the sizes.

Tell the dealer that the belts on the tire, what holds the tire together does not change no mater what rim it is mounted on. The thought that it can change size does not hold water. The tire can't get bigger at the belts or the bead only thing that changes is the shape of the sidewall. You can move thing around a bit you can't change the size it is fixed by the way it is built.
