: Guys With motorcycles Chime In Please!
Inferno SRT8 04-05-2008, 04:58 PM Ok guys well im looking to get a bike and are leaning towards the Suzuki GSX 750. My need to have my hair on fire @ 180 mph+ is getting the best of me.
What do you guys think?
Any help appreciated.
SkyeHighSRT8 04-05-2008, 05:04 PM I had a 2005 Buell CityX, just sold it a few months ago. I had some nice back roads to ride on and it was great. I noticed that everytime I rode my route, I would push it a little harder and harder. I got to the point were one day I realized, "I'm going to kill myself." So I sold it. It was a great bike. Top speed was only about 155 though. Maybe too slow for you. Handled the corners like a champ.
Buell "own the corners"
larryc7777 04-05-2008, 05:23 PM Couple of ?s first. What type of riding(other than top end) do you want to do? Thinking about any road trips? Dragstrip? Track days? 2 up? What's your riding experience?
Honestly evaluating your expectations will allow you to end up with the type of bike that will make your rides more enjoyable.
For instance, I'm hooked on speed & I know it. BUT, my poor old wrists can't handle the "crotch rocket" riding position. So, I built a fast bike that was more suited to my riding requirements.

larryc7777 04-05-2008, 06:04 PM Thanks guys. I've got some really good suggestions for Inferno if he'll say what he's looking for other than big speed.:)

Suzuki is nice...I'm a big fan of Yamaha. I just bought the YZF-R6. Awesome bike and it's so easy to drive...amazing how comfortable I was on this bike within a matter of days.

while I agree the R1 is the only way to go (I had a '99) that is not a bike for a "big guy". HAHA. i'm 6'3" and I was a little cramped up on that bike.
inferno how tall are you? under 6' I'd go witht he R1 or even the R6 all the way but if you're much taller then go with the busa or maybe even a ZX10.
kramsay1234 04-05-2008, 07:31 PM now your talkin...I am a Kawi fan, but to be really honest it comes down a lot to personal preference if you are looking at sport bikes. They are all good in their own way. If you want the speed go with a 1000, ZX10, or R1 would be on that list. The busa is another option as shown if its ballz out speed you want.
promo718 04-05-2008, 08:10 PM tony if you haven't ridden in a while (like over 5 years) i'd recommend not getting anything over a 500. ride that for the season then sell it and upgrade.
if you have recent riding experience i guess it's your call.. but in my opinion anything over a 600 in nyc is kinda overkill. plus, the relatively smaller width of the bike is an advantage when splitting the tiny lanes we have here.

Love the rims, Love the color:cool:
2BADGN 04-05-2008, 08:53 PM I agree. Nice Bike. What kind of upgrades do you have done to it?
larryc7777 04-05-2008, 09:00 PM That's why I was hoping to get a little more input from Tony.
For track days, drag strip, & sport street riding, the new mid-size sport bikes are more than adequate. If you want all-out *****, then you go with a ZX10, R1, Busa, ZX14, or something like that. If you plan on doing any 2 up road trips, then go with something like a ZZR14, Yamaha FJR, or one of the other sport tourers....still able to push that 180 mark. For that "one-of-a-kind" in your face bike, look into the Suzuki BKing or the new, hopefully soon to be released, Yamaha Vmax. Hell, even the latest crop of Vtwin cruisers from Suzuki, Yamaha, and others crank out 100HP & 100+TQ.
OR You could go with the ultimate HP excessive motorcycle on the planet...The Boss Hog with a 502 BB Chevy & automatic tranny.
blackjeepsrt8 04-05-2008, 09:14 PM Scorpion exhaust, power commander and a lot of chrome on it but I love the way it looks hard to keep it clean but is a head turner. lol and thanks for the comments
jwatson75@alltel.net 04-05-2008, 09:19 PM I had an 07 Kawasaki ZZR600. Traded that in on an 07 Honda 600RR. I just don't think you can go wrong with the RR. It looks awesome. Handles like it knows where you wanna go before you do! Already sold he RR and my next bike will be an R6. Just my .02!
SRTYA 04-05-2008, 09:48 PM I have always had Honda CBR's as well. If you want a bad azz bike that is scary fast and still killer on the curves I would go CBR1000RR. If you are looking for straight line all out insanity you can't beat the Suzuki Hayabusa. Some 17 year old kid on Pass Time ran a 9.23 on a stock Hayabusa last week.
Mango 04-05-2008, 10:39 PM How are the BMW motorcycles? I've always loved going to the showroom to admire the engineering in them, but I've never rode on a motorcycle before. They scare me :(

DAMN, that's really quick for stock.
The turbo'd Busas run high 7s to low 8s WITHOUT wheelie bars & on DOT rubber.
Street WK 04-06-2008, 05:28 AM I wouldn't get anything bigger than a 600cc for a starter bike and even thats pushing it.

Ducati FTW! Just sold my '05 999R last year :(:(, but it was by far the best/funnest bike I have owned. The only downside was that I couldn't ride 1 up.
Has your dad been data logging at all with the 1098's removable HD?
INFERNO- Like many other people have said, choose the bike that best suits where and how you want to ride.
Other questions to take into consideration
How much do you want to spend?
Are you buying new?
What is your level of experience?
How long do you plan on keeping it for?
What is your age/driving record? (Insurance)
Will you be riding with a passenger on the back?
How tall/heavy are you?
Are you going to mod the $*** out of it!?!
monstersrt 04-06-2008, 03:37 PM You guys are glossing over the OBVIOUS here.
I'm a sportbike rider, dieehard. I rode them all and owned most of them.
I have a 2006 Honda 1000RR, hands down a bollistic missle.
I love my Jeep but that bike is F&*@G fast. Most bang for you buck!!!

Its been over 5 years but Im going to get back on my buddys 4 wheeler and get accustomed to gears etc again before I venture back onto a sporst bike right away.
That's why I was hoping to get a little more input from Tony.

larryc7777 04-06-2008, 04:17 PM Tony, I respect the opinions of those who recommend getting a mid-size bike for a "starter" to get back into the feel of riding. But, if you are sure about your desire for ultimate straight line performance AND more than acceptable twisty performance, you might as well pull the trigger on one of the full size sport bikes. My personal choice would be either a new ZX14 or a new Busa. Both have a slightly more "relaxed" riding position when compared to the GSXR, ZX10 or R1. They will meet your requirements easily & do it with a little more comfort.
I'm sure you realize this but I'll repeat it anyway. TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN THE BIKE. You've probably reached the age where your intelligence can control your testosterone, hopefully. Otherwise, these bikes will chew you up & spit you out. The straight line performance of any one of these missles is equivelant to what I was running with my 1425cc, 10" car tire, 72" chassis drag bike 14 years ago when I gave up the race scene(at my wife's request). :(

sy1616 04-06-2008, 06:06 PM liter bikes these days are nearly as light as 600s from 5-10 years ago. I had a cbr600f4i but dropped it on a curves on a cooler January day, broke my collar bone in two spots and sold it. too fast for me. Like they say, it's a matter of when you crash not if.
promo718 04-06-2008, 06:19 PM ... it's a matter of when you crash not if.
big +1 on this, been there done that.. and all the gear in the world won't save ya if someone pulls out in front of you, or you go sliding across lanes of traffic after lowsiding.. it's always the guy on the bike who pays for the mistakes of others.

Given those responses (we have the same build as well) I would recommend the Busa. Preferably an '08 :D The 1300GSXR has great straight line power, handles the twisties well for a big bike, and you can cruise with broads on the back one night then switch the pass. seat with a paint match high tail the next. Plus you can mod them to the moon!
mr8srt 04-07-2008, 12:22 AM If you want one of the Best! Go with Yamaha 08 R1 (multi-plate slipper clutch,fly-by-wire throttle system,first electronic variable-length intake v stack..ECt And you can't beat the looks!!:rocker:
championjeep 04-10-2008, 12:55 PM If you get any kind of Honda you have to buy from southernpowersports.com. they are located in Tennessee and have by far the cheapest prices in the country.
If not you gotta get a Gixxer:D
L8BRAKR 04-10-2008, 01:47 PM I had a couple CBR's back in the mid 90's when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and used to run them at Willow Springs during the track days for fun. I had to give them up when I moved back to VA and be a more responsible family man for the time being. Now that I'm a big kid I have been toying with something more comfortable but I'm still trying to get the buy in from the wife and have been looking at this...
