: Nosing and Decking
K Hamlet 03-22-2006, 08:34 AM If anyone is interested in removing the "Jeep" from the front and rear of their ride. It is pretty easy, on my car all I had to do was get a small screwdriver, fold cardboard over into 3 layers, use the cardboard for leverage and to protect the paint and pry them off. Mine popped off taking all adhesive with it. No holes, just clean smooth paint underneath. I already have had many people ask me what the hell I was driving, now the will be more confused. Of course I had to leave the SRT8 badge in place.
My Jeep is black, I really like the clean look without the lettering.
2MCHPSI 03-22-2006, 10:11 AM Wow. You have done exactly what I had planned on doing when I got mine. It's not a "don't want others to know what it is" thing for me, but I have always preferred the look of a smooth vehicle. I took the DODGE off my SRT-4 and left just the SRT-4 badge in place.
Got any pics of the debadgement? (I dont think thats a word, lol)

Here you go my man, "Debadgement" pics hot out of the digital camera.
2MCHPSI 03-22-2006, 11:08 AM Awesome. That looks incredible! I'm glad you did it first, this just re-assures me to do it when mine finally gets here.
Thanks K!
MegaSRT-8 03-22-2006, 01:15 PM A trick I got from a member on another forum was to use fishing string to slide under the letters. Very simple, and no chance of scratching.
I love it too, and definitely puts more mystery behind the truck.

The adhesive in this case is quite thin, no foam. Black material 1/32nd to 1/64th of an inch thick. The fishing line might be thicker than the adhesive. I believe the sooner you decide to remove the better, mine came off cleanly with little effort using the screwdiver cardboard method. These modern adhesives get stronger the longer they are in contact with the paint. If your hands are shakey try the fishing line, otherwise it does not get much easier than my way.
Clueless 03-22-2006, 03:00 PM I removed a bunch of decals through the years from different cars and the trick is to use heat. Apply heat to the emblem for a few minutes then just pry it off. For heat you can use your average hair dryer. The sticker the glue the more heat you need to apply. Be careful because some emblems have double sided tape underneath and that makes it more difficult to remove (use a lot of heat). Others are attached through a hole in the surface (like a BMW hood emblem).
BahnBlastR 03-23-2006, 01:19 PM Hair dryer and dental floss works like a champ! After that I take a small amount of scratch-out to remove any remaining adhesive and then a light coat of wax. Viola! You're done! The de-badged G35 Coupe that I drive is a sweet mystery machine here in Germany since they don't import that model here...
OIT2KU 03-23-2006, 07:42 PM The fishing string will definatly work the best especially if you warm up the logo with a heat gun first. I did it that way it was super easy and quick.
banginsrt8 03-24-2006, 06:40 PM debadged mine as well :) blowdryer an fishing line :)
love the Stealthy look
also left the SRT 8 badge
definately gets people asking what it is, just wish the side pieces didnt say grand cherokee

Your Jeep looks fantastic without the emblems! Of course, its hard for an SRT8 not to look good
bigwise1 04-24-2006, 03:46 PM K hamlet. I'm in Visalia and I noticed the Surroz plates on your SRT. Were you able to get it for sticker from them?

I got it for MSRP. They wanted an additional $5,000.00, but the I showed the the window sticker I downloaded from the internet for the exact GC I bought. It had nothing on it about a 5 grand premium, so I demanded they sell it to me as advertised and they did. I sent you an email about my 300C stereo install on the Chrysler forum, small world hey.
ALL badges came off of mine. The SRT badge looks nice, but I personally prefer the clean look, and to keep the uneducated guessing.

The uneductated typically don't care enough to find out what it is. That is why I left my SRT8 badge on. I like the clean look too, but to me it feels better knowing my $47K was spent for at LEAST that little badge. LOL!

The first thing you should have removed was the dealer plate surround.
Blah blah..... it'll come off when I get my permanent plates. I don't mind advertising for them for a couple of weeks. No skin off my back.

No skin off my back. You can't wait to take off the badges of the company that engineered & built the Jeep SRT8, but don't mind advertising for a dealer.....Alrighty then.
Apples and oranges my friend. I drive a Jeep right now because I like their product. I did not remove the badges to thumb my nose at them.... c'mon, you're kidding, right? The badges were removed simply because I like the clean look. Maybe I ought to check again, but I do think license plates are still required in the silly old state of Washington. If they aren't, I'll remove the license plate frames. Deal?
K Hamlet 04-28-2006, 11:42 AM Come on guys, your testosterone is showing.
We all have different likes and dislikes. Me I have always taken off every emblem, sticker, letter and even cleaned the door jams of stickers. No disrespect to the Manufacturer, I just like the clean look. I left the SRT8 badge on as a wink to those who know what it means, that I am in the club.
Alls good, I have yet to see an ugly SRT8.
True true.
My apologies ARH1956. We're all in this together :)
ARH1956 04-28-2006, 04:28 PM True true.
My apologies ARH1956. We're all in this together :)Hey no need for apologies. This is a forum for openly discussing & sharing ideas & opinions. I removed the Jeep badge from the front of mine before I drove it home. The hood on the GC is an absolute work of art with it's sensual curves & the integration of the eyebrows over the headlights & the "Jeep" badge looked like a huge garish wart to me. It's differing opinions that make these forums interesting. And I openly admit I have a freakish preoccupation with removing any dealer ID as my 1st priority when buying a vehicle. In fact when ordering one I require the sales manager to sign off on a promise that NO badge, sticker, tag etc. will be added to my vehicle prior to delivery. Why some people ask? Because it's my vehicle & I'm goofy about my stuff.
jms935 04-28-2006, 04:48 PM I can understand. I walked away from buying one because it already had the front plate holder on it. That to me destroys the look of the car more than anything. The salesman couldn't believe it. I am the exact same way with all the dealer badging, if I am going to advertise for them, they better be giving me free service and maintenance.

I had the same problem with my Black GC, but I removed the front plate holder and installed three of those specialized license plate screws with the smooth black caps. It is not perfect but passable. And I got to take my GC SRT8 home with me.

My mother constantly gets tickets for not having a front plate for her '03 Jaguar XK. You can't put a front plate on one of those without having it look... awful. I wouldn't want one on an SRT GC either (mmm, if only I could get one). And yeah, dealer badging is bad, luckily they never did that to my Laredo. They did it to my parent's XK's though, sadly. I would have complained myself... but... meh...

I dread the day they start enforcing this law in my area. I have five vehicles, none that have front plates. They're hideously ugly. We have started getting a few Redlight light camera money makers in the city. I imagine my days are numbers.
I will just enjoy it while it lasts.

jms935 04-29-2006, 12:01 AM I just keep mine off the city streets when parked. They normally only issue a ticket here in Chicago for a front plate violation when it is parked on the street, or stopped for another offense. They have never stopped anyone to my knowledge for just the front plate or lack thereof. Keeps my rides in better condition as well, since I can't park on the street.
K Hamlet.... I gotta ask, since I see you have a custom 150.... do you visit www.fordtruckworld.com at all? I'd love to see pics of it. I just got rid of my 04 bagged expedition on 24s, and dig seeing other baggers.
As for front license plates here.... yes, it is mandatory, but they dont' generally enforce it. However I did get stopped for it one time.

No I do not visit fordtruckworld, but here are a few photos. I hope the rest of the forum does not mind a Ford being displayed here. I do not have any interior shots but if you are really interested I could take some and email them to you.
.
Great looking truck! I'd love to see the interior. Here is a link to see my last one: http://www.fordtruckworld.com/ge2. You can navigate through the different albums I have set up to see the build.
To keep this Jeep related, have you got any interior, paint, or suspension mods planned for the GC? I do plan on redoing some of the interior. The dash and door panels aren't my favorite-- a little too much hard plastic, so I may have some work done in there.

On the Northshore you'll be ok, but they will get you in the city. My front plate holder is being painted to match my GC right now, so if I have to put it on it should look ok.
DRIHEAT 07-16-2006, 10:49 PM God I love Arizona... a NFP state.:D

I loved it too! Still kicking myself for moving back to Chicago. Great weather and some amazing roads for cruising (outside the city). I still carry my AZ license just to show people that it's good until 2033, they make us renew every 4 years here!
jms935 07-17-2006, 10:10 AM Registering in Illinois does stink. All my other rides are titled in Florida, so I don't have to deal with the emissions testing and no front plate.
zen garage 07-18-2006, 07:26 AM Last time I pulled into emissions here in Chicago all the guys laughed. It was in my 98 Viper gts with headers, no cats, borlas and 3 inch pipe out the ass. That car smelled and sounded like a Cigarette boat with staggered 502's.
It passed!
