I just got a call from my salesman letting me know my SRT was ready for me to come get it (all washed and full of gas). Then he started telling me what he found out about the trailer wiring (not much) and hitch installation (zip). He then says that if I bring it in for service with a hitch installed on the vehicle, the service department will void my warranty. WTF!!!!! I think someone needs a baseball bat upside the head! I then reminded him that towing ability was one criteria that had to be met for me to purchase the vehicle, and that if the warranty will be voided by installing a hitch, I don't want it. He just said to call him if I had any problems (he won't be there when I pick it up), and there is a 1 (800) number in the Owner's Manual I can call if I have more questions. When I get there tonight, they will have to assure me that I can tow with it, or I won't buy it. Jerk-weeds!!!!!

thats a bunch of bull****, according to the magnusson moss warranty act which your service manager should be very well aware of, a dealership or manufacturer can't void a warranty simply because of the existence of an aftermarket part

what they can do is not honor warranty work on the part of the vehicle that was modified (and the part that it affected) but ONLY IF they can prove that the part caused said problem

read up on it and explain that to him again. dealerships try to jerk people around all the time on this stuff. have any lawyer friends? a call or letter on their stationary would probably make any situation like that right immediately.

How can you tow anything without a hitch? I'll be getting mine installed soon, and I'm not at all concerned about warranty issues because of a hitch.

Ask them to define towing capacity and define towing to you.

Welcome to the world of SRT... This has been happening with just about every SRT vehicle at the dealerships. They are always looking for a reason to mess with your warranty or more accurately- put a restriction on it. As much as I want to buy an SRT8 Jeep when I move I may not ever buy a DCX vehicle again because of this type of treatment.

I'm sure that he would have an extremely difficult time voiding the warranty because the GC is FACTORY RATED with a 3500 lb towing capacity. The brand/type of hitch that you use has absolutely nothing to do with this rating(as long as the hitch is correctly matched to the rating). You could use DrawTite, Reese, or any of the other makes available. There are some available now, but they require modification to the center exhaust area.

What he's implying is that he could void your warranty if you used a Fram oil filter instead of the Mopar filter. Utterly ridiculous.

Well, when I went in to pick it up, I got the Fleet Sales Director to assure me (in front of my attorney) That in no way woould the vehicles warranty be affected by installing a trailer hitch. He said that if it were an aftremarket (non-MOPAR) custom install, and somthing were to happen to the hitch or structure it was attached to, then they would not warranty those peices. I said, well DUH!!!

As I was cleaning it up this morning, I noticed where they had tried to compound out a scratch on the right front fender. The scratch is still there, and now it has a wad of swirl marks over an area the size of a softball. My wife says I should just take care of it myself, seeing as how I can't expect anyone to be as exacting as I am when it comes to working on things. I guess she's right; 25+ years in aviation maintenance has made me a very picky S.O.B.!!!!

Otherwise, Woohoo!!! I can hardly wait to have this thing properly run-in!!!

Would someone explain the process of warranty work to me? I can't wrap my head around why some dealerships seem eager to void warranty work when it seems they should be eager to do the most warranty work they can.

The dealership is reimbursed (likely with little oversight id imagine) for warranty work by DCX in full right? If so it seems everyone but DCX wins. Dealer gets work. Customer gets service done for free. What am I missing?

I don't know but it seems to be a constant problem with DCX and definately with any of the SRT vehicles. They have been restricting warranties left and right for just about anything- including any Mopar Performance Parts (including exhausts, intakes...whatever).
