: Run in with the Law
squigmang 03-24-2008, 09:39 AM So im just sitting here making up some decals and a RCMP (royal canadian mounted police) officer drive up to my house, pulls in my driveway in an unmarked car and knocks on my door..
So I start worrying about waht i may have done,, couldnt think of anything..
He came to my house to tell me to take my tint off the front windows and take off my tinted licence plate. Im pissed right about now.. I started talking to him a bit, asked how long i could have to get it off etc. Turns out he was pretty cool about it, he is going on vacation next week and gave me untill the end of april to take it off. By that time Ill be done university and out of town! he took my plate number but im hoping they wont follow up on it..
No ticket, just a warning... so it could have been worse!!

I don't know the laws up there. However, I have to question his authority to enforce laws on private property. I know that you can't do that here.
DevssrT 03-24-2008, 09:51 AM I know in New York, my buddy had his windshield and front tints on his durango, and if he was parked on the street in front of his house, cops would give him tickets for it on the regular. As for myself, I got pulled over for front tints once, as well as cell phone and cracked windshield, and I had a receipt for the cracked windshield as well as the cell phone but I kept the tints on...he asked if I removed the tints I said yes and everything was dropped....it would have been a 75 dollar fine for the tints....
1BAMFR 03-24-2008, 10:01 AM I wouldn't have answered the door and just peaked thru the blinds till he left, Unless it was Jeff (2BADGN), I would have thrown his ticket book in the toilet and cracked some cold ones.
squigmang 03-24-2008, 10:13 AM hahaha he could see me though i had to answer the door..
he just gave a warning and no ticket so i didnt put up a fuss.. he admitted it was the first time he ever went up to a house for something like that...I thought it was a little weird, although i'd rather that than get pulled over actually.
DRE1615 03-24-2008, 10:18 AM Your driveway is actually still considered public property. If you run from the cops, (by run I mean keep driving and just don't pull over, not OJ Simpson run) and just park in your driveway they can still ticket you. At least it was a warning though.
shorestyle031 03-24-2008, 10:54 AM probualy the most ahole cop i ever heard of
HoustonSRT-8 03-24-2008, 11:09 AM probualy the most ahole cop i ever heard of
Agreed. Knocking on your door to tell you that? He really didn't have anything better to do.
DRE1615 03-24-2008, 11:30 AM Funny story... I was vacationing last summer in Scottsdale, AZ. Down there pretty much all the major highways are controlled by the cameras that send your speeding tickets to you in the mail. This leaves the local policemen with little to do b/c the streets are controlled. So I was out to dinner with some friends and the cops walk into the restaurant. They noticed we had alcoholic beverages at our table so they walk up to us and ask for our ID's. We were all from out of town and were surprised but followed along. Then they started drilling us on our ID's and our info. Asking for our social security #'s and just being *******s. This was all after we were previously Id'd by the restaurant staff. Guess they don't have much to do in AZ for cops. Bummer
nlgrav182 03-24-2008, 11:49 AM I would think that if you were parked in your driveway and the front wasn't visible from the street, they couldn't do much.
Mango 03-24-2008, 12:01 PM In NJ it's illegal for a Police Officer to do that. Only if he/she has probable cause (and the offense is enough to warrent that) can they do that.
HoustonSRT-8 03-24-2008, 12:30 PM Asking for our social security #'s
Are they allowed to ask for those? How can they check the validity of them?
Betray 03-24-2008, 01:04 PM wtf??? ok whats up with these cops recently.
the other day i was at timmies just pulled in for under 20mins to see a friend and grab a coffee... he asks for drivers license and comes back with a 65 loitering ticket.
i had to punk him off, and i did.. he just took it the insults and walked off.. no beatings or nothing!
AGray34 03-24-2008, 03:18 PM I have had tinted windows on all my vehicles (including windshield) and never once had a cop mention it to me. I also am in a large city where there is more crime to worry about. Surprised they bother some of you in NYC about something so little and causing no harm
squigmang 03-24-2008, 03:20 PM Ive had the tint on for over a year.. and im in a very small university town.. mabey 5000 people.. he had to of noticed me around. i drive by the cop shop at least 4 times a day...
must have been bored..
Tell that ****ing facist piece of garbage that you'll run out of money before he runs out of tickets.
SRT-MANA 03-24-2008, 11:32 PM in hawaii i think only FBI,UC & TU are allowed to have dark tinted window's..some have 35% up front on their windsheild...we cant have less than 35% on our front driver & passenger window's but as long as we have both rear view mirror's we can go 5% on the rest of the window's however the front windsheild 5% can't go below the asi line....still kinda funny tho,how can they up hold the law when they are breaking it also?????at least you got off!
aloha,norm
Street WK 03-24-2008, 11:49 PM That sucks. 1 - That would never happen down here. 2 - I would never do that to anyone.

dude, isn't that harassment?
chgometro 03-25-2008, 01:30 AM Thats sucks.......not sure of the laws up there, but down here police officers cannot walk onto private property to enforce vehicle infractions.....unless in a comission of a crime (ex. high speed pursuit). Thats like walking onto someones property to enforce a city sticker violation....CANNOT DO IT!
Keep it on and next time politely tell him that you do not pose as a threat to law enforcement, the tint is on your window for your safety. If he writes you then he's a complete jag......I would never write that unless the driver was a doschebag.
JJJ93z 03-25-2008, 08:22 AM I would have gave him the classic "beat it nerd!"

Exactly! Guns, in the hands of honest people, keep it safe.
Now, in New York, where no honest civilians carry guns, is it safe?

until December of last year and god willing after December of this year, I lived in Florida. I have a carry permit which not only lets me carry a conceiled handgun but also lets me walk into any gun store, pick out a gun and walk out with it that day. Otherwise you need to wait 5 business days to get your gun. Florida also has a "right to shoot" law which means if I feel threatened I do not have to try to run away first like most states require. you come walking towards me with a bat, a crow bar, anything, and I can shoot you right there. :D
wicked_police 03-25-2008, 04:46 PM squig, where you from?
I worked in BC, Alberta, and now in Ottawa. And I'm usually the one with no front plate, too much tint, etc... :D
Not defending him, but he might have had a complaint from someone, or was just in a pissed off mood......

Im from nova scotia..
I dont think he was in a bad mood at all, thats what got me. He came up and was saying he couldnt see my licence plate either with the tinted cover (although it was not visible because of the road grime, not the cover) he said it looked better with the tint and everything, he even noticed my Callaways and started chatting about golf and stuff. it was a beautiful sunny afternoon, i cant wrap my head around it,, he asked my name a couple times, but never asked for id. mabey he was just curious to see who owned it?

I'm glad the gun laws in N.Y. are strict because there are some crazy people in this world.I know you seen it before,"honest civilian" enters a gun store, buys a firearm and some ammo then goes on a killing spree.:(If the law permits you to carry a gun in yur area,by all means get one but PLEASE be safe.

chgometro 03-25-2008, 09:42 PM How could it be for my safety though??
The tint could keep the glass in place when shattered, rather than blowing all over the place in an accident or something. I have kids, so I always say that I don't people seeing if my family is in the car, so it's really for their safety. Be creative......Again, I wouldn't write a ticket for tinted windows.....Good Luck!
MYSRT8EM 03-26-2008, 07:16 PM So my wife was driving home from work today and a State Trooper pulls her over and tells her he thinks she was following to close while passing another car behind while following another person. Which was BS the car in front of her saw the Smokie before her and slowed down which made it look like she was to close but he didnt site her for that instead he grabs his tint meter and bags hewr for too dark of tint. WTF do these guys have nothing better to do?? I had those windows tinted because she drives alone and once she was followed and some sicko MOFO tried to get in her dressing room while she was trying some clothes on and was not caught by our wonderful law enforcement . My fear was the sicko could have folowed her home aswell so I tiinted her windows so sicko MOFOs cannot see her in the vehicle which means less chance of her being raped or killed . Where the F&^% are our rights?? Law enforcement has the right to prevent us from our safety to preserve theres??

Idaho State I think that He was just looking for his monthly Quota and saw an opportunity to F*&^ with someone He was driving a Charger Patrol car Idaho has Charger interceptors so he wanted to check out the GCSRT
chgometro 03-26-2008, 10:03 PM you should go to court and explain that same thing to the judge.....that is exactly my point about safety issue....if the sicko can't see in then he doesn't know if she's alone or not. Good Point!
Well, this guy I met thru a friend there was carrying legally and believe me he was not yur model citizen. If he had a gun, what does that tell you??
That he wants to protect himself and his family. When I'm in AZ or NM, I carry open. A gun on your side keeps EVERYONE very polite and civil.

I have not bought a gun here in PA, but in florida they do a background check when you buy a gun. all they do is call someone so I assume they just check to be sure you don't have any warrants or that sort of thing. now you can be the dirtiest bastard in the country but if you don't have an arrests then "they" consider you a good citizen. Now when I got my permit to carry it was sent to the Florida department of agriculture (don't ask me why it went there) and they said it would take up to 90 days. Full background check, probably FBI backgorund, fingerprinted... And I got my permit in 45 days.
now if I did have an arrest or warrant i'm sure I could go out on the street and buy a revolver for $100 illegally too.
oh, and as far as the safe part goes...really all I use my guns for is making holes in paper and hunting deer when I have time off from work during hunting season.
