: How accurate is the SRT8 speedo?

Normally 100 on a speedo are maybe only 90 or 95.
But I read in a german car magazin today, they recognized while testing the truck, the speedo of a SRT8 displays not like most others to much, but less(!!) of the real driving speed.
Did anybody check the accuracy of the speedo with a handheld gps?
would you mind posting a link or scanning the article?
i guess the best way to figure out how off the speedo is would be to take along a GPS and compare

I was thinking the exact same thing this week. I belive that the speedo reads fast.
I have a handheld gps unit and will try to make a test this next week. Clearly, this test would just be applicable to our car, but might be somewhat indicative for all units.

Oh... I Heard That AWD Cars' Speedo Tend To Be More Accurate... It May Be Less Than The Actual Speed But Closer To It Than Other Speedo... Plz Correct Me If I'm Wrong...

0 - 80.78 mph = 8,4s
gps tested Topspeed 157.8356 mph
I read in the article, on downhill autobahn the topspeed goes gps tested up to 167.778 mph
Fuel economy mpg 12.98
Braking 62.14 -0 mpg, feet
cold brakes 133.53
warm brakes 131.57
Price around US$ 80,000
BAD ASP 10-16-2006, 09:57 AM i have a garmin gps that i use in the jeep. the speedometer is real close up to about 80 mph reading only about 1 mph difference. i haven't taken the car past 80 yet. i believe the speedo is pretty accurate.

I have asked him to drive 80miles on cruiser control, and i did the same, then i saw my car passing him, it felt like i was driving 83 or 84mph!
justyli 10-20-2006, 11:50 AM I did some innercity tests with a mobil garmin gps.
The difference to the speedo is from 37 up to 68 mph not much but average 1.37 mph.
40 with cruisecontrol on the speddo is 41,37 on the garmin.
That means the speedo is really to slow.
Did anybody check meanwhile too?
Anybody know what the top speed rating of the stock tires is?

You made to 290km? my best till today is 165mph = 265kmph
Rob Dance 10-22-2006, 08:08 AM I have a Road Angel - GPS speed indicator ( which also happens to warn of accident black sopts... and speed cameras)
It agrees with the SRT8 speedo throughout the range. = exactly the same.
Both my previous 4.7, and my sons Subaru turbo show between 5% and 10% less on the spedo compared to the GPS
No surprise that my TVR Cerbera showed between 10% less, and 20% more depending upon the weather !
