: Torn between two rubbers.
moparman505 03-19-2008, 02:43 PM Sounds like a good start to an old song that title! Wellllllll.......I keep having this recurring nightmare. I'm driving down a dark single lane highway enjoying the Jeep as the miles click along. I see a flash in my headlights and move over quickly to avoid the object on the road, too late. A large broken portion of an old whiskey bottle bites hard into my Toyo Proxes. The slash is huge and the air quickly leaves my front tire. Not panicking I ease on the brakes and slowly bring my truck to a stop. I get out, with my flashlight and wander around the front of the Jeep to check the tire damage. The tire is torn to shreds but my heart drops as I flash the light more on the rim. Aluminum mush. Rolled over and in some spots separating from the rest , my SRT rim is trashed!!! $1200 down the tube. So with all the things our Goodyear run flats are stiff, harsh etc. ...they will save your rim. I'm staying with my Goodyears.
MatFab 03-19-2008, 02:45 PM well that is one reason.. but the performance increase, ride and handling is enough for most to change..

the way i see it, if it is a daily driver and you put on a lot of miles in a week of driving then the goodyears are good to have for assurance, but when it comes to other conditions such as winter driving and track driving the goodyars are garbage...my suggestion, buy three sets of treads. i have some pirelli scorpions for winter, nitto's for spring/summer (track), and still have the two rear run flats just in case. lol
Rick G 03-19-2008, 02:54 PM And if your wife/girlfriend decides to drag the wheels along 10 feet of curb you will also have a trashed rim no matter what tires you have. :p

and you would let them drive the ride because???? hell you let your wife/girlfriends borrow anything and you're taking a big chance. lol
...what are we talking about girlfriends and torn rubbers for anyway....scary. lol

Just trashed one of my run-flats (side-wall blowout) and bent the rim on a pot-hole. No rim protection for me. Since the tread was 75% gone, decided to replace all 4 with Toyo Proxes S/T. All the talk about a smooth ride is correct!. Better grip in 35 degree rain. Finally got rid of the high speed shimmy that road force balancing didn't solve with the Goodyears as well. This is the second side-wall failure I've had with these Goodyears over the past 2 years. No regrets.
HOJeepster 03-19-2008, 04:08 PM i prefer Magnums...more comfort haha
Rubber? Huh? You guys use those things with girlfriends?? Wow, I must have missed the boat ;)
Rick G 03-19-2008, 04:46 PM and you would let them drive the ride because????
Because, she doesn't like walking everywhere........its her daily driver and my weekend toy. :p

Just your girlfriend.
MNBob 03-19-2008, 07:32 PM Back to topic; I have only 14,000 miles and the tread is holding up good on the run flats. However, when they go, I am definitely going to go with the Toyos. In the unlikely event that I lose a rim, I will just get it replaced. And if I get a flat, I will use one of the options above or the phone.
pjvreede, did you get the stock size?

why not just get the rim protection and have the best of both worlds (no nightmares)? thats what I plan on doing...some day.
SRT8Girl12 03-20-2008, 02:06 PM Why don't you guys comes over to our neck of the woods and I will show you how a girl can drive :badrazz:

Bob: Went with the 265/295 option. Sidewall is "thicker" than stock, as is apparent on some of the pics posted by others (not a big deal for me). It's a huge improvement from the run-flats.

nice, lol.
