: New Bridgestone Dueler Runflats...!!

After inspecting my stock GY tires just the other day i found on the inside side wall of the front passenger tire the tread actually lifting off of the tire! I have known that the stock tires were junk from the begining but never did i expect this at only 19,000 miles. I had the tires inspected about 8,000 miles ago as part of the GY Customer Satisfaction Campaign but was told that they didn't qualify for replacement!! I have had it with Goodyear and will never run them on any of my vehicles again.

With that said i just ordered a set of the new Bridgestone Dueler Runflats!! I cannot wait to get them on the vehicle. I have an apointment on saturday and will keep everyone posted on how they ride and hook up!! Actually Saturday it is supposed to be raining here so ill let everyone know how they function in the wet weather.

Oh just so everyone knows the sizes of the new Bridgestones are as follows:

REAR 315/35/20
FRONT 275/40/20

Congratulations on the new tires.
Gary, remember they won't perform their best when brand new, especially on wet surface so be careful. After the first 200 miles or so they should be ok.
Yeah I'm also interested to see some pics of them, especially the 315s.
BTW, I feel the same about GY, and Bridgestone is my favorite tire brand, that's why all my vehicles have them on.

Hey Gary - you beat me to it ! The first official 315/275 runflat combo. I can't wait to get these pos goodyears off my ride too - these duelers have a really sweet aggressive tread to them ! And also the widest 315 too - keep us posted...now where the hell are my calipers so I can get my wheels on !!

how much for the bridgestone? just bought a 2007 red rock with 17000 miles last week. Stock tires are still good but if i am very intersted to hear what kind of ride you will get. You guys are right about the stock tires being a pretty stiff ride. If not bridgestone any other tires out there that will make the ride a little softer runflats or not. Hope the bridgestones kick ass because i will be considering getting them.

^ the whole bridgestone setup 315/275 is around $1100.00 through tirerack - their stock of the tire comes and goes alot because these are also the oem tires for the new porsche & bmw suv's. If its good enough for porsche & bmw its good enough for the jeep :D

After droping the vehicle off this morning i still do not have it back. I just called the tire place and they just finished the rears, but they had a hard time getting them on. Now they still have to do the fronts. I am a little nervous about my rims being marked up when i get back to pick it up!! It is a very good tire place that is doing it so im hoping things will be fine. I guess it won't be long now until i can inspect the work to make sure nothing has been damaged. Ill keep you posted and post pictures as soon as possible.

^ definitley inspect the wheels when you pick them up - actually grab the guy and ask him if you can walk around the wheels with him. It does take a while - what takes the most time is the mounting and the road force balancing - roughly 4hrs'ish. Its the lip on these wheels, they stick out so damn much they have to be extra carefull mounting them - can't wait for your review gary.

I just got back from picking her up! There is good news and bad news, as it seems there always is!!

GOOD NEWS: The tires look awesome!! Especially the 315 rears! They stick out of the fender just a bit and from behind it looks more aggressive than ever. First driving impressions are excellant. Ride seems to be a bit more comfortable than the Goodyears, but yet more responsive at the same time. I can't wait for some dry roads so i can throw this thing around some twisties!!

BAD NEWS: They snapped off one of the tire pressure monitoring sensors on the inside of one of the wheels wich they have already ordered and will be replacing on Tuesday. All four wheels look ok, except one 1" spot on the lip of one of the rear wheels. Wheel is not damaged but the clear coat has been chipped a tiny bit! I am as anal as they get and was on my knees in the parking lot inspecting them when i found it. I met no resistance from the manager and they will be repairing the wheel for me on tuesday when its back there for the busted TPMS sensor. The tires are certainly tight under the vehicle! I am amazed that they fit, but will be driving with the radio off for a few days to listen to ensure that there is no rubbing going on.

THE VERDICT: After only driving the vehicle a few miles i am very happy with the way the car drives. Before i had the tires changed i had a constant vibration from 70 all the way to 80 MPH. Now the vehicle is as smooth as it was the day i drove it off of the lot!

I will keep you all posted with how they ride and hook up once the roads are dry. I will try to post some pics soon! Stay tuned!!

Im not sure yet what PSI i am going to be running the tires at! Right now they are set at 33 wich may be ok seeing that we are headed in to spring and summer! I like to play with the pressure a bit to see exactly where i like it be. Any suggestions?

^ awesome - can't wait to throw mine on-been in the garage forever- i'm sure they look mean as hell as this tire is one of the widest 315's rears out there - bummer about the sensor & the mark but atleast it'll all be taken care of. I figured they would be more responsive because they still have those stiff runflat sidewalls that dont flex much & you wont have to worry about rashing the rims on curbs anymore with that much meat :D

Hey man! Sorry i haven't gotten to the pics. Im gonna try and take them today. Whats the best way to post them? I have never posted pics. Let me know. Dude seriously the tires are frigging amazing. I feel like im driving a different truck. They brake well, accelerate well, handle well, and the ride so smooth. Like i said i had a vibration between 70-80 MPH that i have ben complaining about for probably 6-7 months. Spent money on having a tiny bent rim repaired thinking maybe with any luck that was the issue, but it did not resolve the vibration! Install awesome tires! It feels smoother than it did the day i drive it off of the lot! Let me know about the pictures. I think i have to resize them correct?

Hey Gary glad I could help in making the choice to ditch the stock sh*tflats - I still can't believe how bad these tires are. Lookin forward to those pics tomorrow -Timster about your all season question I've seen the wheels being listed as all season and also as a performance tire that works on anything but deep slush. But as you can see in this link...

http://www.bridgestone.com.au/media/articles/duelerHP.aspx

Listed as an oem tire it needs to be decent in all weather conditions- I have come to the conclusion that ANY runflat tire will never be listed as having real good snow capability- look at our stock tires- they are decent in a couple inches of powder but anything more than that and we can have issues. I'd have to say that these tires are probally equal to if not better than stock in the snow as they are a future gen runflat.

My experience with the BWoody/Dueler combo. I got the BWoody sway bar
links in the group buy but never installed. My local Bridgestone guy was
able to get me Dueler Runflats in 315/35/20 rear and 275/40/20 combination same day. Apparently, there was one set already at the local distributor.

When they tried to install, they could not get the appropriate clearance on
either the original sway bar links or the BWoody’s.

The resolution that they came up with was flipping the original sway bar
links upside down and backwards, sending the bolts out toward the tires,
then they cutoff the bolt ends.

Have I read correctly, that someone has the BWoodys working with this setup?
Should I be concerned about running the factory links inside the flange?

After labor for screwing around with the links, $20.00 free gas promo, and $100 Bridgestone mail in rebate (expired 5/8) I'm at $1300.00 installed and road force balanced.

I love em, they look great to me, but I think I'm detecting a little rubbing on the passenger wheel well on a hard left.

I have the setup with the bwoody sway links and I have it running perfectly fine with the exception of the rear drivers side. That bwoody link is the one that sits on the outside of the wheel well...

http://www.cherokeesrt8.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13955&highlight=rubbin+bwoody

^ here is my thread about the issue w/ pics...

I bought a set of these

http://www.americanmuscle.com/maximum-motorsports-subframe-bolts.html?productid=maximum-motorsports-subframe-bolts&channelid=FROOG

and the threading is correct for the oem bolts so they would help - I dont know why your istaller would reverse the direction of the head and nut of the bolt as the nut sticks out farther towards the tire than the bolt would ??? What kind of installer is this ?? Anyway I get a little bit of rub on the rear drivers tire If i make long right turns from the top bolt head. Now I'm waiting on the eibach springs because if it drops an inch i'tll raise the tire above the top bolt a little and that with the low rise head bolt should keep me nice and clear. I might even not have to use the low rise head bolt. If i dont have to i wont as I'd like to keep everything of the same package and not start swapping parts in.

Is there any other size combination of these that will work? I've got the BWoody's and don't want to have to reconfigure. Is there a way to step down a size?

Razorecko
05-12-2008, 02:24 PM
^ just go with any non runflat 315/275 combo..the issue is that the Bridgestone duelers are runflat tires and because of this have a huge width. Its the widest measured 315 out of any others. So its more of a tires specific issue than a size because i have not heard of any rubbing on any other 315/275 tire. Of course i'm working around this because i love not having sidewall flex because of the runflat sidewalls.

Blown-WK
05-12-2008, 02:52 PM
Yes what Razor said is true. The Dueler runflats are 13" wide. If you go with the non runflats they are 12.7" so you most likely would not have a rubbing problem.

Cityofbrew
05-12-2008, 10:52 PM
Thanks for the info Razor. I think that I will order new bolts and give it shot. This install is definitely something I would do myself, but I was so excited to get the tires, that when the tire guy seemed concerned about clearance issues, I gave him the links and said here try these. Your right the nut does stick out more than the bolt head, but he move the the link inside instead of outside to gain a 1/2" or so. I also ordered the Eibach springs, but I'm in the Marcel deal, I think. I paid right away, but I don't know if I'm in the first or second group. I think this will clear the bolt head, but will force me to modify the plastic wheel well.

OldSchool
05-16-2008, 09:35 AM
On the way home, I noticed the rubbing as well (only on hard left turns).

Based on the Bwoody thread, I thought I was ok, since I still had the stock links, but apparently, the clearance is so tight, that the stock link bolt rubs with the Bridgestone HP Run Flats as well.

There seems to be a little confusion on which side rubs (maybe the Bwoody mounts different). But the stock swaybar/link setup has the links on the drivers side: inside the frame and on the passenger side: outside the frame (which is rubbing on left turns).

I pulled the tire off and dremeled the raised lips of the link bolt head. It probably wasn't much more than an 1/8 of an inch worth of clearance, but it seemed to remove the noise on left hand turns completely.

This weekend, I'll probably try to see if the link can be moved inside as well, or just order the low profile subframe bolt instead. This should give me at least another 1/8 inch of clearance.

Does anyone know of any side-effects of having the links moved to the inside? (making left and right side swaybar links on the inside of the frame)

Or, are there aftermarket sway-bars that mount on the inside for our Jeeps?

All in all, the new tires run 10x better than the Goodyears, grip is nice, noise is quieter. I'm not sure about the effect on speed/acceleration, but I do know these tires are a bit heavier, so this may affect 0-60 a bit.

OK, 28K on my original tires & the fronts are beginning to self-destruct, so its my turn to try the great tire roulette wheel. I apologize if I am being a bit dense here, but do I read this correctly that the Bridgestone Dueler Runflats in 315/35/20 rear and 275/40/20 front rub even on the stock setup? I am trying to decide between these and the Toyos or Michelin non-runflats, but I dont need to borrow trouble.

I dont think so, the 08 cup holder is one plastic peice that is part of the shifter console..in the 06&07 they were a seperate plastic part.
