: I'm torn!
BLKltng 03-21-2006, 07:52 PM I simply just can't make up my mind wether I should sell my lightning or not to buy the srt gc. I just don't know if the jeep will be fast enough and have the same appeal that a slamed lightning on 20"s has. I know the jeep will be quick with some forced induction but don't know what the driveline can handle. I have my doubts that the tranny, transfer case, and rear can handle 500-550 whp for an extended lentgh of time. The aftermarket for the jeep will never be close to that of the lightning. Some input would be helpful.
Rboosted717 03-21-2006, 09:30 PM FYI: Hows2nd traded his mod'd lightening in for the Jeep and is thrilled with his decision. Send him a message for more info. I do know this from personal experience and also from How2nd's review, stock to stock, the Jeep kills the Lightening. I also believe he was hitting very low 12's in his Lightening before he sold it.

http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford--F150-Lightning-Drag-Racing.html?resultpage=2 over 13.2
Approx 20 owners hitting in the 13.0+ range in the Lightening (some stock, some with mod's, some are bad drivers!). Seeing that the Jeep hits 13.2 while still breaking in, shows that the Jeep being NA has a lot of potential to hit faster (as does the Lightening).
BLKltng 03-21-2006, 10:01 PM Thats good to know, however I'm in between putting my lightning in the high 10's to low 11's (currently low 12's) or buy a srt gc and the cost would be the same. I think I just need to wait until others find the limits of the jeep and the aftermarket expands more. I think whats holding me back is the jeep will always just look like a jeep, it looks good but its still just a jeep. LOL, I change my mind as often as I change my socks.
Rboosted717 03-21-2006, 10:23 PM Yeah I know what you mean. I'm use to racing my street drag car that makes over 850whp and will lay low 10's spinning every gear (even 5th). I am also use to road racing complete track prepaired cars, so going from that to a high 12, low 13sec SUV is a big difference. Everything feels like slow motion. HOWEVER, I will say this after driving fully mod'd Cayennes, X5's, Lightenings and tons of mod'd cars, I am amazed at this SRT8 beast. Honestly I love the feeling of a 6.1L HEMI with AWD and 420/420 specs w/ brembos. This truck is so fun to drive, that I actually want to race it in the next coming drag event rather then tow'ing my race car up w/ the 4.8is! hahaha
StageFright 03-22-2006, 05:24 PM The Lightning is ancient history.
Stock to stock the Jeep would beat a L, but the L has huge aftermarket support if you wanna throw money at it, and it is also out of production.
Beltfed 03-22-2006, 06:49 PM I think whats holding me back is the jeep will always just look like a jeep, it looks good but its still just a jeep.
And the Lightning looks just like what it is, a Ford pickup with big wheels/tires.
You talk like you're pimping an F430.
BLKltng 03-22-2006, 07:22 PM If your not into slammed hot rod trucks u just can't understand.

Well.......... I've had both, so I can honestly tell you without a doubt the Jeep SRT8 is a better vehicle (IMO of course). My L ran in the 12's and was definitely fun but it was still a two door truck that had a hard time hooking up unless you kept cheaters on ALL the time (not practical). The Jeep on the other hand is a full second faster (stock vs stock) and is a suv. I loved my L but if I had to choose I'd go with the Jeep. just my 2 cents
BLKltng 03-22-2006, 09:36 PM Thank you, now thats a helpful post. Its good to hear from someone who has had both. I don't know about a full sec faster, my L ran 13.31 bone stock. How do you compare the handaling of the two.

13.31... mine bone stock with 450 miles on her ran a 13.90 (that was removing the air filter). With a chip, mass air meter, and intake I ran 13.10 (my engine must have been built on a Friday). Handling is not a comparison the L handles like a big heavy truck and the jeep you can actually push into a sweeping turn with confidence (it handles more like a car than a truck just look at the differences on how many G’s they pull on the track). If you drove both you would immediately know what I’m talking about
BLKltng 03-23-2006, 09:23 AM The GC is looking better and better. I think I gotta go test drive one soon. Thanks again.
