: rumbling noise from rear bilstein shocks
justyli 10-06-2006, 10:37 AM I got my SRT8 2 weeks ago.
And from the first minute, I had a irritating rumbling noise from rear end. It sounds like a clattering tailgate.
The dealer said it must be 2 bad rear bilstein shocks.
I'm really angry about that. A car which cost here more than 80K$ comes with bad rear shocks.
And the really silly thing is, the dealer told me I have to wait another 3 weeks from now to get new ones.
Trying to find a faster way for new shocks I called Billstein in germany. But no way again. They told me their shocks were build in mexico not in germany. And I should call magna steyr in Graz/Austria, where the WH export model is manufactured.
Has anybody of you the same rumbling noise from rear end and was told the shocks are defect?
jlandbl 10-06-2006, 11:48 AM The odds of 2 bad shocks doesn't sound possible to me. 1 maybe. But 2? I would get a 2nd Dr.'s opinion.
justyli 10-12-2006, 11:09 AM I've been told by the dealer, he should receive the new Bilsteins for the rear end untill monday.
And a rubber mounting for the suspension strut.
Hope this will fix it.
justyli 10-16-2006, 11:06 AM We got the new billsteins today.
Unfortunately the rumbling noise is still there.
The dealer said, he wouldn't know what he could do more.
For testing he took the normal wk rear shocks to my car and the rumbling sound was gone.
But after changing again with the billsteins it's still rumbling from the back.
What could be the problem?
Sounds like something is loose back there. When the less firm wk shocks were installed, the noise went away. Try a different shock. Or check to see that maybe a heat shield or something else isn't loose. Keep us updated.

No, unfortunately not.
I got the third pair of rear bilstein today. They were special tested by Chrysler/Jeep of germany.
And what could I say, the problem is not gone. But the rumbling noise is much more quieter. And I could live with that now.
The dealer will try again to fix the problem completely up.

Buddy that's going to be one of those bugs that you just can't get to go away, and even when you do fix it, that noise is still going to be sticking in your head every time you drive your Jeep. Good Luck tho. I hate when things aren't right. Keep us posted. JMHO.
Juggernaught 01-05-2007, 08:31 AM I now have an intermittent problem with a clunck from the rear of my '06 Jeep GC SRT8. It sounds like a loose tailgate just like you described. When I pushed up and down on the rear bumper, I could hear a "squish" and "clunk" sound from the driver's side rear shock. I made an appointment with the dealer to have this looked at. However, when I drove the thing to work today, the "clunk" is gone! I am still going to have the dealer check the shock mounting bolts. Any other suggestions on what might be the trouble?
oman srt8 01-08-2007, 07:38 AM hi.
i have as same this problem in my 07 GC bout this problem sometimes coming in my car when i press the break so it is from the break or some thing is loss
if any one has any reply plz said to me....
dbrisson 01-08-2007, 06:47 PM I have and 07 thats does the same thing. I also have bilsteins on an older Porsche 911 that sound exactly the same. It may just be a bilstein thing. When you bounce the front on the porcshe you can hear the same noise I get from the back of the SRT
maxxjeep 01-09-2007, 01:28 PM I've had mine for a couple weeks now, and I am having the same issue. Sounds like something is loos in the back.
Is there any other explaination other than the shocks?
On another note...My breaks have been squeeking from day one, i figured it was just becasue they're new, but they are still doing it. Dang it. Should I take this beast in?
justyli 01-17-2007, 11:55 AM My car has been in fifth time the last days, because of this.
DCX send two engineers from headquarter germany to fix this problem.
After another two days working they told me, it's not a problem with the bilsteins, but unfortunately they are unable to fix it.
The only way DCX germany could do would be offering reduction in value to me or change my car with an brandnew build SRT8.
Im not sure what I should do. The SRT8 is my 3rd WK (WH export model) within 16 months and they all had some bigger probs.
