: Manual shifting Rev limit normal??
Another good NEWBY question for everyone,
When I put my 06 GCSRT8 into manual shift mode it will not shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and so on without me hitting the shifter. Basically it will rev limit itself if I do not shift to prevent damaging the engine. To me this seemed normal and exactly what putting it into Manual shift mode would/should do but after talking to another forum member I was told that when he puts his GC into manual shift and it shows [1] on the display for the gear that he can stomp on the gas and his GC actually shifts for him showing [2], [3], [4] and so on without him touching the shifter but he still gets the shifting bennefit of the Manual shift mode over the normal true automatic mode but he never does an of the shifting on his own and his engine wont rev limit itself...it'll just shift up through the gears on its own. To me this seems like its still in true auto mode but what do I know. I havent done anything to my GC yet but I do have a Predator on the way...he on the other hand has a Predator and quite a bit of mods. Is this something normal on my GC or abnormal on his GC, difference in yr 06 vs 07 or something that the Predator may have done to his GC on its own? Sorry guys, you most must think im an idiot but I'm just going off of what my GC does compared to what he says his does. Anyone know anything about this...is it a program flash that can be done or what? Thanks for the time and patience.lol
Betray 03-03-2008, 08:54 PM i got a 08 and i think mine does the same actually.
if i hold it to the right it locks back into D
OurZoo 03-03-2008, 09:07 PM There's a flash that'll fix that. I'd take it into a dealer and see what TSBs apply to your VIN.
Inferno SRT8 03-03-2008, 09:10 PM What Andrew said there is a flash that will update the software in your TCM.
Darkm89 03-03-2008, 09:43 PM isnt that what "manual mode" is for? i thought this was how it works...
you put the car into drive
you smack the shifter to the left so that [1] appears on the dash
you hit the gas, and whenever you feel good and ready, you smack the shifter to the right to upshift...and the same thing when you feel like it again
or you can smack the shifter to the left to downshift and get a boost of power.
isnt that how it works? or am i just missing something here?
larryc7777 03-03-2008, 09:47 PM That's true about the TCM flash update. It will make it so that your tranny will shift by itself.....even in manual mode. Unfortuanately, it also lowers the RPM that it shifts from 1 - 2. Mine used to shift at 6100 before the flash. Now it shifts at 5800. I believe that Mother Mopar did this because the tranny had a difficult time making the 1 - 2 shift in Auto mode without hitting the rev limiter. Numerous people had complained because it felt like a severe hesitation when it did that. Not everyone wanted to lose the ability to hold the gear till the rev limiter hit but that decision was taken away with that TCM flash. Also, once the flash is done, it can't be reversed.

X2 Don't loose that ability once it's flashed over you can't go back, IMHO that is way better than the "Auto Upshift"

I would NEVER get the flash....thank goodness I bought an additional TCM for the flash.
I quickly changed back to the original TCM

Blown-WK 03-03-2008, 11:54 PM Just curious why you dont like it (Jeff and Bill)? I think its one of the best things I did to mine. No more bumping the fuel shutoff if I'm a little late on the upshift and it still downshifts and holds any gear just like before. The shift rpm is the only difference and really how much of an advantage can that be when the hp starts to fall off at 5800 anyways?

The B&G Stage II solved the hesitation problem by raising the rev. limit.
MUCH better solution than lowering the shift point.
Horsepower begins to fall off at 5800 due to the tranny nanny shutting off the injectors (and fuel pump)and retarding the timing to keep the torque BELOW the magic 580 Nm.
Soon those issues will be resolved along with the transmission.;)

So whats everyones consensus on doing the flash to make it shift on its own; I dont want to lose any HP or speed and if thats what'll happen if it shifts at 5800 instead of 6100 then I don't see why people would want it. Guess it comes to personal preference so
1. If I were to do the flash do I need to undo my Preditor program and put it back to factory programming first or will it be ok to leave it alone and just le them do it?
2. Yes or No's on whether getting this flash will be beneficial in HP and speed or is it something that wont have that great of an effect?
Thanks again guys!
402vette 03-29-2008, 12:20 AM Anyone got anymore info on this, just picked up an 06 and I thought it had something wrong with it, but I feel a lot better now. Should I get it flashed or not or just go buy a predator?
SlickBrick 03-29-2008, 08:53 AM I have a 07 and it used to hold w/o shifting while in manual - Asked the dealer to never flash my pcm w/o consent. Well I had it in for a TC issue and now it shifts by itself, THX - I dont think it was a bad thing as it did correct the frequent hitting of the rev lim while in auto and it seems to shift @ around 6-6100. I did occasionally not remember I was in maual while at a light with the tunes going only to realize oh shi*...
moparman505 03-01-2009, 11:52 AM Friend of mine has a '06 300 SRT8, although I have not tried it on mine, he puts his into manual-1st gear and floors it. The car hits redline and shifts through all gears on redline with the shifter never touched again. Good move by Mother Mopar as many people would have blown up their 6.1's, had that not been programmed in!
AFSurg Junky 03-01-2009, 05:11 PM Just purchased the 2008 GC SRT8. Will I need to ask the dealership to take care of this matter if I want the automatic manual shifting to take place ?
DevssrT 03-01-2009, 05:16 PM There is a flash to correct this...the real thing is if you like shifting it on your own, or would rather the computer do it...thats up to you though!

Yeah but it shouldn't let you go past redline or fuel cutoff.
Escape 03-01-2009, 07:55 PM The Autostick...is more of a manual top gear selector! Kinda/Sorta
Without Flash: Meaning that if you have it in [1] then you can only use first until you manualy shift it into [2], then [3], then [4]. Now if left in [4] then it will act like an automatic and downshift and upshift up to 4th gear. If left in [2] then it will downshift and upshift up to 2nd gear and so on. Whatever is the top gear displayed it the farthest it's going to shift into...atleast on mine!
I have no clue about this reflash to fix it....I like mine how it is now.
