I want tp get a Viper remote start but apparently my audio shop can't find any specs to bypass the existing starter and trick it into thinking that there is a key in the ignition. Has anyone been able to do it yet?

There's a bunch of products that will bypass the immobilizer. Even DEI (the parent company of Viper) has at least one model which works with the new sentry keys. If they really couldn't find this product I'd be a cautious of them, sounds a little sketchy.

Doesn't the Jeep one work O.K? Is it personal preference?
I'm just asking because I ordered the Jeep remote start option for mine.

Thanks

The dealer offered me a factory remote start that utilizes the existing Jeep key fob.

The factory remote start does utilize the existing Jeep key fob for lock/unlock but it comes with a new remote that only starts the car... thats the problem, you need to carry around both remotes.

By the way, the part number for the new DEI immobilizer bypass is 556CW.

Salesmen will tell you anything in order to make a sale.

If you still don't believe me, look around on the net and you can find a decent picture of the remote control where you can see it has one big button in the middle and clearly no lock or unlock buttons.

On the other hand, it is possible to add a aftermarket remote start system that is triggered by the factory keyless entry system. Are you sure he's describing the Mopar system?

I have the Mopar remote starter. It works as advertised, it doesn't defeat the security system that shuts down the engine when you use a key that has not been programed. It has a long range, you can turn the car on from a significant distance or through walls and doors. It has security features to avoid turning the car on by accident or keep it running for too long. The kit came with 2 remotes, but they are small, so you have the key and a remote that is smaller than the key.

FWIW - The range on the Mopar Remote start is equivelant of the aftermarket units, because it IS an aftermarket unit. It is made by CodeSystems Inc. (CodeAlarm)

Thanks for all the great info.
I think I will stick with the Jeep Remote Starter. I would only use it to start it up on cold winter mornings at home before work.

I appreciate you looking out. I have used this shop for over 10 years now they were just curious because they don't have any electronic specs on the car yet. I am looking to get the Viper remote start with backup battery and Police Siren and glass protection and I wanted to make sure it was all wired properly.

My salesman insists that they offer a remote start that works with just the factory Jeep key fob.

I will have him show me one on another vehicle to verify.

If you want an aftermarket alarm/remote starter, you can get the CHALL from Directed, it will bypass the factory without losing a key.
However, as it has been said, the 2010 has a remote starter from the factory

i have looked into this and at the end came out with few conclusions.
1) MOPAR kit does have an extra fob with one button to start the car, and i heard the kit doesnt come with the bypass module, so that needs to be purchased seperatly. IMO not worth it becasue in the end you will pay just as much as you would for a nice Viper Kit
2) there is guy that sells a kit where you can use the OEM current key fob even if it does not have the start button (press Lock twice then it starts), all you need to do is tap into three wires in which there is instructions...best options IMO..cheap, simple, clean set up
3) last but not least is to get and aftermarket unit such as Viper and have it installed. yes it is possible, and yes there is modules built to bypass security. If the guys dont know how to do it, i say stay as far away as possible because any professional installer should know this.

I dont care much for an alarm so all i care about is the remote starter
