: Ride Quality!
Behairy 10-02-2006, 07:16 PM Hello, I was just wondering how well does the beast ride compared to other super SUVs , is it really that stiff ? (I spent quite alot of time in my friend's X5 4.8is and I found the ride to be a bit stiff ... How does the SRT compare ?
Thanks for a wonderful forum really and keep up the good work , regards :)
Black_SRT8 10-02-2006, 07:29 PM It is sporty, but not extremely stiff. My friend has a late-model Lincoln LS, and he told me the SRT8 GC is the best ride he has experienced.

If you think a 4.8is is too stiff, then don't even bother with the Jeep SRT.
Granted, I found the Jeep to ride like my M3 so it really wasn't that shocking to me.

Picky question perhaps but does your M3 ride on 18s or 19s ? I heard they differ alot in ride quality ... Thanks :)
gculver 10-02-2006, 08:05 PM The X5 has a better ride, no doubt. But can not compare in the hold on Betsy I'am coming home department. Lots of torque. Stiff spring rates + run flats and 1/4 inch travel before rear supension hits the bump stops makes for a stout ride, much like a C5 with run-flats. I personally have removed 1/2inch from the rear bump stops and it helps. Next, get rid of the OEM tires. Hope this helps you.:)

Not picky at all, the car has the OEM forged 19s. :)
Agreed from above, once the Jeep runflats get replaced with normal tires I'm sure the ride quality would be better to an extent.
No different than my oldman's 550i sport, it has the piece of crap runflats that make the car seriously ride like ****. That car doesn't even have an M suspension and it rides like my M3 (if not slightly worse). Its a known issue and when people switch out the runflats.....the car rides great. Makes all the difference.
BahnBlastR 10-03-2006, 03:18 AM Communist, NY? Is there really such a place or is it because Hillary is in the mix? :)
Anyway, I have read several reviews of the GC SRT8 and some of the mamby-pamby writers complained about an overly stiff ride. I don't find the ride to be offensive at all. Is it stiff? Yes. Is it tolerable? Absolutely. Most folks forget that there is a trade-off when it comes to comfort vs. handling. Plus, the GC is a BIG rig. The thing defies logic when you combine the prodigious torque and relatively flat handling. I am surprised by this thing every time I drive it. The run-flats? Scary in the wet. (Like the Michelin Pilot sports on the G35 - Switching to Conti Sport Contact 2's is night and day!) Not having anything to compare them to on my SRT8 though makes it tough to discuss. I would like to drive another SRT8 with the Proxes or another "normal" sport tire.
TRAINER 10-03-2006, 04:03 AM I replaced my OEM tires with Toyo Proxy's and the ride quality is MUCH better.. And, they perform way better in the rain and look great - they fill out the wheel well and gives the SRT a completed look IMHO.
Behairy 10-03-2006, 05:22 AM Thank You Guys For Much Appreciated input ... This forum rocks :)
Dr.Steve 10-03-2006, 08:24 AM Not to hijack, but can you guys who have switched out the runflats for the proxes, etc. give me an idea of a fair price for those meats?
FireStRT8r 10-03-2006, 08:32 AM Also, which Proxes are you putting on the truck?
TRAINER 10-03-2006, 08:47 AM It's the Proxy ST and they're about $190 rear and $180 front, much less then OEM and they are already on my truck.

I guess that's what we're gonna do when the beast comes... We have also ordered and extra rim so runflats won't be essential I guess after all... Thanks for the input :)
I'm also riding on Proxes an love them. As for the suspension stiffness.... yeah, it's stiff, and the rear is pretty darn noticeable when you go over bumps, but this is not just an SUV, and knowing that it's built like a sports car, I think most buyers actually prefer the stiff ride.
jlandbl 10-03-2006, 11:58 AM Call this a silly question, but for those of you who moved away from run flats, what is the plan if you get a flat? I love the results you are seeing with the change and am very interested, but don't know if I can take the risk with the commute I have daily.

I'm not overly concerned with that. I live in the NYC area and help is just a phone call away. That's how much I hated those OEM tires! LOL
I've removed my spares from my last couple of vehicles anyway, so I am not worried about it. Help is always a call away. Last weekend, I did take a little road trip though, from Seattle, through some very rural areas, to Boise, ID and back. Knowing that finding a 265/35/22 or a 295/30/22 in case I blew one out, would be difficult, I brought one extra of each of those sizes in the back of the jeep.
